Everytime I feel low, I watch this interview. Of all the criticism that he has had over the years, he has withstood it with a sense of swag. To be able to be this candid, and be proud of oneself at the same time, surely is a sign of life greatly lived. Indian cricket will forever remember him. The man, the charisma and of course the ability to take up challenges. (Right on the chin).

completely agree with you and even i do watch it whenever i feel low. we Indian can't digest swag. we think decency is the only way to achieve respect and success. but that's not true. you can't have template for being successful. His career started in 1981-82. He was India's second best all rounder for many years. He was the first real floater who could bat & bowl in any slot & condition. He was an integral part of the team that won the 1983WC, 84 Asia Cup, 84 Rothmans Cup and 1985 Benson & Hedges Cup. I agree that 85 B&H had also talent like LS, Srikant & Kapil contributing. His test record away is much better than many celebrated players with hundreds in England, the first double hundred in Australia and even in NZ. Don't judge him by the last 2 years of his career that was clouded with a knee injury. (even then in 1991-92, he scored a 200 in Sydney). Yes, the 1991 WC was where he was super slow; but then every Indian player had a strike rate of less than 80. Ajay Jadeja who replaced Shastri had a SR less than 70. That way, we all know how were the last years of legends like Kapil & Sachin, that doesn't make them any lesser player. Yes, he was not a naturally talented player. He didn't have all the shots in the book. Yet, he made it to the top in a team that had so much natural talent. And, if you are judging him by the way he lives his life, I don't think he even cares! To me, he is the best captain India never had.

Love him or hate him, a true champion of champions! I was angry when Anil Kumble was ousted as a coach and Ravi Shastri was brought back. But, after seeing how expressive the Indian team has become vs How stupid Punjab Kings are going forward with their team in terms of team selection, the back-to-back chopping and changing, the poor tactics in terms of bowling order and the overall captaincy of KL Rahul, I get it now. Anil Kumble is a legend but Ravi Shastri is better for the team environment. At the highest level, players don't need someone to teach them the basics. They need people like Shastri to impart confidence in them and tell them they can do anything!

I am a sri lankan , nevertheless I dont know lots of inidans are in this comment section trying to criticize ravi shastri. But as a sri lankan, honestly I say , I have a fair respect for this man because he is a such a senior commentator that enjoyed my childhood so much and he did enough justice for everykind of player in or out side of india while he was commentating. Nevertheless I dont know whether he is a good or bad coach, but according to my opinion , I respect him that how he involved as a every aspect of cricket since long time

After watching this episode I realised it would be great fun if you do bring N. Siddhu paaji. I'm sure you would have to make that episode in two parts.

Came here after India’s 8-wkt win at MCG under Rahane. Last week, when India faced humiliation, this man was nowhere to be seen. Now today when the team has won, he is in the forefront, basking in the glory. Hallmark of what a leader shouldn’t be.

Ravi Shastri has really shown his punctuality during the COACH SELECTION of INDIA and then blaming it on Sourav Ganguly for not giving the slots ! Level of his double standards. He took the name of one of the greatest Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly who was & is always punctual and disciplined. Tried to DEFAME him cause he cannot stand with DADA. Shows your character Ravi Shastri Sir. You don't deserve respect.

Always a fan frm following ur 5/75 in NZ on debut. Mind u the time wnen Ravi made his name in world cricket every team had iconic players. Amidst limitation a hard wicket to get. Many do not know that he is the 1st Indian to score a 200 in Australia. He brought the debonair aura into indian cricket... REGARDS.
