Nice to see someone actually showcasing real piloting skills .

Technique - 1. Put 4.9 DME (or 5.0) on the Fix page to get a DME ring to tell you when to begin your turn. This will give you a good visual on the turns location and promotes good SA. 2. Approaching 4.9 DME (or the fix page arc) spin your heading bug before you begin the turn to 088 inbound. I've seen too many guys miss the 4.9 digits in their scan, or then lose SA as they roll to "what's the heading?" if they simply leave the bug back on runway heading. It's your tool, use it. Set the bug, then fly to it. If you have a strong wind, adjust the selected heading to compensate so that you roll out on the inbound course as opposed to parallel to it and then have to make an adjustment. These are just little things to keep you in front of the jet and not reacting to it. I figure you know these tricks, but am just posting them for your viewers. Too few pilots these days ever fly raw data (and / or even ever hand fly) and both their scan and skills SUCK as a result. They are Magenta Line / AutoPilot cripples. Nice Vid.

Incredible flying, you really have a finely tuned setup for such precision and PMDG have clearly modeled this airplane accurately. Thanks for showing how it’s done!

Hi there I really love this video raw data flying on the B737. Any chance that you could do the same video of raw data take off and also an ILS approach on the PMDG 777. Awesome instruction and very informative by the way!

Hello Emmanuel. Very informative video again, thank you for that. Only one question remains for me. I understand the function of the radio 1 and the 88 dgs course setting, and your lining up in the VOR mode with WRB. But, I don not understand what the use is of your radio 2 setting, and the 235 course setting in course 2. A saw that you at least have the DME from PAD then in the VOR screen below, but why set the 235 in course 2? What is the use of that here in this manual flying? Hopefully you can inform me. Thanks again for your good video.
@A330Driver2 жыл бұрын
Hi Boudewijn, PAD is tuned in VOR 2 in order to define the turning point for the SID at 4.9NM. The course setting simply serves as a reminder for the runway track. In a multi crew cockpit the PM would have adjusted my heading bug to match the runway track and then there would not have been a runway course available anywhere anymore. Aka if you forget what the course should have been you can simply look up at the MCP and have it there.

Hello! super gratefull for this video and I have one question if I can. You set WRB VOR and appropriate course as active frequency. But to fly SID you first need to know where 4.9 DME distance from PAD is, to make first turn. PAD DME is set as an active frequency on right hand nav pannel. And first course 235 is set on right hand course selector. Does it mean, that if we set nav aid and appropriate course on right hand side, would those informations like DME distance or course, available on left hand side ND? Otherwise how would we know when to make the first turn? Maybe this question is stupid and simple but I have just start to learn :) Best regards!

Sometimes when flying out of certain airports sim brief just gives me a way point. For example: Dct Jemez, etc. When looking on the FMS there are sids...are we just supposed to pick the "best" one for our route? Thx!
@A330Driver2 жыл бұрын
SimBrief routes are often incorrect or just total bs. I would always try to find a real life flightplan on edi-gla.co.uk or use any other route source flight flightaware for the US. I only use simbrief routes if there is nothing better available anywhere.

Great videos! I was wondering. In terms of SOPs, when PF asks PM for flaps UP a notch or two, for instance Flaps 5 to Flaps 1, PM answers by saying “speed check, (moves flap from 5 to 1 position) and when Flap 1 position is indicated “flaps 1”. However when going down the flaps the straight answer by the PM shall be “speed check, flaps X”. I hope I clarified myself. I think it was like this 😅 wasn’t it?
@A330Driver2 жыл бұрын
Hi, you're right on this, when retracting the flaps the PM should straight away say "speed check, flaps __" while when extending the flaps the answer should be "speed checked [wait till the flaps indicate at the target position], Flaps __"

Great Video! I've been looking at the Alaska Air Flt 65 leg from Wrangell (PAWG) to Petersburg (PAPG) and would be interested in your take on how to manage a 738 on such a short hop with low altitude climb. I notice that Simbrief ties to path you to a nearby VOR and at a higher altitude however most of the flights on this don't take that same pathing.
@A330Driver2 жыл бұрын
If the cruise is too short I'd recommend to do most of the approach preparation on the ground already before departure. You can fill out most of the FMC pages already, have your approach charts prepared, etc. Then you literally only need to set up frequencies, courses and minimums and off you go.
@Kommondan Жыл бұрын
Great video Captain ❤ I have a question about the NAVIGRAPH, when your subscription ends do you lose the new nav data that was updated in the FMC or does it stay even after subscription ends??
@A330Driver Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! You're going to keep the data you had at that point, but you can't redownload it. If you loose the data for whatever reason (like a reinstallation without a backup) it is gone.

would you mind doing a tutorial on the rwy 15 approach for paro international? the current waypoint altitude data arent allowing me to do a normal landing without a very steep decent. I like flying from Kathmandu, so the star coming from the west is what im requesting.

I don't have any good information into this approach either. Maybe that changes one day, then I'd certainly consider doing a video on it!

Are you going to do another video like this for a STAR? Perhaps also with a transition to final?
@A330Driver2 жыл бұрын
There will be a second part with a holding and some orientation games and then a third part flying the standard ILS from WRB, yes ;-) I'll skip a STAR since it's basically the same as flying a SID or the standard ILS.
