It's awesome that your taking the time to understand nutrition independently gaining your own understanding. Most of the dog nutrition covered in vet schools are funded by the pet food industries that the Vets then sell from their practices. Vets such as Dr Becker on Mercola further their research based on real science & biology. It is important to feed a nutritious balanced diet, many are now available in stores, grain & cereal free the way it should be.

At one year old I'd recommend two meals a day, also any diet change should be done slowly. Some dogs have more sensitive stomachs than others. Kibble fed dogs usually have less enzymes and good bacteria to deal with raw healthy, natural foods.

one egg shell is only approx 750mg of calcium dogs need way more than that for a daily dose, u would have to give u dog about 4 to 5 raw eggs everyday to meet that goal and u shouldnt be giving ur dog raw egg more than 1 to twice a week depending on ur dogs stomach

You are correct, depending on the dog and how they break down bones. I grind mine in a heavy duty meat grinder because my dogs don't crush bones properly. Raw bone doesn't splinter like cooked bones though, but they can still be sharp and large if they aren't chewed right.

2- 3% of pups estimated adult body weight broken into 4 meals per day, remember feed an eight week old 4 times a day. adult Rotties generally weigh 42- 55kg so start at 1kg per day, 250g per meal give more if needed. Mince is great as in mimics what the adults would regurgitate for the youngins after a hunt and its easier to digest. If you've just brought puppy home I'd suggest feeding whatever the breeder did, slowly introducing the raw as it can be stressful settling in away from the pack.

What supplement would you recommend for dogs with conjunctivitis pls? My dog had surgery removing his 3rd eyelid as the mass of tissue has grown bigger and will eventually cover his eyeball. But now, his left eye had some growth too. The doctor prescribed steroid eye cream and hopefully it is under control without having to do surgery again, else, another $2.5K is gone. I had already paid $2.5K for removing his 3rd eyelid on the right eye. This excludes X-ray and blood test, etc for $500.

Good call, however we feed the whole egg, not just the whites, the yolk is very rich in B12, B6 & Niacin the whole egg is very nutritious, Moderation is key. It would take a massive amount of eggs to create any deficiency. A, B multi vitamin is great as any excess B is simply eliminated through urine and doesn't create toxicity.

Hi Ben. I made this recipe for my dog once and he absolutely loved it so I plan on making it again. I'm just wondering how much offal you use in that recipe and where you got your offal from? I live in Queensland, Australia (couldn't tell if you're in aus or NZ). Just because when I went to my local supermarket and also local butchers, they only had livers, hearts etc on their own and did not come mixed together like what you had in the video. What do you suggest if I can't get premixed offal? Also, I have a 16month male Labrador who's moderately active, would 500g per meal suit him? He's 38kg. Many thanks
@benmaddison57510 жыл бұрын
Gold Coast, QLD at that time. Supermarkets are great for liver, kidneys and heart. Lungs, brains etc you're probably best ringing round some butcher shops. I mince my offal up in a mincer at home. 10% of the dogs diet should consist of offal. Hope this helps.

Thank you fir sharing your recipe, I believe I'll try it. I have a question and some advice for you. We humans eat Raw Beef and Fish (Carpacio & Sushi) but we don't eat Raw Chicken to avoid Salmonella..., is there no danger in feeding a dog Raw Chicken? Advice, and please do not be offended, this is offered with the best intentions... That big bucket you use looks like aluminum. Aluminum is VERY bad for humans, among other things it contributes to Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia. The vigorous mixing in the bucket with the the metal spatula or burger flipper rubbing on the walls of the bucket shaves aluminum particles off the bucket inner surface and mixes right into the food just like the alfalfa. VERY BAD. It would be much better to use a wooden spoon/spatula in a glass, porcelain or ceramic bowl. At the very least a wooden mixing utensil with the aluminum bucket. You did some mixing in what appeared to be a small stainless steel bowl with presumably a stainless steel spoon. This releases carbon particles into the mixture which also quite bad. The blender blades release the carbon particles also but it is not as bad, a food processor is more likely to release fewer metal particles into the mix. With good intentions, respectfully submitted.

Does your ground chicken have bones in it? if not my biggest concern with this is the lack of calcium. You need to add in some bone meal. a few eggs isn't enough calcium. 3 eggs provide the calcium for about 2 days for a 50lb dog. I wouldn't add any more eggs than 3. You should be putting in at a minimum 1 tsp of bonemeal per pound of meat.

Hello, I have a senior dog with a sensitive stomach. What is your suggestion for the amount to feed per day (he weighs about 40 lbs)? Also, does the type of meat and vegetables matter? He seems to like kale, apples, and carrots. Thanks!
@benmaddison57510 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica, Senior dogs should have less fat in their diets, If your dog has a sensitive stomach I would suggest to start off with adding 10% chicken breast to the food you are feeding at the moment and each week slowly increasing the chicken to get your dog's stomach used to the change in diet. as Offal is very rich I would wait until your dog is comfortable with the change of diet before adding it in. wait a month or two before introducing other raw meats by then your dog should have built up enough live enzymes and good bacteria to digest and deal with the nutrients. Like humans eating a stogy crap diet, if we went out and ate full on veges broccoli etc we would also suffer from gas as we wouldn't have the bacteria etc to deal with it. Hope this helps.. I'd stick to leafy greens, spinach or broccoli, maybe some cooked sweet potato if dog is underweight.
