Your dogs live the best life... wow. I would love to feed my dogs like that but meat isn’t cheap.
@kirstennicole62126 жыл бұрын
You can try a premade raw food, our buy in bulk... bulk obviously has its discounts and some companies will offer a discount if you feed a certain quantity. We feed our 5 great danes raw and it costs us less than good quality kibble. We pay at max $2 a lb for standard meats (chicken, beef, pork, duck and fish) but usually just over $1... and a little more than $2 a lb for more exotic meats. (And I'm talking in canada so America would be even less) Here, even the lower quality kibble like pedigree are over $1 per lb and my dogs could never retain weight on kibble without over eating... which cost more. A high quality kibble is like $3 per lb... and they maintain a healthy weight, and aren't hungry as often... plus I have less poop to clean up, and I have saved thousands on vet and dental bills. So if you take the time to break it down it is not only cheaper but the benefits are worth alot! Try joining a fb raw group and seeing what others in your area are spending and where they are sourcing their product!

Question for you: I notice that you poke your fork in every bowl food while talking. Isn't there a risk of contamination? Like Caspian being allergic to chicken...poke the fork in the chicken thigh and then in his beef and rice bowl. This is not to be rude, i am just wondering I love the fact that you take so much time to prepare each meal so differently. Your dogs are lucky! For the Chihuahua, why isn't it good for her to eat bones if she has dental problems? I thought that to chew on hard stuff helped getting rid of bad things on dogs teeth. I know you said that each diet needs to fit your own dog, but I am surprise you dont give them much veggies and fruits.
@HappyTailsAnimals6 жыл бұрын
It's actually it's a food intolerance and not a real allergy. So it's not like people who are allergic to peanuts and can't eat at places where peanuts may have contaminated the area. I explain more in his allergy video, linked above. Her teeth would brake off if she chewed on bones. Bones can help a dogs teeth stay healthy but her teeth are too damaged at this point to be able to reverse that. My dogs don't really like a lot of fruits and veggies. I give fruits and veggies as snacks to the dogs that do enjoy them. To me it's better to use the supplement that way I'm not struggling with each one being picky.

Plants are NOT a natural part of the canine diet. They only ingest plant matter accidentally while spilling the stomach and intestinal contents of their prey if larger animals or when eating whole such as mice, to induce vomiting or in case of starvation.

@@lunaflamed Funny, I learned that dogs evolved eating scraps from humans which included fruits and veggies. Also, tell my dog that as she loves eating grass. She also loves eating fruits and vegetables so much that I call her a 'fruit dog' and a 'veggie dog' when she eats them. Guess she's not a real dog according to you?
@lunaflamed5 жыл бұрын
Sullen Angel I’m sure she’d also eat candy if you gave it to her, because it’s sweet. Does that mean she should eat candy or that it’s good for her? Had a cat that would HARASS me to share my honey dew melons and cantaloupes with him, especially the juice. Cats as I’m sure you know are obligate carnivores, but that didn’t stop him from demanding chunks of cantaloupes and honeydew melon, especially the juice. Animal ( especially HQ) fat such as cream is also sweet. FAR MORE healthy for humans and dogs than fructose from fruit. Wolves eat grass when their stomachs are upset and or they have intestinal worms ( parasites) it is typically used to induce vomiting. Your dog likely has an upset GI track, she is compelled to self treat, especially if her food contains a lot of grains and other inappropriate foods. When we lived in caveman/ prehistoric times, where were the vegetables? Do you think we grow carrots in the Ice Age? What about broccoli and celery, yams... tomatoes...? Where were our gardens in caveman times? Apples came from the Middle East. What vegetables did we grow in the winter, which in the northern climates is effectively half the year? Yams, corn, tomatoes, potatoes and many other vegetables are originally from South America. Rice is from the Asian Countries, is LOW in nutritional value. Vegetables did NOT even exist in prehistoric/ cave man times... Most didn’t even exist a couple of hundred years ago... Most fruits have also been HEAVILY selectively bred, especially for increased sugar content. Gene splicing has become very common. Google what bananas and watermelons and avocados looked like before we started to selectively breed and genetically modify them through gene splicing. Google what carrots and other vegetables looked like before we began to selectively breed/ gene splice them. Do you think a plant would want you to eat their seeds? Things such as peas, grains and nuts are also the fetuses of plants... do you think plants want us to eat their young? Only a small number of fruits, mostly berries WANT someone to eat them, as they want their offspring to grow as far away from themselves as possible, also their seeds are tiny so unlikely to be damaged by the teeth and require stomach acid of an animal to strip off the coating so that it can absorb water and begin to sprout in a handy pile of animal dung, rich in nutrients.

Mark Harris there is nothing to be concerned about when it comes to the dog as they are built to handle bacteria. As for humans you would want to be cautious when handling raw meat. Some people worry about their raw fed dogs licking peoples faces and giving them salmonella but that wouldn’t be a huge issue unless the person was immunocompromised.

Raw fed dogs glow with health. Can always tell a shiny coated, bright eyed raw/species appropriate-fed dog from a dull, dry, kibble-fed dog.

so, can you give raw pork rib bones to a dog? ive been feeding raw, but ive never tried pork, because i heard pork is a large holder of parasites when raw.
@pritch89184 жыл бұрын
you just keep it very simple and i love it!

For people who are worried about the bones, I would suggest hitting the meat with a hammer or a meat tenderizer to crush up the bones. My dog is 9 and she had to have 12 teeth removed due to an infection and this trick helps her to eat raw food easier and more comfortable!

I feed my dog raw and it is the best thing you could possibly do for you dog, it has made such a change in her and she is much healthier and loves it wayyyy more than kibble. Making our own raw meals is actually cheaper than expensive wet food or kibble. It costs us around £1.40 a day to feed her raw but on canagans or lillys kitchen she ate a whole can a day which was £2.10. depending on what she has the price on raw varies. eg tonight she has two chicken wings, lamb heart, ox kidney, minced beef, pig liver, spinach and carrot. She had oatmeal turkey chunks and quails egg for breakfast! She is spoiled but we love her so its worth it. We are going to order in bulk from suppliers so it will be cheaper than how we currently get stuff from the supermarket.

Hi very good information, was that raw salmon? I am not sure if cooked is better or raw? Can they eat quinoa? Thank you
@nina-wt9ru4 жыл бұрын
Very nice video and thank you so much for all the information. I also feed raw but I was told not to feed raw egg whites, the yolk is fine but raw egg white is apparently not healthy for dogs. Same goes to raw pork - I was told not to feed it due to the parasite trichinella spiralis larvae. Just letting you know as a helpful advice - we never stop learning :)
@HappyTailsAnimals4 жыл бұрын
Total nonsense about the egg whites. Raw pork is fine if you kill bacteria beforehand. You are getting some really bad advice. So yes, good idea for you to keep learning.
@nina-wt9ru4 жыл бұрын
@@HappyTailsAnimals how do you kill the bacteria? I just googled and it just said not to feed it. And with the egg whites: do you put extra biotin in the bowls as raw egg whites can cause biotin deficiency?

What do you typically spend a month for your dogs on this diet? I have three large dogs I am trying to convert to a raw diet, but I find that it is too expensive so i'm only doing it once a meal.... how do you save on this? I spend about 40 a month on kibble and then another 50-70 on raw...

I feed my dachshund/Jack Russell mix various meats cooked med or med rare and steamed veggies. How do you convert from cooking meat to raw uncooked meat? Does it cause stomach upset if you switch suddenly or is it best to cook gradually less until raw?

Some dogs can't eat raw eggs everyday, it should be Boiled for him. the yolk itself contains all the proteins and of course the fat so i feed mine the white part if he's starts to get chunky & definitely remove the salmon skin we shouldn't eat it either

Should I attach a small bell to my pyppy's collar so I always know where to find it? Or does it drive a dog crazy?
@luminousyoongi93566 жыл бұрын
try keeping your puppy on a leash indoors and attach it to your wrist or belt loop on your pants. this way, you can control where your puppy goes and never lose him. its especially good for puppies because it isnt good to give them a lot of freedom early on and its better to always have them in the same room as you until they're older
@carolhogg65165 жыл бұрын
Malee B. Please do not attach a bell to the collar. Yes, it would drive him nuts! It’s also not nice for cats to have bells on their collars. Just imagine if it was us, and we had that noise each time we moved. How awful that would be. Best wishes. 🤗🇳🇿

Royal dogs👑 where do you get your supplement for the dogs.
@River23846 жыл бұрын
I'm confused then. I didn't end up looking up pet info after it happened, but my sisters friend was giving her dogs a raw diet with chicken in it a couple years ago and the dogs got really sick from salmonella. I know one of the dogs was pregnant so she ended up having her pups a little too early and they were sick from it too. Aren't you worried that yours could get it or the possibility of any of the meats or eggs being "contaminated"? Or do you use your own chickens or at least well known chickens for some of it to reduce the likelihood? Note: I know that people eat and also give thir animals raw egg, but how do you reduce the risk of food poisoning to them?
@HappyTailsAnimals6 жыл бұрын
The dog didnt get sick because of a raw diet. This person did something wrong. Maybe feeding old meat, not storing it right, not feeding the right food. There are so many possibilities as to what they did wrong. And besides that, what you are describing cannot be blamed on raw chicken. There is a lot more to the story that you probably dont even know.

My dogs are raw fed. I learned this way of feeding from Dr. Billinghurst, a vet in Australia and author of the book, "Give Your Dog a Bone". I had 2 labs at the time and one lived to be 15 1/2 and the other about the same. I fed them turkey wings, turkey necks, chicken wings, chicken necks, fish (with bone), pork neck bones. There was little in meats that they did not eat. Veggies were also fed raw, though I did put them thru a grinder and ground them coarsely, except for some, like zucchini and crooked neck squash (yellow squash). My furries did NOT eat corn. They enjoyed many fruits also. Their teeth were amazing! Bright white and nothing in-between them. They ate once a day as adults. I saved a lot of money feeding this way and best of all ... I knew what they were eating! Oh, and they had raw egg ... shell and all, I just broke it up (crushed the shell). They also were given different livers with their veggie "slop", as I called it. LOL I applaud you for feeding raw!!!

What would happen if the meat you fed them has salmonella? Are they immune to it?
@kaylacollins3116 жыл бұрын
Basically. Dogs can eat raw meat since they evolved from wolves. Their digestive system, unlike ours, can safely break down and kill any parasites in raw meat. :)
@Eddie_the_Husky6 жыл бұрын
I've seen where they can get it just like us (Dr. Karen over on the Mercola channel mentions it) so it's important to keep things sanitary and use good meat. :) Also, for the eggs, salmonella is on the outside of the shell so wash them in warm soapy water prior to feeding. :)
@thephatphox24426 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say immune, but their stomach pH is so strong they can often handle it and poop it right out! This is the same with many other bacteria, such as E. coli. Not with many types of parasites though. Store bought food (graded for human consumption) often does not have parasites that will cause damage but wild game may very well possess it, so it is recommended that if you feed your domesticated dog wild game to freeze it for at least two weeks to kill parasites. Also, this is a good reason to pick up your dogs poop, they have the ability to spread harmful bacteria and parasites that may not affect your dog but could affect types of wildlife and/or other domestic pets!

I raw feed one of our dogs, (Nova) which is one quarter Arctic wolf. (Her grandfather on her fathers side is the Arctic wolf) We live off grid on a mountain up north in Canada, so Nova has her full freedom to run but chooses to stay on our actual property. She does not chase/hunt and/or kill animals, or what would be deemed prey for a wolf, other than that the squirrels love to tease her so she'll chase them but even when she's managed to corner one of them, she has never harmed them. Only animals she will chase are wild predator animals such as bears, coyotes etc. off our property and guards the animals that belong to "the pack". The other side of her heritage is from working German Shepard lines, which I strongly believe she has inherited most of her behavioral traits from, even if she clearly has wolf traits as well. Raw feeding her is what works best for her. Every now and then she'll "find" something out in the woods that she'll bring home and see as her "prize possession". Seems like the more disgusting it is, the more she loves it... I'm in no way happy when she does that but, I do believe that her wolf genes prevent her from getting sick. We also have a red Healer (Roxy) which eats both kibble and raw. Roxy was 5 years old when I moved out here 3 years ago and was not used to eating raw so, I'm still in the process of switching her over to raw and have noticed much improvement in both her coat, allergy problems, over all health and stamina. Right now, she's on 50/50 and I'm thinking about keeping it that way since that is what seems to work good for her. They both love big raw meaty bones and share without any issues. That is as long as Roxy doesn't try to steal Nova's "found prize possessions"... :P Every now and then Nova will steal a few of Roxy's kibbles but, I think she does that just to make sure that Roxy isn't getting something better than she is. LOL We have our own farm animals, chickens, beef, rabbits, goats and trade for various types of fish/salmon etc. I do freeze the dogs various types of meat, innards bones etc. but, only due to that I need it to keep throughout the year after butcher season is over.
