Viewer Mark Lindgren, a passenger on United Flight 328, took this video of the moments after the Boeing 777 landed safely at DIA and fire trucks arrived to douse the plane and failed engine.
The flight from DIA to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu took off at 1:04 p.m. Saturday. The flight had 229 passengers and 10 crew members on board, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
Only minutes later, the plane's right engine exploded. The pilot circled the aircraft south and east, and made an emergency landing at DIA at 1:29 p.m., while in the cabin, passengers took cellphone video of the burning engine. The flight landed safely, and there were no injuries on board.

Yes, it's very emotional to address the passengers after such an emergency. It's unlikely to happen in an entire professional pilot's career, but we train for it every year. Good Job crew! Juan

About the foam on the fuselage of the plane. The primary objective of ARFF (Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting) is life safety. During these videos you often will see the first application of foam not on the fire, but between the fire and the escape routes. This is to provide a safety buffer if needed. Next is the consideration of fire and the effect of the fires heat on anyone inside the aircraft. It might be best to just put out the fire. It could also be a concern to either cool the fuselage or cover it with an insulating barrier, the foam. In this case the fire was sprayed with water to extinguish it, and to cool the engine to prevent reignition. That wing holds hundreds of gallons of fuel, right over a hot engine. A projective blanket of foam on the fuselage is not a bad idea. Also, as these events are exceptionally rare, this is a good time to put into practice what you would do in a move serious incident. Training, even during an event, is not a bad thing. It helps keep your skills up for the next time you need them.

@HeidiKohne
@HeidiKohne 3 жыл бұрын
When planes go into grounded storage for a period of time, like what happened because of the pandemic, they aren't sitting there untouched that whole time. Airline crews periodically have to uncover the engines, unblock the wheels, start up all the systems and fly it around a bit to keep them greased and good for when they do have to put them back into service. And then taxi them back to where they were sitting and get crucial areas re-covered. For every . single . plane.

That would be dangerous...the engine was hot in pieces and on fire...flames could have shot out in all directions Also the cabin was pressurized...not knowing if flamable agents made it into the cabin opening the door could have caused the cabin to fll with flames fast...very fast ..like everyone dead before standing up fast..that has happened a few times in the past..that is why unless.the plane is in pieces..it wasnt....the cabin is already on fire...it wasnt..or the cabin was in danger of burning any second they would not evacuate...the engine is designed to fail inward...which for the most part it did...so in the moment the cabin was the safest place to be

One couple had left their kids at home in order to take their first real vacation in 21 years. If you have kids on vacation, you know what I mean by 'first real vacation". Apparently, United had them booked on a flight to Honolulu 6 hours later - they weren't about to go back home after looking forward to this vacation for a long time - can you imagine their reception at the hotel? I bet everyone of the guests and staff wanted to hear "all about it".

Boeing lost two planes and countless passengers due to an MCAS failure, covered it up, then continued to fly there planes. Now they are finding FODs, which is foreign object debris in the fuel tanks. Boeing puts profit before customers safety. I would rather pay more so my loved ones arrive safely. Thank you to the pilots who showed great heroism during this horrible situation.
