This situation is so relatable as it almost seems programmed within a person to want to help the people you love. That makes it difficult to recognize situations where you could be doing more harm than good.

It really is the most difficult following the principles of the science when it comes to family, especially my children. I understand the principles of behavior, I use these principles to improve the lives of my learners, but when my daughter gives me a sad look, I have to dig deep. I know that if I want to teach her important life goals, sometimes she’s not going to like my answer, but I also have to be consistent. Being true to our goals in life, teaches our children and improves their lives. Effective is one of the characteristics of ABA. We can reflect on this characteristic not only as practitioners, but also as parents, to guide our children to achieve the best life that is possible.

Thank you for sharing this Brett because you are so right, to place on extinction the behavior of those you love the most is the most grueling experience ever.

Hearing say something was hard for you blows my mind. You're the man I look up to when I'm sitting of course. I recently had to do the same thing with a person I love. She actually called me back 4.5 hours later and apologized to me. It's really hard not to utilize the things we know with the ones we care about, but it's worth it for a better future. I'm glad you made it sir.

It is just the same principle with a different face, that's why I think the behavior analysis is so flexible and such infinite science, is the situational of it..but still the same strategy
