I am buying a Canon 5d Mark III today for personal projects! I love to see that raw has become even more reliable ! A lot of videos are from 2013! Thank you for doing an update!

So after using your method for a few shoots, I can say I am pleasantly surprised, I need expose alittle different from the hunter method which I actually prefered, I was so used to underexposing slightly, but now I shoot exactly how I like the picture on the camera. Your LUT, is actually very nice :) Thanks Mate, great job :) I now shoot 25p 10bit 1.67x now for interviews, file sizes are around 38mb/s, and picture quality is great :) Plan on getting a eosm as b camera. cheers mate.

Great news :) Just use the raw histogram in the camera while shooting to get the perfect exposure!

Are you shooting magic lantern raw video with your mark II?
@kamranfarooqui76197 жыл бұрын
Yeah, MLV workflow, since I require sound too. On the MAC OSX btw.

+Kamran Farooqui it will work for sure.
@kamranfarooqui76197 жыл бұрын
Awesome mate. Thanks! Also, I noticed that your using MLVFS workflow on the mac. I tried that on my mac pro 3.1 using SSD - I get very sluggish playback under resolve? How do you workaround that?
@MitchLally7 жыл бұрын
+Kamran Farooqui I don't have playback issues. Try turning off stripes correction and fix pattern noise removal. I'm actually using CR2HDR now so that I can set custom black and white levels. Setting the white level to 16383 gives better looking results with the dng sequence.

Hey Mitch... Can resolve decode my Magic lantern footage? It appears that's what you did... Also what memory card did you use?

Hey Mitch Lally, I'm a bit lost. New to ML. I just downloaded the firmware to my 5D III and I shoot .MLV Files instead of DNG Sequences. Is there a special module to be used to record dngs? or do you use any special software to covert them? Thank you so much!
@MitchLally7 жыл бұрын
You need to convert the MLV files to Cinema DNG. There are programs available on the forum but it depends what OS you are running Mac or Win? I use MLVFS or cr2hdr. Try searching either of those and following the instructions.
@carlosmontielvalenzuela7847 жыл бұрын
Very helpful! Thanks! ❤️ Mac users I recommend you "MLV App 2", I haven't had problems decoding MLV files.

Thanks so much for the breakdown! What's your workflow like after this? How do you maintain such great quality from Davinci into premiere then youtube?
@nitramzolef40096 жыл бұрын
What about SOUND!? How you handle the sound? IT's recorded differently or you have enable raw-sound in your 5dIII? If it is enable where is it in your video because i have sound but it's laggy so maybe I have transcoded the DNG file wrong. I confuse with the sound please help. Thanks for the video very instructive.
@MitchLally6 жыл бұрын
In the new 10/12/14 bit builds there is a module called mlv_snd (magic lantern sound) which enables you to record sound with the raw video - just simply enable the module in the modules section of magic lantern and if you choose a DNG converter that supports sound it will import with the clip itself in Davinci. Alternatively if you use the new "MLV APP" from the forum, it automatically imports sound and video directly from the .MLV file, now need to convert to DNG first. Magic Lantern are always improving and a lot has changed since I made this video!
@MaxxD174 жыл бұрын
dos autofocus still work with ML raw and is it any good? :) - Thanks in advance!
@HPantea7 жыл бұрын
I have a question with your actual production day, I found shooting RAW on my 5D MarkIII fills up my cards very quickly. How did you manage with the files sizes while shooting something like a wedding? I'm a little too scared to commit to ML for things like weddings. Thanks for the great video btw!

still relevant, at least for me! thanks for the effort and the sharing. thumbs up.

AWESOME VIDEO! Is there any way to export in RAW format from da vinci to premiere and then come back to Da Vinci for color correction e color grading? Thanks
@MitchLally8 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is a way to do that! I'm just not sure of the specifics as to how - I saw someone make a video about it. You need to import the CDNG straight into premiere first then use an XML file to migrate to davinci.
@JeanMarcGarin8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm going to try!
@FFdo.7 жыл бұрын
First you get the DNG files into Davinci, color grade and export the files as ProRes Proxy, then import those files in premiere, do the editing and go to File > Export > Final Cut XML. Go back to Davinci, import that XML and create a new timeline based on that, do further color grading when finished, export the files as full ProRes 444.

This video is awesome, very informative and something I've been look for the last 4 years of Magic Lantern. I'm using 5D Mark II so I'm curious what lens did you use, what the highest ISO did you use and lastly do you prefer DiVinci over Adobe Raw and AfterEffects to process into ProRes4444XQ?
@MitchLally8 жыл бұрын
I used a variety of lenses, mostly primes. I used up to 4000 ISO. I prefer Resolve over AE because of render time and colour space options :) Its about 10x faster which means a lot when encoding 1.5TB of MLVs.
@RTI_MD7 жыл бұрын
Great video. How much data do you have with an average (average in a time-frame meaning ) wedding? I've been playing with ML for quite some time, tried different workflows, I'm currently owning a 6D (though had a 5D3) - if you need to upscale the footage (which you need in case of 6D, if you deliver 1080p) the best, but slowest way is After effects, also works well if you are used to process raw files as a photographer. Davinci is much faster though, and has the right tools if you are used to video color grading process :)
@MitchLally7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree, after effects has better controls for raw but Davinci is much faster. Its around 1-1.5 TB for 3 cams.
@RTI_MD7 жыл бұрын
Yep, Davinci is much faster! 1.5TB is quite a lot for a wedding, and risky IMO :) I thought you film only the highlights footage in MLV (maybe including the first dance and some of the outside, daylight footage where you need the DR).
@MitchLally7 жыл бұрын
+TataruRoman nope I usually film all of it. You could probably get away with 1TB or less now that magic lantern can do 10 bit raw.
