You can really see how Rick Rude felt when he got that initial reaction at the start of Raw. He didn't give a standard heel reaction, but instead had what was obviously a "Come on, guys, I don't agree with what happened to Bret, either" look of disappointment to him. That said, really looking forward to next week's RtW thumbnail, because there's really no other choice than two Rick Rudes.

Watching RAW back then it really felt like the air was thick with tension. Backstage wrestlers like Mick Foley boycotted the show, Undertaker threatened to kick Vince's ass in a shoot, Bulldog, Jim The Anvil would leave immediately after. The ripple effect of the Montreal Screwjob was interesting and odd to witness in real time.

@@xLitaFan4Everx I was 7 in 1997, I didn't know anything about the screw job because I didn't get to see wrestling regularly as I only had cable when I stayed at my father's house. I was a huge Bret fan as a younger kid, but I wouldn't come to appreciate the true extent of his greatness until I was able to access the Network several years ago and watch his full career. His matches with Diesel are some of the most underrated in-ring storytelling in the history of the industry. All because people like to pretend that Nash was all size and no talent, which is entirely untrue. He was just far too green for the title push he was given, but working with Bret brought up the ability of just about everyone he ever worked with.

Watching Bischoff be so smug about Bret coming over to WCW makes how badly they drop the ball with him sting that much more. He was handed an actual golden apple at the height of the Monday Night Wars and tossed it in the trash.
