This makes a lot of sense. There was a creepy guy at my former church who chased after college girls. I shared with him experiences from counseling and how I got healing from wounds suffered as a child. He looked at me like I was from outer space and denied any similar experiences or desire/need for counseling. A couple weeks later at an event with several young adults, mostly women, an 18 year old freshman shared an experience of abuse. Instantly the creep jumped in with a story just like hers (he seemed to take mine but changed the names) and began crying “uncontrollably” on command and ultimately in her arms. He was such a creep.

When you waste energy making a new mask when it's much cheaper (energywise) to fix yourself.

He mirrored me with loyalty and faithfulness. He even had me meet his friends and told them i was his gf (even though hed tell me we werent a couple that hed wanted to work on himself and we could work our way there) but that made me prove how loyal I was to him and only him. It kept me in this cycle so he made sure he pretended he was faithful and I honest believed he was until he betrayed me with cheating. WOW. Thanks, Ben.
