I caught my first frog fish yesterday. It was small but he smashed it. He was barely hooked. The reason for not catching a frog fish before is because i always pulled the lure out of the fishes mouth and i never set the hook hard enough.

Frogging is a style of fishing that is different than other fishing because you normally react too fast because you can see what is happening. Proper timing is assessment is needed for good hooksets, not to mention line and rod selection

@@rawrfishing The heaviest rod i would use would be medium heavy. I hate when someone equips themselves with 45-60lb braid and just reel the fish in within 5 seconds. When i fish . The heaviest line i use is 25lb braid(I averagly use 10lb). I averagely use a medium to medium heavy rod. and normally i set the drag just enough so if i catch a decent fish it could take drag.

That is because their drag is up high. Not necessarily because they have heavy rod or line. Its important to have the right gears fishing specific lures and water. I swamp fish so I need heavy gears so they don't unhook themselves

Which reel did you like better? The old or new? I have the new one and sent it back for the 8:6.1 I thought the brakes where ok but I barely use tension knob on my reels some of them hit my star drag cause there it’s so loose Lmao but no Torque!!!! Zero none but I enjoyed the casting I spooled it with a 3/8 Oz football jig

They all have flaws, but this was the best of the 3. Wished they never went centrifugal braking

I know u do finesse fishing, and was wondering, if dropshoting works on snakehead? Im starting to fish again (last time i fished was when i was a kid) and the dominant species here are snakehead. I know for sure spinnerbaits work on them.

if they are hugging bottom sure.. but most snakehead spots i fish are shallow unless it's colder season and they stick to the channels. with that said, i never really drop shot for them and can't say if it works,, but why wouldn't it?

Yea thats what i thought (most people here use topwater frogs/ baits for snakehead). Its been only 2 days i fished (both days were good) when my country was put on strict home quarantine, so sadly no fishing for now. Cant wait for all this pandemic to settle and start fishing again. gotta stay in and be safe! likely most of my places will be restricted as well. the state level parks have all closed and county parks are closing too. Some bodies of water will remain open but will likely be full of people. Time to hit up some private lakes :)

Is 13.2 lb of drag enough to use this for bottom fishing in the new england sound for fluke and seabass? I have a diawa lexa 300 and it's got bit more drag work perfect , needed a second set up . Your thought

I would avoid using this reel for salt. Heard from a fan that it didn't hold up on a spring. He used it for tidal rivers for salmon in Alaska

Likely the braided line shooting the the guide of the reel. Its a cheap braid. But it works well. I don't mind the noise. Especially later on when I put in ceramic hybrid bearings.

This amazing reel seems to be out of production since their speed demon elite was released. It's a shame because this cast further than the new one! You can try aliexpress as the kastking store front might still have it

as a multispecies angler, a fish is great if you catch one... but having many in a day makes it better. Bass fishing is fun but there's more than just bass that swims our waters! raWr Fishing yeah I’m not judging snakeheads because I haven’t caught one before lol. I guess I’ve just heard people say they are a nuisance. I love catching other species but some people I know hate snakeheads and I guess I am listening to them too much. I also love catching crappie, catfish, drum, any type of sunfish, Muskie, pike, walleye, and more. I love up north and that’s basically why I’ve never encountered a snake head. I am mostly a bass fisherman so I target big bass, but I always like to catch other fish if I can’t catch bass that day. I didn’t mean anything against you I was just saying what I’ve heard about snakehead. But actually, nice fish and reel!

oh no offense taken! everyone have their own experiences, preferences, etc. and I am happy to that you love targeting many other species! To me, No fish are nuisance unless you really only targeting only one specific fish. I know plenty of die hard bass anglers are like that where they would discount every single fish if it's not a bass. Some folks would even go do some extreme stuff to protect their bass fishery. I once fished behind a boat on Loch Raven Reservoir, MD, and these guys were nailing pickerels left and right after the bass post spawn. they bashed every one in the head and threw it back in the water! My brother and I picked a few up legal size and kept it to give away to family members to eat. I know that's an insane story, but there's been a viral video of a man clubbing a pike after he hooked one and threw it back because he is a bass angler. The person recording it argued with them on video of course, but just trying to point out that some people do go overboard! With that said, i think folks should be careful when reading what others have to say online via social media. now and days there are ton of folks who are keyboard warriors and social media like facebook seems like a grade school playground! We live in an insane world!

I think those would be great options. I have a Perigee 2 rod, ML casting. haven't tried the crixus yet. I think the Speed Demon reel both 1st gen and pro needs to be more refined for the price. Can't wait for the Speed Demon Elite to come out.

Other than the reel handle snapping while wrangling a 8 lb snakehead... everything else is still good. Casts frogs like a champ!

Nice Snakeheads Jimmy! I have the regular Speed Demon and I also use it for Frogging. I like it as they made it look like a budget version of the Daiwa Steez. If I ever need another reel that fast I will look at the pro version

I prefer to say you should follow your local laws when it comes to handling your fish. You can always use mouth opening tools to help or just shove a plier in the mouth. They will get tired. Thx for watching

Great job as always! Kastking is really stepping up its game. I hope they release their BFS reel soon. Those snakeheads are meaner than a rattlesnake! One day you'll have to try and land one on the BFS gear.

thanks man! yes they have. It was surprising that they even partnered with Tacklewarehouse when they don't put gears in store fronts and focus on ecommerce. A big for them this year. I hope they would reduce the price of this reel and phase out the 1st generation when the new Speed Demon Elite gets dropped. It would help keep their famous slogan of "Affordable Innovation". Now.. i did throw the BFS the same day! i got hit, but 4 lb test line doesn't hold up LOL. i guess i can try like 6 lb braided line next time :P

@@rawrfishing s Florida has all types of fish....but as a Floridian, we usually draw a line at lake Okeechobee and south of that isn't part if our state. Lol. There are so many invasive and introduced species that i refer to that as fishing in central America. What i catch down there are nowhere here. And I live on a nature preserve and if a snakehead is ever found here, it might as well be called Covidhead. ALL resources would be concentrated on getting them. They would kill everything in my lake. Snakeheads would murder.

First time viewer here and when you set that first hook, you spooked me lol. Looking into getting a speed demon myself, the regular version is only sale right now for $49, should i go for it??!

lol, you gotta understand the fish to know why I do that tho. Their bite force is like no other fish!! if you got a weak sauce hookset, they would likely not get hooked. The old speed demon is weak on brakes. if you use it for casting lures, not too bad, but don't expect to skip lures. I have used the old one for about 1.5 years before I did something totally stupid and broke it. and that is trying to yank a frog off a tree with 50 lb braided line. the tree won LOL. any way, i have put 50 lb braided line and the Spool Hi Speed Ceramic Hybrid bearings on it and i can spool myself on a 14 gram frog on the right wind condition. that's distance! I would suggest the newer one for the upgraded brakes.
