From their site Can I upload a single before my album, and then include that single on my album? Yep! Just upload the single first, and then upload the entire album (including the single) as a separate release. Once the full release is in stores, you can choose to leave the single, or remove it and only have the album version available. Note: If you use your existing ISRCs (you need to have the Musician Plus or Label plan to do so), the exact same audio file as in your original upload, same metadata (track titles, artist name, etc.) this might help retain play counts/playlists for the single in some stores. Nothing that we (or stores) can guarantee, however.

I get that the preview start time clip can be chosen by the artist, however, how long does that preview clip go for on Tiktok, iTunes, etc? Does it start from that time and go till the end of the song or is there a specific time frame? Is that time frame different for different places?

You can select where in the song the preview is and I believe the store determines the length of the preview. You just get it to start where you want.

(eg through an email) or do you just have to keep a lookout and find when it's been released yourself? And, how long can it take for a debut single to be released onto all major platforms? Yeah they send emails to me whenever it is live on the stores. This is what they expect wait times to be. iTunes/Apple Music: 1-7 days or sooner. Often same-day. A small percentage of albums go through manual review at Apple, which takes an additional 16 business days. Spotify: Up to 5 days Amazon: 2-4 days Pandora: 1-2 weeks (curated, though) Deezer: 1-2 weeks

So I have 5 tracks that I want to upload Distrokid. Some of the songs were recorded as one track. But I want to separate some of these tracks into separate tracks making the total of 8 tracks to make an album. Can I do that while uploading the tracks to Distrokid or would I have to cut tracks before submission? Also if I did have to separate each track myself would there be a time delay moving from track when finally submission

Yeah they won’t cut it for you they just post as it’s uploaded. For the time delay you would have to test it by playing 2 songs back to back and see if it delays it. I’m not sure.

Yeah it would be a split credit and you would ask the producer if they want their name or brand name. Usually it is the legal name

Distrokid added a new service for youtube and it required us to check that box in order to recieve money from ads only when we have created every peace of music and sample s ourselves which is impossible. How david gueta and other collect money fro youtube they all use samples from libraries and they still getting paid from ads , can you please help us in that aspect? can we check that box (including all boxed from this category) that we have created all the sounds ourselves even we haven't? I still feel that CDBaby is cheaper.. I heard about the legacy option (or whatever) but still not convinced on changing to DK. Specially after seeing that they charge an additional .99 cents per year to be on Shazam and Siri, thats pretty lame. I'm sure that the reports would be from the 20 dollar account (basic) which I can live with but again.. I would only switch to DK once I start blowing up and generating some real numbers with my music.. Also, I did not see anything on UPC or ISRC codes, did I accidentally skip that part?

Took a quick look on CDbaby and they take a 9% commission on digital sales. I'm not a fan of giving up a % so I wouldn't go that route personally. And it would come down to how much music you plan to release per year. If it's 1 or 2 songs then CDBaby might be better for you but more than that and it gets expensive paying $9 per single release.

I mean I have little to no following but am using the fact that my music is on Spotify since people seem to really like that. Point being is that I haven't even made close to $200 dollars (9% of that would be 18 dollars) and I'm almost reaching 1 year...... My low numbers aside, it would not benefit me to pay 20 dollars a year (let alone $35 a year which is what I would go for) for the time being. I am also not releasing singles until I start getting a bigger following as it would not make sense to do so, which is why I mentioned that I would switch to DK once I start getting more followers. I do hate paying yearly fees though, probably as much as you hate giving up %, the music industry is one fickle bitch my friend. All the best!

I don't think they do any scanning. That is on you to know if you are the owner or have permission. If you are unsure best to contact the producer to see if it is okay.

If it is a Topic channel that DistroKid created for you to place your music you can't manage it. You would post any music videos you make on your own channel and manage them there.

They send your music to the stores asap and the stores all release based on their own schedules so Spotify and iTunes will be the fastest usually then the other take a little longer.
