WOW. This is astounding. It seems that new doors to violin music are opened to me daily. It never ends (thank goodness). Now, thanks to Ms. Carter, I've discovered Jazz violin. Her virtuosity actually made my eyes tear, and I'm 5x yrs old. Thank you so much Ms. Carter to opening my eyes (and ears). Fantastic! Bravo!!!

I've seen Regina a bunch of times in 15 years. Too many to list. Last year was unbelievable, she is writing and playing at the highest level period. I don't care what label you call her music... SHE BADD! Like... listen to Ray through out. He's like, I got you baby right here in the pocket. Look at his face! At the end he wipes his head with a towel, then she turns around smiling. Happy Birthday Daddy! too cool

I gotta say - that is an absolutely insanely awesomely and brilliantly wonderful swinging piano solo...love it! And it's clear Ray loves it too - imagine how amazing it must feel to have Ray Brown shouting 'Oh yeah' in your solo (4:07)!

Stuff was born Hezekiah Leroy Gordon Smith, used the word "stuff" often in conversation, eventually was nicknamed. I have fair amount of his recordings, they're all on vinyl. Gotta learn how to convert analog to digital because I miss listening to his work. Its so good to know that others are interested in jazz violin. Its surreal about Regina because she has mastered his technique to the ultimate.

Hello, I'm not sure if you know that much about jazz, but the bent note's are not to resolve all the time. This type of technique is part of what made jazz what it is. New Orleans is a great place to research for jazz authenticity. Glad you enjoyed it. I did too. ;-)

@karpdiem2 I use a barbera transducer system on my custom electric fiddle. sounds amazing. The basic sound from the pick ups is so clean, and is very well balanced unlike some others. I play that for rock/blues (run through some pedals) and some jazz.. I still have my acoustic, and use an AMT mic for that. Nothing really beats the miced acoustic sound.

Yes, she CAN PLAY the violin, indeed. Wonderful, swinging, and inventive. And Ray's bass sounded great also. Great trio, but that's what one would expect from the bassist that backed Oscar Peterson for so many years. He knows!!

Check out her competition and you'll see how totally awesome this is. A lot of jazz violinists sound really corny and can't swing, but she's got the bad-ass vibe and the technique to back it up. Oooh! she just broke a hair on her bow :)
