Its RAY CHARLES!! Nobody does this song better. From the gut of humility. If you walk in Ray's shoes, you realize that singing a song about your love for the State of Georgia ... really makes you appreciate the gift -- of forgiveness!

If there just could be one entertainer nowadays who could put his soul in a song like Mr. Charles did. But there isn't, I guess that's why this man was such a genius. You just got to love it.

God bless you. I remember feeling the same way . I remember seeing Stevie Wonder win a Grammy when i was just about 11 or 12 and I remember crying because I was so sad that he couldn't see all of the people who loved him. I was so naive about bigotry and ignorance and I remember telling my parents that night that if I died would they please see to it that Stevie got my eyes so he could see all of the people who loved him and his music...my parents were less than enthusiastic about my request.

Ray Charles is larger than live... not a person anymore, more like a demi-god. Just saw the documentary 'Genius', that especially gives attention to the latter years. I know the man had his darkside... but he's music in it's purest form. It got me cryin... And the fact that Elton John is feeling very special because he's the last one 2 ever sing and/or record with Ray... I loved it, he made people feel special till the last song he sung.

"Georgia on My Mind" is a song written in 1930 by Hoagy Carmichael (music) and Stuart Gorrell (lyrics). It is the official state song of the U.S. state of Georgia. Gorrell wrote the lyrics for Hoagy's sister, Georgia Carmichael.[

If you think Ray is singin' about a piece of land here, you're tone deaf! This may be his most sensual, wanton, tomcat version for that temptress Georgia (Hoagy Carmichael's sister) that he ever did. Once that silly backup band gets out of the way at about 3 1/2 minutes, it's Ray's a capella and piano arpeggios, together with the bass and hammond organ in the backround that tell you all about how we men get caught up in desire. This is earthy, "blueballs" stuff! ;-)
