When I saw Cokes the first time, my english was just some 7th grade english (which means, I just learned „my name is, I live in, dog, cat, star“) But as I liked this crazy dude, I watched it, whenever possible. I guess, he's my english-teacher.

I was hitting 13 when I got MTV Europe and each evening I was utterly glued to it. Most Wanted's, rock an' roll attitude and madcap spontaneous approach was groundbreaking stuff and being a young teen, it was an exciting show to watch and know that the whole of Europe was looking at it with you. Ray Cokes was fantastic and I love clips like this bringing it all back home to me.

I remember the first night I got satellite TV, I was flicking around my new channels and happened across some bloke in front of a massive fish tank, gurning at the camera and introducing videos - I was immediately enthralled. Shortly after, it became Most Wanted, almost a proper show on a sofa in front of a blue brick wall with actual guests. Then it was the "hotel" imperial phase with Naughty Nina, Pathetic Pat, Club Bed etc. And finally X-Ray Vision. I remember tuning in one week, having missed the previous week, and them announcing out of nowhere that it was the last episode ever. A strange, sad end to an amazing journey.

In 1988 I started living together in Amsterdam, I was 18. It also meant I finally got to see MTV....not available in the town I lived before.. So that meant seeing this legend, Ray Cokes. And when he teamed up with Marcel Vanthilt it was even more magic. Great memories!

I remember when i got my own TV back then, it looked like a cube and the sound was terrible. Then i discovered scart cables and the possibility to connect the TV with my stereo system. This was when MTV Europe/UK has been on peak! Oh, maybe some outhere can imagine how satisfied me little austrian boy had been! The greatest of music, the coolest shows, best way to learn english. Still, aged 46, i am so proud and thankful of this great times! What a wonderful youth! 🤩

Just realised I was 11 when this went off the air, and I had already been watching for a while by then. Such good times, though. Pan-european MTV was the best, along with 'The Children's Channel', though I suppose it was all a bit to Anglo-centric the other proud language markets off Europe. No complaints from Norway though!
