I’ve always said that Dalio is not fuelled by greed. He’s fuelled by the desire to have a deeper understanding of markets and the world. He is committed to seeing the world for what it is. If he sees a difference in culture then he observers it, doesn’t judge it. Doesn’t say it’s better or worse, it just is.

What Ray said about cultural difference between East and west (family vs individual) is very real and it manifests in many aspects of our ways of doing things and conducting ourselves. It also points to the fundamental difference in citizen expectations of their government as well as expectations of individual.

When Ray Dalio says "diversify" in terms of the 2 large economies even. Does it mean putting some investments in Chinese companies such as BABA, BIDU but still via US Stock exchanges? I mean how else (as Americans) can we invest in the Chinese businesses?
@hayden17702 жыл бұрын
You'll need a prime brokerage account from Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, etc in order to get shares on mainland Chinese stock exchanges. These services are only available for large investment firms (hedge funds, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, etc). The average little guy investor like me will have to buy ADRs or get shares on Hong Kong's stock market from certain retail brokerages like Charles Schwab for relatively high commission fees. I did some research by calling up a number of different brokerages and this is what I got.

The issue with redistribution is that if it reaches down into mom and pop small business it dissuades people from opening them. This in turn depresses innovation and many great ideas never make it out of the garage. Free societies tend to invent more amazing things than controlled ones, Financial repression and wealth distribution depress innovation.
@sivi97413 жыл бұрын
The real economy is what matters , not the financial ones … I mean look at the past 40 years ? Looking at it today from 3 gigantic bubbles (stocks,bonds, real estate) , what does that do for the bottom 80% of the population ? Poverty …. can’t you see that? The workers with redistribution 40+years ago , had a much better pay and financial market had less profits . (Higher taxes) . But how was life back then ? 1 working familly member was enough to provide the whole family! Today’s you need the 2 parents to work even with 1 child only …. Paper money and financial wealth means nothing when that wealth do not reach 80% of its population . What more proofs then the velocity of money is needed to acknowledge that ? Too much Wealth concentration kills its economy …. Money stop being productive for The real economy because the market become more profitable (bubbles) then the real economy and so it just create more paper money , instead of investing in jobs ( and for the rare occasion they do invest , it’s jobs created overseas …China ? ) and create wealth for the entire economy Meaning the real economy . Velocity of money dies and look where it is today ….. It’s exactly what ray says about China . They are leaded by pragmatism and they are successful because they see by empirical evidences that capitalism is the best way to make money . so they introduce it even tho it seems it goes against their ideology…. Something the right should start looking at . Follow the money .

doesnt a democratic capitalist society do the same thing? please save the high moral ground, the US invaded the middle east dropped bombs for a decade and destabilized entire countries. Theyre both bad!

Which period/type/brand of communism are you talking about? This is like saying Christianity was doomed to fail because the Roman authorities suppressed it until the 4th century.

Not if you trust the people in charge. Capitalism incentivizes corruption from the bottom up and the top down simultaneously, as opposed to communism is only top down at worst.

"ray is a scammer and hugely overestimated" I think the word you were looking for is "overrated" because people can't be "overestimated". I know, I know, it's difficult with the big words when you didn't finish high school. But thanks for your intellectual contribution.
