Billionaire investor Ray Dalio is warning about a 34 trillion dollar debt fueled tsunami that is about to strike the US economy. With each passing second, this storm is getting larger and larger, making it even more painful when it finally does hit. The fallout of which will likely be felt for generations.
With each passing second, the US national debt grows. Adding fuel to the potential debt crisis Dalio mentioned in that clip. However, until relatively recently, this hasn’t mattered much. But according to Ray Dalio, things are now finally starting to change. Here’s why.
For the better part of the last 100 years, US government bonds have been considered by many the safest investment in the entire world. The US economy is absolutely massive, and the country is home to many of the largest companies on the planet. This dynamic provided protection in the eyes of investors. The thought being that if you lent money to the US government, you didn’t have to worry about whether or not you were going to get paid back. As the taxing authority of the world’s largest economy, if the US government ever ran into trouble, it could simply raise taxes and use that money to pay back borrowers.
Because of this, US government bonds have been viewed by investors and the finance community as the only truly quote unquote “risk free” investment that exists. This commonly accepted belief has led to US government bonds being extremely popular investments for everyone from individual investors, to pension funds, to banks, and even other countries. The supply of investor money wanting to purchase government bonds has consistently exceeded how much money the government has needed to borrow. As a result, borrowing money has always been relatively cheap for the US government. However, that dynamic may finally be starting to change. The ripple effects of which would be felt throughout the world.

I speak with a lot of people around the globe - my work was related with traveling to manufacturing plants across EU, US, Middle East and Asia for 20 years between 2001 and 2021. We discuss sometimes what is happening in USA for these two decades - and our personal observations (empirical - let’s put politics aside) are universally in accord that life for the middle class there has become gradually stiffer and less abundant over these years wit a clear trend downward. Frankly - I’m from Eastern Europe and USA doesn’t seem the “rich and abundant” place to live anymore (not gonna even touch the crime issues) like it was in the 90s. So, the writing is on the wall - and unless leadership drastically changes, huge crisis is about to come sooner or later.

What America spends on what you call "foreign nations" is an investment. It is not free. To stop such investment also means benefits will dry up for the US, as nations will rearrange their affairs, as suits them. They may even welcome it. Do your homework and read up on the malign impact of America's economic hitmen around the world. What you need to focus on instead is the one trillion+ racket called annual defense budget. Ignorance and propaganda will do this country faster than anything you worry about. You can bet on it.

Unfortunately, those who know the least about the issue are the most confident in their knowledge. And this is not a quote from a popular public page, but the harsh truth of the Dunning-Kruger effect. The more qualified and professional we become in any field, the more we realize how incompetent we are and how much we still have to grow. Sometimes it's inspiring, and sometimes it's depressing. PS. That money printing ability has reduced the value of the dollar within the US. And brought Americans , inflation. The only factor softening the blow has been the demand for dollars abroad. Otherwise Americans would have an Argentinian inflation to tackle. And let’s not forget , there are only so many countries like Argentina keeping the demand high. Shit kicking countries with meaningless economic impact. The others , with economic weight to be reckoned with, are clearly looking to wean away from the Dollar. And no, the Brics ain’t the answer for a new legal currency. Foreign Trade settlement , which is arbitraged in dollars nowadays , will find new ways to work. Maybe some bartering. Oh, and by the way, the much heralded inflation rate , it is meaningless. The real cost of living is what consumers experiment, and the numbers you are given through the media , well those are fudged.

The Pollyanna ending is not practical. Debt rolls downhill like a snowball -- growing larger and then even larger. Also, the US doesn't have the moral fiber as it did in the 1950s. If you doubt what I'm writing, just look at Venezuela before the dollar adoption and say "Hey, they could just grow out of their debt!" It's a silly statement for them and for us too. Perhaps we could've "grown out" our debt in 1980s or 90s, but not now, with a trillion plus a year deficits.

Obviously the math is bad. 34 trillion in debt most on the world by an exponential amount . 1 trillion in the last 3 months. Add that to the world’s largest trade deficit by an exponential amount. Basically an economic basket case. The only thing we have going for us is we are the reserve currency and can print money. >Since that speech by President Nixon in August of 1971 the US dollar to Gold link has been severed. This allowed US Federal Governments to spend in huge deficits each year since then except for a brief period in the mid-nineties. The effect of this has been that the US dollar has continually been devalued. A US dollar today is worth about three cents compared with a US dollar of the 1971, a factor of roughly thirty times. >This devaluation of the US dollar is the real source of inflation. The reason is simple: it takes more of these devalued dollars to buy anything. The factor is clearly, again, is thirty times. Look at the prices of things in 1971 and today. Just about everything is more expensive by a factor of thirty times. The increase in prices is simply the reaction to this devaluation of the dollar. Wages and salaries have not kept pace with this. >The bottom line is that over eighty percent of all new wealth created since 1971 has ended up in the hands of one percent of the population, offshore and not taxes. The Federal government has replaced that lost taxation with public debt. In 1971 it was possible to purchase a very modest home for $10,000 but today that same house costs $300,000. More to the point: in 1971 a single family income could buy that house, whereas, today it takes two household incomes plus debt to support a family income. Thank you for reading. Please comment.

There will be no growing out of this debt for one very simple reason, energy. The US was able to spend like crazy for the last 12-15 years due to oil and gas production growth. Now those days will soon end and this debt issue does not end well.

Over 40% of everything you pay the IRS goes to just pay the interest on the Federal Debt. Literally down a black hole. The reason they say it's 11 % is because MORE money is available through debt itself masking the problem. It's like saying "I don't owe $10,000 because I intend on borrowing $9,000" pfft.

The FED will also come in as a buyer, also mush of this debt is owned by the FED already, the market accept this, the dollar is still relatively strong still. As long as you can increase production efficiency aka growing GDP you are fine with the FED buying bonds aka "printing money".

📝 Summary of Key Points: 📌 Ray Dalio warns of a potential debt crisis in the US economy due to an imbalance between the supply and demand of debt. 🧐 The US government may face a shortage of buyers for its debt, leading to higher borrowing costs and potential consequences for the country and its citizens. 🚀 The US government has two options to address the increasing debt: cutting back spending or raising taxes, both of which could have negative economic consequences. 🚀 Economic growth could be a solution to the debt problem, as it would decrease the debt-to-GDP ratio over time. 💡 Additional Insights and Observations: 💬 "There is a large amount of debt that needs to be bought, but there may not be enough buyers." 📊 The US national debt has grown to $34 trillion. 🌐 Ray Dalio is a billionaire investor and founder of Bridgewater Associates. 📣 Concluding Remarks: Ray Dalio's warning about a potential debt crisis in the US economy highlights the imbalance between the supply and demand of debt. The government's options to address the increasing debt are challenging, and economic growth may be the key to reducing the debt burden over time. Generated using TalkBud

One thing to consider is Dalio is one of the wealthiest people on earth, he has zero interest in explaining to the masses what is really happening. Ray has a significant interest in scaring you into thinking austerity is the answer to the problem, there is a certain amount of US currency in the market, people like Dalio, Bezos and Musk hold significant percentages of this currency. If Ray wants to shrink the debt he should support a tax on people like himself. Maybe he could just donate to a charity. Since money was invented individuals with money have been scaring and threatening the ones without money.

Thank you very much for the Video, Most people can deal with debt (people who have backup for their debt)while most people can't deal with it. The country is built on debt for herself and citizens, making its citizens' essential needs expensive and can only be afforded by debt (For example, Medical and College). This is why every citizen must go into investment as a support income, all to be debt-free

The debt to GDP ratio is the key. But how can you increase production with higher interest rates needed to control inflation? One way out of this problem is to reduce spending (eg. Stop giving our money away, especially to foreign interests like Ukraine) and to increase production through lower corporate taxes and other incentives that encourage corporate repatriation and reinvestment (i.e. machinery and equipment).

30 years ago, economists predicted China economy will crash but they had no recession for 30 years. Finally, in 2023 we saw their 1st recession. US cannot keep increasing the debt ceiling. It will eventually face the consequence. Maybe 10 or 20 years time.

It seems to me that the United States made a great effort to increase its area of influence in Eastern Europe, but in the process they made so many geopolitical mistakes that they lost political and economic leadership throughout the world. Its unipolar pride is the real reason other nations join together and seek to move away from the dollar. This is a new fact, but it may also be parallel to the cycle gap mentioned by Mr. Dalio. Bad things are never done in a single plan, it is necessary to make mistakes in multiple sectors, for a long time, to manage to ruin a country so prosperous with the United States... from Reagan to now, each government has done its part...
