This is a great example of the classic theater device called "Dom Ex Machina"

Lets just put it this way. Anything with Dom DeLuise automatically becomes awesome. This was most certainly a product of the 80's and it shows.

Here because of The Guardian article ranking this as one of the most bizarre performances in Oscar history, and I’m not disappointed 👍

I'm so impressed the Academy let a performance run through more than six minutes! Nowadays all songs have to be cut short if they pass the 2' mark!
@ZergRushJohnny3 жыл бұрын
How do you perform a song faster and still double its length? Whatever the hell this is, I guess.

More like... "I finally found the inspiration for my batman video when i inevitably get asked to do songs for the soundtrack." Prince was no stranger to cringy bizarre things.

The blue "Ghostbusters" missing their cue was the best part.

I'm wondering why the four originals didn't appear there. That would be awesome!

I still clearly remember that part (at the end of the song) when Dom DeLuise appears even 33 years later (for I actually watched it when it was broadcast on the evening of Monday, March 25, 1985).

So, typical production number for a '70s era variety show. ...Wait, this was in 1985?

I was only six at the time, but I can confirm it was cringeworthy back then. Now, it's just rotated around to spectacular.

No, it wasn't cool in the 80's. This was a big wtf moment.

This performance is possibly what cost them the Oscar (which Ray Parker Jr had fully deserved). It's fun to see Dom Deluise channeling his old Blazing Saddles dance routines in a Count Dracula cape but this is camper than a Rob Lowe duet with Snow White! An absolutely terrible version of the song too to make Fall Out Boy sleep well at night. You know your in deep shit when your baffling the heck out of Prince sitting in that audience lol

Ray Parker Jr looks embarassed at times by this . I am a grown man forced to sing along with these idiots dancing like fools? Almost as bad as the Ann Reinking performance of Against All Odds which has to be the worst ever performance of a good song at the oscars.

The dancing ghosts are great but the instrumental was so crap, the "ghostbusters" weren't even dressed like the characters in the film, and WTF was Dom DeLuise doing at the end?? I mean, I like Dom Deluise, but this was so random...

Worst (and probably most expensive) production number EVER at The Oscars (yes, over Snow White). I remember being horrified at the time. Take a one line song and stretch it out for SIX AWFUL MINUTES! I love that they even got the leads costumes wrong. And the moment where every one is waiting for something to come out of the wall and nothing does. Just horror after horror, with stupid ghosts.
