I have loved all of my dogs over the years, but i became somewhat obsessed over my German Shepherds. Of course I immediately felll in love with Ray from the 1st moments of this video. My GSD's were males, and extremely confident. 8 years ago, I adopted an anxiety ridden Pointer/ Labrador and had to learn everything I could to help alleviate that anxiety so that she could live a happy life. Ray seemed to embody a close combination of my shepherds and my current girl-- I was pretty close to reaching out to you to request a possible adoption. I'm so glad you're keeping her, after I saw her running on the beach, a slice of heaven, and when you said she still presents anxiety when meeting new people-- why subject her to that, when she's come such a long way with you, and looks so happy. Thank you for being her family-- so glad she lucked out!!!

What came to my mind when you said how she had been found was that she and the Anatolian had chased off the dogs attacking the little one that was killed. Ray did not kill the small dog because both dogs would have been found in "hunt mode" and possibly covered in blood. She is also timid around other dogs which suggest trauma rather than feral behaviour. I am very glad you give Ray her peaceful time. You could see in her eyes she needs to feel safe and she does. Well done Asher House, you should be proud of following your instincts and reading the needs of the animals in your care. There is more to it than food, water and shelter and you have the extra something to give.

Best dog I ever had was a German Shepherd. I still grieve for her. She was so easy to train, obedient, loyal and absolutely wonderful with my children. I have had dogs all my life and have 2 rescues at present, and much as I love them, none will ever match my GS.

I had two GSD and lost one to a car accident and the second to cancer. The first one wasn't my dog so the loss wasn't as devastating. I lost my father within 45 days of my beloved dog and I swear it was harder losing my dog. It is just different. She died so unexpectedly. We should have them forever, they are so special. ❤🐾

Same here- I was Sunshine’s fourth owner in her first 10 mos of life- first tied her outside and left her in July heat, no food/water and outside for fireworks. She had a lot of issues and it certainly wasn’t always easy but she was my best dog ever. She died 4 years ago and I miss her every day

Tony's rescue was the first of your videos that I ever watched. It was always my habit to go to the shelter and take whoever had been there the longest. Years ago I adopted a sweet shepherd girl that had been at a high kill shelter for almost 2 months. Nobody wanted her because she was shy and didn't interact with people, but she was sooo beautiful and had a longish collie type coat. I knew that if I didn't take her she would be put down. She was one of the bestest girls ever! Sweet and gentle with all other animals and very well behaved. She turned out to be pretty cross-eyed and would look at me sideways from a distance. She developed cancer at 10 years old and I miss her so much to this day. I miss Tony too. Bless you Lee!

She is the most beautiful girl! It makes me so sad that if you had not found her she would’ve been put down. I hate that so many people are afraid of all black dogs. When I saw my Sephie (all black lab/retriever mix) on the website I knew she was mine. When I called I was told not one person had shown interest in her for nearly 7 months. She was only a year old when I got her. She has the most beautiful eyes. She, like Ray had a lot of anxiety, and she had been traumatized when two older dogs attacked her in play group, she was being bullied and they took her out of the situation, which left her alone a lot and afraid. We’ve been together for 3 yrs now and she is so beautiful. She trains really well inside, she still struggles with anxiety outside and other animals, but she’s getting better everyday. It just takes love and patience. I wish more people could how amazing Ray and my Sephie are. They just needed someone to take a chance on them. I’m so glad that Ray has her forever home and will be safe on the sanctuary for years to come. What you do Lee is so beautiful, I wish I had more to donate. I’m a single mom to Sephie and a young boy with autism and is nonverbal. I also have an autoimmune disease that has put me in GI failure. Sephie is so sweet and I tuned with me when I’m having a rough day physically she never leaves my side. And, my son has loved her so much he even added two words to his list, he calls her “Good girl” because he doesn’t have the S sound yet. I pray more people can see the beauty in these babies that have trauma, that want a family to love, and love them because they are with the extra time.

You've got that special Bond with Ray. All the Dogs at the Asher House are special but just like Humans every now and then one comes along that for whatever reason 'it clicks' and when it does that Bond is forever. Ray is your Rock and you are Hers.

I don't think, they killed the dog. I think this dog was sick and died or got into an accident and those two went there. People think always first badly, which is to sad. She is special, so beautiful. Thanks for taking her ❤ Greetings from Germany 🐕🐶

Ray loves Lee so very much. In videos, you usually see Ray walking right behind Lee. It would have destroyed Ray's heart and newfound trust if Lee had adopted her out. Thank God Lee said she is going to be his dog now and forever. I have always prayed Lee would always keep her since she came to the sanctuary. That is her home and where Ray belongs always.

Such a heartwarming nice ending to what could have been death for the dog but you saved her. I wish my dogs could be off leash and would listen. They would until if there was another dog forget it. I have five rescues all different kinds I have a pit I have a shepherd blend I have a Chihuahua blend I have a red heeler and a kelpie. Ray looks exactly like my Dakota :) I rescued Dakota January of 2020. She was a birthday gift to myself. After choosing her, I realized her shelter number was 272. It was faith, my birthday is 2/2/72. In 2023 I decided to rescue another German Shepherd to give Dakota a friend since my old Shepherd Bella is 13 and no longer can be active and play. Dakota has a lot of anxiety and by new Beckham helper transformed her. They are remarkable dogs. I'm so happy you are keeping her.

I've seen similar situations with our county shelter dogs. They find loose dogs with another dead animal & assume they killed that animal. Sometimes it's true & sometimes it's not, but the humans make assumptions & the dog pays the price. I'm glad you're giving her a chance. She deserves it!!!!❤❤

I adopted a husky gsd mix several years ago. She's just so loyal and amazing. Fostered a Senior gsd last year and he got to find his furever home in time for the holidays. I plan on adopting a gsd next soon!
