Haken is the most underrated prog band in the world
@alkabukodikcisszel87234 жыл бұрын
They are a contender for my favorite band but there are much lesser known great prog bands, I feel like I can keep discovering this genre my whole lifetime and still find new gems. The 2008 demo is criminally underrated though, their 2nd best album in my opinion
@dansourile54444 жыл бұрын
They are constantly hailed one of the best in the genre... I don't think they're underrated at all, haha. I adore them, and I feel they're very heavily praised (as they should be!).

Got dayum! I knew just by listening to his playing that he was remarkable, but *seeing* him play... This dude has to be the most creative drummer I've seen since Zappa-era. The orchestration is INSANE! Nevermind the limb independence, dynamics, discipline, and just fucking tasty sounding grooves too. My new favorite drummer 🙌

This band is amazing, but as far as I'm concerned, the drummer is the strongest part of the band. He not only nails every song, he adds details that I hear no-one does. In this song, the part from 0:42-1:05, where he approaches the bit at 0:45 as a 5/4 beat blows my mind. It shows his amazing craftsmanship and vision. As a bassist, I'm a big fan.

This song is all yours man, of course the other's instrument composition is pretty nice and unique, but your drumming approach ties up a full masterpiece. Those 80's drum sounds on the e-pad fills the space of that part in a very contextual way, looking forward to play it in my own kit. Bravo!

Funny how after watching his newer playthrough, you see how his level has continued improving. However, I personally like the more raw, "rock'n roll" energy in this song as opposed to newer ones, where it's sometimes a little too "out there" for my tastes.

Watching other promotional videos, like MEINL's or SONOR's stuff, it is beyond my grasp how anyone can think this is amazing. For instance, where tf is the snare bottom mic pointing at? Kudos for not overproducing it but man it's just sloppy af.
@sahnebaum6 жыл бұрын
I get it... if you have low standards. Sloppy playing + worst snare drum sound ever + overall shitty video and audio production quality = product promotion level over 9000!
@saneksin5 жыл бұрын
for a while there's been an issue with Ray's playing, sometimes he simplifies his live parts in comparison with album ones. however, I don't understand what kind of sloppiness you're talking about. audio sounds a bit weird because, firstly, it's a drum playthrough, so drums have higher overall sound, secondly, he's playing over a drumless final mix of a song which ended up being on the recording, so there are really no possibilities to improve something in terms of the sound of other instruments (and I really don't think that anything should be improved in this video)
@sahnebaum5 жыл бұрын
@@saneksin he's rushing tempo multiple times and that freaks me out, which also happens live and that's annoying AF. Mixing drums louder than the rest of the band in a drum company's promotional video is okay and not what I was addressing with my criticism. The drumkit itself is mixed poorly and I can't understand how a drum company can approve of such a bad drum-mix and upload it. I'm sorry but you can't fail to hear that... go and watch some Sonor or Meinl stuff and compare - their videos = sold. Strangely enough, all sonor/meinl endorsees are able to at least keep up to tempo.
@robertocamposgiesemann41394 жыл бұрын
@@saneksin I don't know what "issue" you may be referring to, but Ray's playing seems perfectly fine on stage and I don't really think he's simplifying things live. Even if he were, it would be understandable considering their shows are quite long and consume s great deal of stamina.
