Ray Kennedy was converted by Bob Paisley from a striker to a left sided midfielder and is a Liverpool legend.
Maybe Ray's stay at Liverpool would have been only a brief one had it not been for a master-stroke by the astute Bob Paisley when, half-way through the 1975-76 season, he asked the forward to play on the left side of midfield instead.
By the end of the year, Ray had made the No.5 shirt his own and added Championship and UEFA Cup winners' medals to the haul he already had from his Arsenal days.
For the next five seasons, he was a regular in the side and enjoyed unparalleled success as Liverpool dominated domestic and European football.

Meet Ray Kennedy in Southport. he waited while I found a piece of paper for his autograph, with time and grace just how he played his Football. A true great. Should have played more for England.

R.i.P. Ray! In April 1981, 13 years old, i visit Olympic Stadium Munich (78.000 spectators) to celebrate Bayern's victory at the semifinal re-match against LFC and reaching Eurocup-Final again after 5 years. After a 0-0 draw at Anfield, Bayern were in good hope. 7 minutes before the final whistle, Ray destroys our dream of an European Cup-winner Bayern with his away- goal, kick us out (Rummenigge's equalizer comes too late) and left the city back in sadness and agony this night. 5 weeks later, LFC-Team accomplished its mission like so many times, they beat Real Madrid 1-0 at Paris. By the way, another hero of this match was last year passing goalkeeper Ray Clemence. Never forget this evening. Great symphaty to all Liverpudlians from a Bayern Munich supporter.

I’m a West Ham fan and Ray Kennedy was an all round great player with a sweet left foot, a canny football brain & a joy to watch. Life dealt him a great hand to play in that Liverpool team but his later years he didn’t deserve. Those that know great players were blessed to watch him and he was a driving force in that dominant Liverpool Era 🙏

Many people talk about how tough Souness and Case was, well no-one messed with Ray Kennedy. Not on or off the field. A big and very strong man, who knew how to look after himself. And on top of it all he was a superb footballer. One of the best players of the 70's.

I posted 11 days ago. But what a fuckin’ fitbaw player. Absolutely peerless. I’m 60 and he’s still one of my favourite ever fitbaw players. I get goosebumps when I watch him. Complete player. Runs the engine room, scores, defends, chases you couldn’t ask for a better example for these young players to watch today.

Big strong Ray was a legend. Fearless and fearsome. Graeme Souness once said the sheer size of him put fear into opponents. And what skill! He would definitely be in my all-time greatest Liverpool XI. People rave about Gerrard, but Ray was in a different class.

Some great players do class things but don't like the other side of the game, Cristiano Ronaldo the perfect example. Ray. Kennedy in his prime would be perfect for a klopp side because of his football intelligence and like every player in that great Liverpool team of 70 they worked like mad. Imagine these players with today's sport science, the warm down back then was a few pints and a fish and chips or a Chinese takeaway. RIP Ray Kennedy YNWA JFT97

Really sad news , was quite disgusted when I heard he had to sell his medals to fight Parkinson’s desease..You only have to look at Rob burrows to see we wouldn’t have let that happen cos we look after our own...I know the players were not as rich them but surely after all those special European nights the club would have stepped in...Rip lad, Leeds fan🇬🇧
