@ClayMann6 жыл бұрын
I think Ray is on record as saying we have a 50/50 chance of coming out the other side of AI and the singularity. And he's the optimist. But its not like anyone could regulate this. You put police in every building in the USA and they'll make the AI in China. You try and track for big projects and they'll splinter them so they can't be detected from space (the 100,000's of servers it would take is hard to hide) Whatever we do in the best interests of humanity, someone else will ignore those safe guards to win the arms race for control of AI. He who controls the spice, controls the universe and all that. Worst case scenario. All life on Earth is wiped out and machine life eventually evolves off out into space to colonize the universe with thinking machines. They're kinda built for deep space travel to start with. Almost makes sense in a horrific way.

Yep. People have no idea about their own fragility and that of the species as a whole. Being smart only makes you able to outsmart and out-compete species less smart than you. That same sentence applies to beings smarter than us, i.e. where we are the less smart ones. The idea of "control" in that scenario is laughable.
@MrJosh68896 жыл бұрын
Elon addressed the general public's unwillingness to appropriately respond to the risk of AI. Sam Harris is outspoken in this regard as well. I think Elon said it best though when he said that people are unwilling to believe that a computer can be smarter than they are, despite us having proven that again and again in the narrow sense. It's inevitable that it will arrive in the general sense. It's inevitable that it will outgrow human cognition in a remarkably short amount of time. I just don't know how you could not be worried about the control problem, unless it's something you've failed to give any amount of thought to. My fear is not that general AI will go uncontrolled, but that it will be controlled by a malevolent force. Or perhaps simply having that control will transform whoever controls it first into malevolence. Maybe I've just read too many dystopian novels, but I can't help but expect that it will be used for mass subjugation, taking even more power away from the general public and putting it into the hands of an oligarchical few.
@thomashead-rapson8116 жыл бұрын
MrJay6889 Excellent comment. Either scenario is bad. Maybe that is the real danger; the ratio of the possible ways AGI could go badly for humanity compared to those where it could go well seems alarming large to me. To many bad outcomes to calculate, nevermind prepare for.

Consciousness means being aware of itself, so don't see much of a problem determine that, but more so when detecting it. Also, as laws of nature are what they are, doesn't mean that the universe is a computer, but "just' an infinite space with certain laws that materia follows etc. interact i.e. what kind of properties materia has. These properties might be binded to certain time & space. So, there is a possibility for infinite number of laws of nature. One way to rationalise this, is to imagine infinite materia, thus infinite layers of hierarchies(which of those we can detect few today, sub-nucleus, atom, molecule up to visible expanding universe and a set of different attractions/laws that materia follows in different hierarchies. This might apply to infinity as well). This interaction has of course never started i.e. must have certain balance(explosions being one relevant feature of that balance), but been happening for ever & will continue to happen(the universe does not dye, even we as a species very well might do so). We exist in an infinite space where unknown amount of materia has certain properties. There can not be an original creator for universe hence can't rationally argue universe to be a computer, but only to that extent, that it has certain properties and also similarities with the concept "computer". Because there is no beginning and we do exist at least at some 'level’((plus we have created AI i.e. there is already analogy to conscious creature creating other coscious(almost) creature )), there have had(minimum assuming limited amount of materia, if infinite amount, then infinite amount of intelligent 'life' existing simultaneously) existed infinite amount of conscious creatures created both by conscious creature and just formed without(ouh, maybe not possible, because if there is a change that such a creature can exist with can be aware of everything and have an absolute control over that specific matter). We have to become more serious about not to go extinct for ex. we know so few things/our understanding is so limited.

This was a great example of why SJ nonsense is dangerous, extremely shortsighted and ignorant to any lesson learned. Of coarse you train out Bias as best you can around input/output.. Still though there is danger in this sense too, like who gets to decide to tell it what is and isn't (like she actually wants too.) She meant "THEIR" definition of Bias lol. Its like a red flag that's impossible to miss, yet they miss it LOL. Injecting that ideology would be the very reason they would destroy us w/o question LOL. And then the diversity LOL (I bet this was killing Ray inside - they do the same BS with Musk now; trying to rope them into their nonsense.) yeah last thing we want is idiots who were picked by skin color (the irony in that alone) making errors because their quality/ability is lower - standard - generic- and not deserving of such sensitive endeavor, that couple us all out.. Oh but the color of skin being equal in the room will surly save humanity from this! lol. Its like they will carebear stare at the moment of a bad outcome, and they think it will actually work. While we become another galactic race checked off the map.

I love him, but don't trust his optimism on AI becase he works at Google, the clear leader in AI and most likely to reach world changing AI before anyone else. Imagine a computer that underatands the world just as well as an average human. Then imagine that a week after that, it will accomplish 20,000 years of human level intellectual labor. Even if we don't get general AI, a narrow stock trading AI could make the AI owner richer and more powerful than any nation

Unless you are VERY careful that would be the same as mob rule. He agrees with Elon. He just doesn't like to dwell on the negative. Read his books and he talks openly about the dangers. I forget the exact lines but I remember in one of his books he worked out we had roughly a 50/50 chance of survival past the singularity. But he doesn't get up on stage and make noise about that. He does what scientists and engineers do. He wrote about it, published the data and tried to get more minds involved in trying to keep us safe. Elon has done the same kinds of things. Invested in AI himself to try and steer it in the right direction. Elon hasn't banned AI from his life and career because of how dangerous it is. I see them both holding the same view, they just come out at differently as we'd expect wildly diverse human beings to do.
@ozmuzo7396 жыл бұрын
Are you serious? Or are you one of those mindless fanboys who basically just watch KZbin videos. While Elon is a brilliant man, Ray invented things like Scanners and Synthesizers when there where no concepts of these. The only real invention that Elon had was PayPal ...
