+Felipe Frota From the legal standpoint, I can understand how that will put the NFL in hot water. However, one can derive from their own intuition that there is no way you can be so naive and believe that you will be unharmed. The NFL can tell you pads and helmets and shit will keep you safe, but these players see the brutal hits from their own two eyes. They see the affects of these collisions upon the players. Honestly, I don't really know the whole story behind the law suits, but it amazes how the NFL sold this lie to the players.

However, the part that I don't really agree with is that this is all there is to it. It's not just a matter of a conscious decision, but safety equipment. The league should DEFINITELY invest in better equipment and it should go all the way down to the younger age groups.
@Akselisinitalo8 жыл бұрын
+ozpowermo very true, I think the players (if they are fully in the know) about the effects of concussion then it's there choice if they play or not, it's about making the game safer without loosing big hits which means better equipment, I like what they've done with the doctor on the sideline etc
@ozpowermo8 жыл бұрын
ThatGuyAce There are other options too: increasing the player roster, having better medical procedures for detecting on-field concussions and not letting players continue playing with a concussion, etc.

Helmets can only go so far to protect you, players have to tackle the right way, but if you have played you know nothing is perfect you can have the right form and the other player can dip down and then it's helmet to helmet. They sign up to play football in the NFL players know what could happen
@jayjohnson818 жыл бұрын
the point being made is simple , this is what you signed up for and there is a trade off. the question should be is the risk worth the reward ?
@MrLarryLessor5 жыл бұрын
No - the NFL wasn't being honest about the effects - they didn't want to admit the scientific evidence that doctor's (MDs) presented to them. They asked those doctors to retract their formal publications/documents - the NFL denied and did not want to admit for decades.... So the "trade off" was not an honest or fair trade off - the players were not told openly and honestly what is going on in football to your body. So if, going into the league, you were not told what could happen - it's dishonest to say now after the career/ after the fact "well you made the choice - you took the risk". The NFL has to be truthful and concerned about the players - including the former players from 40, 30 years ago etc. Ray is wrong - I love his spirit - but the Seattle Seahawks just lost a few excellent players due to neck injuries etc. They teach "Rugby" style tackling that is the new safer way... kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX3PlZ17a9upfNU

I understand where Ray is coming from. The game is rooted in tradition and he is a bit of a purist. He was alluding to the fact that players are being held accountable (ejections, suspensions, etc) but the NFL themselves have not been held accountable for trying to silence CTE research. Obviously I disagree with Ray but he's right about some of the hypocrisy coming from the league.
@drewc85347 жыл бұрын
This is such a double-edged sword of an issue. I agree with Ray Lewis 100 percent, but where I have a direct problem is when the league tries to change the rules of the game essentially by supposedly protecting the players. SMH. Rule changes are not going to reduce concussions as long as you're playing a contact sport. All it's going to do is reduce the quality of the game. Plain and simply, if you don't want to get hurt, don't play. There is no "rule" or set of "rules" that's going to protect players. It's impossible.

Ray Lewis is right. You play baseball and you get hit by the ball, you can't complain. You compete in MMA or Boxing and get a concussion, can't complain. Literally the Football helmets say there is still a risk for head injury.

Ya'll are trying really hard to pick apart Ray's speech. Everything he said was spoken well. And he's right, the NFL was formerly run by men. Now it's bullshit penalties for just about everything. Celebrate too much? that's a penalty, took your helmet off? that's a paddlin'. The defenders aren't always allowed to do their job anymore. Now the defense has to worry more about not tackling "too hard", rather than stopping the other team from scoring. And if he does manage to stop the receiver, the referee can penalize the defender, and the opposing team gets the 1st down and is 15 yards closer anyways, if deemed a personal foul. Seriously? Why not just give them the game, and a trophy while you're at it. It wont be long where you could fake your injury like in soccer, so you could cheat your way into the endzone. The NFL in the future: Personal foul...Tackling the receiver...the result of the penalty...automatic, touchdown.

some people believe he was "given" parkinsons to humiliate this man that greatly contributed to shutting down the vietnam war, and who stood up to amerika the way he did. in his heyday, he couldn't be touched - in or out of the ring! what better way to silence politically charged athletes and entertainers than shut 'em down and make an example out of him... Players should get kicked out if they intentionally use there helmet as a force. You can lead with your shoulder and make initial contact with your shoulder into a guy's chest it isn't hard. When a player intentionally ducks their head into another players helmet that player is using the helmet as a weapon and therefor targeting. 100% agree with the targeting rule

What is it about facts and reality that you find disturbing? CTE is real and most NFL players will have it and some college and high school players as well. This is well documented at this point.

@@notbutta Nope. It's you that doesn't get it. Are you shilling for the NFL? And apparently 90% of ex players say they would play again even knowing what they know now. I was blown away by that. People would still have played given all the physical and mental health problems. Now players have no excuse that they didn't know the consequences. Oh well, we all live with the consequences of our decisions. Good to see more parents won't allow their kids to play though. That's hopeful.

@@brianwalsh1401 Yeah I work for the NFL you got me. Or you're just an idiot. You're blown away by people who play the game, who are telling you it's bs. It doesn't really get much clearer than that. @@notbutta At this point I'm not even sure what you are saying. Are you saying that CTE is not real and therefore there is no danger to players mental health? I highly recommend you watch Frontline "League of Denial". It's on youtube. It will tell you all you need to know. If you want your kids to play football that's up to you but I highly recommend you share with them the possible consequences and let them make their mind up. It’s August 2024 and I just watched some recently recorded video of Ray speaking with Peyton Manning. He sounds fine. I’m not saying he doesn’t have CTE. It seems like some guys give others CTE because they are bigger, stronger, whatever and other guys are more likely to get CTE when colliding with the first group of guys. Ray is a giver of CTE. Another giver was Dick Butkus. Just a theory I have from observing.
