Reardon the best all-round player of all-time. Consistency, temperament, potting, safety, creativity, longevity, tactical, mental strength, popularity, showmanship, charisma etc.....Reardon had no weak links in his game

He is 91 now and just knocked in a century break to become the oldest player to do so. Absolutely insane

Ray dominated the game as much by who and what he was, as the talent he had at snooker. You could see it whenever he played and it was what made him the champion he was. I've a suspicion that Ray was the only player that Alex really respected. The top players today have the talent but none of them carry the aura, self-possession, dignity and character of Ray in his prime. I'm really pleased that he made 80. Happy birthday Ray.

People say Alex Higgins 'made' snooker big in the 70s. Well, maybe. But he didn't do it on his own. I think people under-estimate the role Ray played in making the sport. And he remains a great ambassador even now.,

Both were giants and equally responsible for bringing the game to the people. Ray was the yin to Alex's yang. True entertainment.

Alex had clearly taken something to beat Ray in 82. He was dead before the interval.

Ray was the standard bearer, but it was really the TV show Pot Black, that was responsible for popularising the sport. Snooker never looked back after that.

Pot Black was the era that got me in to snooker; used to watch the show then immediately go and play on our little 6 x 3 table with the chipboard base.

We had 2 good cue’s on our 6ft table as kids in the mid 80s. Ray and Alex. Rays was ash and Alex was maple. I always used the Ray cue.

Ray Readon used to come to Southowram (a village above Halifax) when he played in the World Championship in Sheffield. I think someone in the village one of his old pals. As I recall, Ray's Rolls-Royce used to be parked outside the local pub.
