Classic footage. Two absolute warriors from a bygone era. Reardon was always Charlton’s nemesis in the World Championship - stopped him from winning 3 or 4 titles, much like what Hendry would later do to White. Charlton was a fierce competitor nonetheless. He was 52-years of age here and in a Crucible semi-final.

Poor Eddie could never beat ray in the big matches

Always thought 79 was Charltons last serious chance. Was 17/16 up against Griffiths with big leads in both the penultimate and final frame. Jawed a red with the half butt when 48/0 up. A Charlton Dennis Taylor final would have been very difficult to call
@chrisbland6942Ай бұрын
@@dlamissI feel quite certain Charlton would’ve buried Taylor by a similar score line as Griffiths did. Although Dennis had beaten Reardon earlier in the championship, Eddie was far superior in just about every department - break building, safety and match temperament. There would have been the question mark of course, of him getting over the line having never won it but, there too, was Dennis mentality ready to be world champion? I don’t honestly think so. He collapsed quite hopelessly on the final day.
@dlamissАй бұрын
@@chrisbland6942 Think thats a fair post and probably just about spot on. Taylor was actually 14/12 up on Griffiths going into the final 4 frames of the second day of the final.....I agree regarding your comment about Charlton getting over the line as he yes indeed would have been under immense pressure in the final had he beaten Griffiths knowing as I mentioned it was probably going to be his final realistic chance of winning it with all the younger players coming through etc...and he himself had been known to wobble more than once

@Joe Guitar I'm not saying Ray Reardon is better than Ronnie O'Sullivan, because Ronnie is the best player of all-time, I'm saying that Reardon is the best all-rounder. LOL. Fairly valid point tbf. Sort of also like 'Bowlers', but for some must've been hard enough to locate a Table if 'lived out in the sticks'. Was only certain Club's that had Snooker Tables until the Snooker Hall's etc Most of the Golden Oldies or players no longer with us must've been playing since they could crawl though, as Snooker isn't learnt overnight.
