@@Irishmahn87yes and even spent time in the studio with him to learn how to play the songs. Then he wouldn’t go anywhere near the man. Ray Charles thought he didn’t like him or something. Fact was, Foxx played him at a younger age than when he met him. Had he stayed around him, we’d have seen him playing the older Ray. It was a genius move on Foxx’s part!

Notice when he's practicing the song on the piano you can actually see the strings on the inside of the piano being hit. Very subtle, but a great way for the film to show the viewer that Jamie is actually playing, and the correct sound isn't being added in post.

It's like O Brother Where Art Thou. When Clooney sings, he was actually singing. They overdubbed Dan Tyminsky of course but it still feels authentic because of the realistic muscle and facial movements. Small details like that are my favorite.

The only thing wrong with Jamie Foxx' performance in this role is that he eclipsed performances by the entire cast, from the bit parts like the radio DJ to the supporting cast of Regina King and Kerry Washington, and Curtis Armstrong in the role of Ahmed. Truly an ensemble performance.
