The woman who played Marie was write when she said in an interview that it was actually Marie that was the reason Ray and Deborah had such a good marriage. Without Marie, Deborah and Ray would be focused on their problems with each other and their marriage might not have even worked but Marie's intrusiveness make Ray and Deborah focus on Marie and so the problems in their marriage became secondary. If you notice that whenever Ray and Deborah arent getting along somehow Marie manages to change both their focus onto her....and after a while...Ray and Deborah realize that whatever problems they have in their marriage arent that big a deal especially when compared to Marie and Frank and Robert intruding on their lives.
