Look, we can say it's existed for a while, but after it's last boom in 2020-21, things have been getting so, so scary. Like, the Jeffrey Dahmer show is a great example of how irresponsible people are getting over all of this. Like, I'm brazillian and the trend got to here at the time and these people started making a podcast about a woman who committed racial crimes in the US and fled to Brazil and lived in an abandoned house and she's (1) fully alive ('cause it happened, like, ten years ago) and (2) NOT IN JAIL and they didn't hide her name, address, anything in the podcast, so people went over to her house and started, not calling the police, but just destroying the place, and influencers went over there and started to Instagram live it, and it was a mess - the police took action, like, months later in the middle of, like, hundreds of people in the midst of the covid outrage because this famous girl started to break into the house. Like, even the thing with Gipsy Rose and people following her at every turn. We can talk about "America's most wanted" or whatever, but it's impossible to ignore how social media has made it much worse and has turned crime into an even worse espectacle than it was

The noisy neighbour thing can be so frustrating from both sides. We have a downstairs neighbour that used to complain about hearing noise from us all the time. It started with claiming we were jumping and stomping around when we were just walking around our apartment (on socks or slippers), no matter how careful we were being. I started walking around on my tippy toes all day. When we would have guests (like literally having our parents over for tea in the middle of the day) he would act like we were throwing the craziest party. He started banging on the ceiling and yelling at us while we were sleeping because he somehow still thought we were making too much noise. It drove me crazy, I felt like I couldn’t do anything in my own house. At some point we started smelling weed every day and the complaints suddenly stopped, good for him (and us) I guess 😅

You think this is disturbing, 2007 had a show where two teams of three would investigate a replica of a crime scene, get the Autopsy report read to them, be shown interrogation tapes and have to tell the detective that hosted the show who, how, and why. It was called Murder and it aired on Spike TV. They had real photos of the crime scenes. I was taking criminal justice classes and it caught my interest. And it wasn't like a game show persay. The detective was very serious and would call the contestants out on stuff. One guy kept making sarcastic comments and the detective kind of went off about how inappropriate it was. The prize was a donation in the name of the winning team to a local charity. If nobody solved the case, the donation would be anonymous.

I listen to true crime podcasts every now and then, but not obsessively so and I'm so glad you touched on the fact that it seems a bistrange for such a large uptick in the interest of true crime, and the more horrific, the more popular it is.
