Mulan wasn’t a princess. She was a warrior. Shang wasn’t a prince. He was a warrior too. But I’d never not call her a Disney Princess. You did a beautiful job on your remake of Raya!

Mulan is not a princess, but she is an official disney princess. One of the criteria for being an official disney princess is: being born royal, marrying royal or performing a significant act of heroism. Mulan fits in the third category so she can be and is an official disney princess.

While Mulan isn’t a Princess, she is a member of the Disney Princess Franchise. The requirements to join the franchise are: 1. Debut in an original, animated Disney film (not a sequel or live action movie, so no Ting-Ting from “Mulan 2” or Giselle from “Enchanted”) 2. Be the lead female character in that movie (So if a movie were made with, say, Ariel’s sister Adela as the lead she could not be made a franchise princess as she wasn’t lead in her debut film) 3. Be human or mostly human (so Nala from “The Lion King” is ineligible) 4. Be born royal, marry royal, or perform an act of great heroism (difficult to think of a character who can’t be argued to have acted heroically, but I’d say Anita from the original animated “101 Dalmatians” could potentially be discredited for this) 5. The unspoken rule: the film must be financially successful (this rules our Princess Eilonwy from “The Black Cauldron”)

I think that's because if she was a princess, that would make it canon that she's related to Simba and Disney would have to explain why they are a couple. If anything, she should at least be considered a Queen as an adult maybe?

@@noova02 You can marry into the princess title like Cinderella and Tiana. If it was a real pride, perhaps the two would be related, but thankfully Disney didn’t go down that route. The main reason Nala hasn’t been considered a Disney Princess is because Disney Only wants humanoid characters to be in the lineup. But I’d still love to see a doll of her as an unofficial one.

You could also argue she perfomed an act of heroism by saving the pridelands. But the criteria before those is to be a Human which is bullpoo, looking at you, ARIEL.

I've said before but will say it again. What sets you apart from other equally talented doll artists is your recreation of the accessories and their quality. Other artist might have used an old sword from an action figure, but you carve and create them from scratch. Your eye for detail is simply amazing.

She is absolutely stunning! She is a princess. They even call her a princess in the film. I'm not sure why people would even question this. They willingly accept all the other princesses as princesses even though none of them are based in reality. This is fantasy. The only official Disney princess that is based in real life is Pocahontas. So, of course Raya is a princess. :) My boyfriend is from Vietnam and he said he felt the representation of south east Asian culture was excellent. I've personally never been to south east Asia, but definitely plan on going when I can. Any ways, as always your work is masterful and wonderful. Raya is in my top 3 favourite films ever done by Disney. It is so, so good.

This is another fantastic example of Ms. Atelier’s work and why Mattel dolls are not worth the money they charge. Mattel would never put this effort or quality into their dolls and why you must keep them in the box for them to be worth anything in 50 or 75 years.

Thank you for making Raya! I loved this movie so much, I felt like little girl me finally felt seen when this movie came out. I found myself pointing out similarities to vietnamese culture and looking for words that were familiar (though they invented their own language for the movie borrowing from various sources). And this doll is so very beautiful! When I was a little girl I always felt left out when neighbors would dress up as princess for Halloween. I chose Jasmine because at the time she was the only princess of color. When Mulan came out I felt a bit better. But now in my 30s I see Raya and feel like my little nieces have a princess of their own to look up to!

I really like her she looks lovely, very warm and adventurous, you are very talented. And your mum is also so talented. I have a specific and hopefully helpful criticism which I hope you will be able to use going forward. It's about brown eyes, you have such a gorgeous method of drawing and highlighting eyes which works really well for all light eyes. But the layer of white highlight (not the catchlights) that adds definition and texture often changes (at least on camera) the impression of brown eyes to grey. I was wondering if you could try a light brown, orange or even red on that layer instead on some future project when you want to keep the eyes dark but still give that texture. I hope you know I love all your dolls and think you have such a beautiful way of painting them that suggests such a wonderful array of different features and characters.

I have paid attention to this too. In many cases the eye color has been gorgeous, but then the white highlight lines completely change the color. ☹️ And dark brown eyes actually look quite "flat". 🤔 Also to me, the white highlights on the face are too pale for these deeper skin colors. Oh well, I'm not the artist here so... 😅 but just looking from the realistic-look point of view 🤷🏻‍♀️
