Our last king was ,Sri Wickrama Rajasinhe, a Prince from South India,who was the brother in law of last Sinhalese King .Sri Wickrama became a Buddhist as per tradition, but too young to rule a country & became an addict of alcohol & very cruel ruler. As a result, the kingdom of Kandy (Up Country) was handed over to the Britishes by his ministers in early 18th century.

To all those who are wondering about the simplicity in the Royal Mysuru palace, they are rich in the real sense of the word...The Maharajas of Mysuru can be proclaimed as the best of rulers in India. They were always known for giving to the commoners. Kannadigas still keep them in high regard. Can anyone believe, the Maharani's donated sacks n sacks of precious gems to build the KRS dam which stands strong to this day. Shows how people centric the Wodeyars were.
