The singer Marko Saaresto is a good friend of Sami Järvi (Sam Lake) who wrote Max Payne 1&2 and Alan Wake 1&2 just to name a few. Poets of the Fall was asked to write a song for Max Payne 2 and the song Late Goodbye was based on Sami's poem.

'Late Goodbye' was prominent in Max Payne 2 in several places, but the playing of the song over the end credits really hit me . I was thrilled to find out later that they had become a serious group and had some awesome albums. Signs of Life was an incredible listen. They don't have a bad song on any of their albums.

Remedy Entertainment, developer of Alan Wake, Alan Wake 2, Max Payne, Control, etc... Is a Finnish company and so is the band. In Alan Wake they play some songs as POTF and some songs as Old Gods of Asgard. But in most (if not all) of the Remedy Entertainment games, there's songs of POTF.

I know POTF since MAy Payne 22 years ago. Last year I had the chance to see them live in Hamburg/Germany for the first time. I´ve been on many concerts the last 30 years. Metallica, Panterra, Robbie Williams, BonJovi and many others, but the evening with POTF will remain in memory as one of the best live performances I´ve ever seen. To see them liv eis lke watching a force of nautre right in front of you!

Poets of the Fall live is always a special experience. The band members have such great energy when performing on stage! They always look like they are having shitload of fun playing and are always pouring their hearts out on stage! I've never been disappointed by their live concerts and I've been to close to 10 concerts of theirs by now

It's weird hearing Poets of the Fall for the first time after having listened to quite a bit of Old Gods of Asgard. I even have the OGoA record on vinyl. It's feels very familiar but different =) They play young Tor and Odin in the FMV music performances

As some people mentioned, Sami Jarvi (aka Sam Lake) is the creative director at Remedy Entertainment and he's close with the band. Lake, Poets of the Fall and Remedy are all from Finland. The company HQ is just a few kilometers west of where the band is located. Poets did music for Alan Wake 1 and two as well as Max Payne. Marko Saaresto had a cameo in Max Payne, Poets had cameos in both Alan Wake games. Poets of the the Fall has music in the Remedy game Control as well as performing as the fictional band "Old Gods of Asgard" in the Alan Wake games and Control.

True to their name POTF are true poets, Marko is one of the best lyricists ever, very creative with his lyrics, like an old poet

I'm fairly sure they would have gotten involved with Alan Wake because of their existing relationship with the developers. They had a earlier song in the game Max Payne 2 called the Late Goodbye. Which I think (if I remember correctly) was the first song they wrote as a band, or the first song they ever released... either way, it was the start of their career and the song was written specifically for the game with the lyrics based of a poem the Sam Lake (the games writer) wrote. If you ever get the chance, you should check out Late Goodbye. It's a fantastic song, and if you ever play the game, you'll know how well it fits the story. I had seen a video on how Max Payne was made and how Poets of the Fall became involved... I need to track it down and watch it again now.

This was part of a concert, i think it was celebrating 10 years- I could be wrong. If you are looking for further recommendations Daze is one that shows their range and showmanship, the Alexander Theatre sessions are amazing and stripped back to acoustics, and my personal favourite, which has not got an official video as such is Skin. Every video they do and song they write has meaning behind it. Have fun checking them out.

Many people answered your question already but I love talking about this band and Remedy so I’m just gonna feed my hyperfixation, don’t mind me… The band’s singer Marko and Remedy’s Sam Lake are really close friends. Marko played Vlad in 2002’s Max Payne, and the band was asked to make a song for Max Payne 2, which came out to be Late Goodbye. For Alan Wake, they made the song War but Sam wanted something heavier as well. As far as I know, the band didn’t want to put out something that didn’t really sound like them and came up with Old Gods of Asgard for in-game songs. Then came an EP for Alan Wake, a single from POTF and Old Gods for Control, and an entire album for Alan Wake 2. I’m sure they’ll keep up the good work in the future

The bands synth player and writer is famous computer musician from so called demoscene, for example check song Space debris by Captain. Many Finnish game studios are demoscene founded backgrounded people, so they know each other..

The video game link is actually very easy to understand. This band is from Finland, and the late Max Payne and Alan Wake games were from Finnish game house called Remedy Entertainment and wanted to use this bands music. Really good games by the way back in the days. Not to mention this band.

Poets created a fictional band named Old Gods of Asgard to play songs on Remedy's games: Max Payne 1&2 and Alan Wake 1&2, also they played Poets' songs into. 'Old Gods' are more rock'n roll then Poets, but it with same high quality.
