Unfortunately they came a bit too late for Finland to become permanently successful here, which is a damn tragedy. At the time they broke out their style didn't fit what listeners wanted anymore. I feel like they should've come in the nineties to have been appreciated in the level their talents deserve. They had big initial success, but faded away quickly. I get it, but I don't get it. I hope they've been more successful outside Finland, and I think they have been.

The Poets are my favourite band on this planet - can confirm they are criminally underrated, so I'm always super happy when vocal coaches like yourself discover them and give them some love. All of their music videos are incredibly thought out and tell stories, Marko's voice is simply beautiful and they're insanely versatile. I've heard all sorts of genres from them and they never disappoint. One big recommendation that I have also seen in some other comments is "Angel" from their Alexander Theater Sessions (a series of videos they uploaded where they do unplugged/minimalist versions of some of their songs. Angel in particular turned out incredible and really showcases how beautiful Marko's voice is. Some other great songs by them include "Lift", "Daze", "Heal my Wounds", "No End, No Beginning", "Given and Denied" and my favourite song of all time, "War". The latter was part of the soundtrack for the video game Alan Wake. They also make a lot of music for computer games, sometimes under a different name (Old Gods of Asgard). Their song "Balance Slays the Demon" under that alias is also very good and completely different from Carnival of Rust or any of the others I listed here. I hope you'll have a great time checking out any of these songs!

Their first major foray into the US market was YEARS ago, when they made music for the (horrible) video game, "Alone In The Dark", as they knew someone on the production team, and their friend wanted to help them out. From there, they have gradually gotten a following, but majorly blew up, at least in the States, with the release of this song.

I didn’t know about this band until the video game Alan Wake… They are featured as themselves but also as the fictional band Old Gods of Asgard… A 70s era metal group. Members of which appear as characters in the game as old guys in a diner. At the time, there was no good source of buying their albums in the US outside of importing them… Very talented and versatile group, That don’t get a lot of recognition in the States They have done 4 songs as OGoA, two as old school style rock/metal and two as the band’s comeback performances which are used in a sequel game and another game based in the same world. All of them are pretty good. All different from their typical sound. Their newest song Control is pretty heavy and mixes in their melodic vocal style as well. The first two capture the 70s metal sound pretty well, but you can hear the affect of modern recording and mastering in them.

Fascinating. Indeed the mindscape of a person after many hardships and heartbreak can be full of scars and rust, waiting for rain and 'spring' to come. Wooing another person is indeed us showing our best appearance, our tricks and moves that can dazzel and entice him/her to stay but then after it all becomes familiar or not exciting enough will they eventually walk away? Great creative vision and story-telling.

The story with the cards [beside his booth] tell a very very sad tale that weaves with the symbolism through the video. The realization of love, loss of innocence, the yearn for the wrong thing, running out of chances, getting what you want but not what you need and realizing what you've done but it's too late; the damage has been done and opportunities lost

It is a song about obsessive love. He plans on moving "in for the kill" when he sees this woman entering the carnival wearing a gas mask which likely symbolizes trying to escape previous toxic relationships. She shows up with the hope of finding a healthy relationship and possibly a family in the future. But he comes on too strong and scares her. When she holds the doll and then turns to leave, he then sings "Don't walk away". She leaves disappointed. Please react to Poets of the Fall (Live at the Alexander Theatre) for the fully acoustic version of "Rebirth" combining Poet band members with 3 female violin players and a female cello player. It is a stunning presentation. Markos is at his best. The strings and guitars are stunning. The piano ...sublime! Please react.
@lorgrenbenirus2 жыл бұрын
Yeah.. Don't see that. I see a song about greed in a broad term, both material and mental. About a person, who rejects those who love her for who she is, in favour of "fancy things" - party, entertainment, "candy", expensive trinkets. Who sails through her young years like it, thinking "I'll settle down later, for now I party with these cool people!", only to find out later that those "cool people" moved on, because they were never going to settle down and have a life with her, since it never was their goal. All the partying dies off as the time passes, all the attention starts to fade away as the "prime years" pass, all the shine on expensive gifts wears off, all the "candy" is eaten already or has become tasteless, because one has consumed it for too long and too often. And in the end, she's alone, with nothing to show for those "fun times", and comes to realize that this is how it will be now, that she rejected those who cared for more "fun and easier" life before. Now everyone has moved on and she's alone, with the faded fruits of her greed, that old and worn doll.

Poets of the Fall is my favorite band of all time, and Carnival of Rust has been my absolute favorite song in all of time and space since the moment I first heard it - and you touched perfectly on many of the reasons why. 💜 💜 💜A lot of people have already made excellent suggestions of other Poets songs you should listen to (and I second every single one of them 😁) For a great example of Marko's range (he's a baritone, but he can hit notes in his head voice that are at the upper end of my own range as a mezzo soprano/alto), you should listen to False Kings (for his rich, silky baritone), Daze (for the range of his deeper vocals in the verses and amazing falsetto in the choruses), and Cradled in Love (for his gorgeous, delicate head voice). In fact, it would be awesome to listen to all three back to back, in that order, and see your reaction. 💜

Thankyou for reaction, this is one of my favourite less than five minutes song, the creepy gas mark girl is to denote her restricted senses, she has become deaf and restricted in her sight to her true needs, the fortune teller is her heart or soul, The carnival of rust is the deepest recess of her mind, and the Tarot cards at the sides of the fortune teller are the signs and symbols that are guiding her life due to not being able to hear and see clearly what her heart and soul are trying to tell her. She is being driven by her greed and lust for things in her life she does not require in excess. This is represented in the lyrics "Red cape and Foil come closing in for a kill" this is the deception of the matador to the bull, She is being deceived by all the material greed represented by the vendors in the video as they make a killing(money) out of the needs of others The Doll represents this lust for materialism in excess as does the candy lollipop. The Roller coaster is her emotions as they Ebb and Flow. She has been in the Carnival of Rust (deepest recess of her mind) before to try to find a resolution to her pain, see the fortune tellers booth and the cracked glass where he (Heart) has tried to save her before. In the end as she heads down the same road she has walked before. it is a forlorn road and she has a moment of realisation that she is feeding the rain that is bringing the rust or decay in her life she lowers the doll representing her greed and lustful thoughts and turns. we are left to ponder if she will enter the carnival of rust again. The fortune teller(Heart and Soul) ejects a card in the video Cor Cordis or Cordium Heart of Hearts as in what is really in your Heart of Hearts

I think POTF's music in most of their songs resonates with most people in this strange place where you subconsciously think: "It fits..." I describe their works as "Ending theme music" for like a deep movie or (as they actually made their entrance to foreign lands) video game. Close your eyes as you listen to this and you can see the credits roll. But that's not what makes them so fantastic. Musically, lyrically, vocally, stage presence: they are fantastic in their ability and presentation. They don't have a bad song in any of their albums. THAT is hard to pull off.

Ahh yes, the "Gas masks are cool" era. What a great song. They have many good ones. Lift? Locking up the sun? Bops all of them.

I used to hate this video and song as a kid. It was everywhere, and mini me was like eww light rock haha. I have gained respect to this song as an adult. I had a bad case of ove rexposure. I like your style Maggie, you seem like a cool person. Keep up the good work :)

I was born in the golden era of music 1960 and today i am a happy young man on my 64 yrs old. And the only good band we have now is POETS OF THE FALL because they are still playing today.

Have you seen Witchdoctor by DerStaadt? Another interesting video and fantastic tune by a talent that few seemed to be aware of despite the almost cult status in Europe. One of my favorite songs/videos. Thanks for sharing!

And there quite a number more that are emotional and visual roller coasters out there. I spend possibly too much time seeking them but enjoy it nonetheless!

One other thing, comment the emotions? Are we supposed to incorporate it in a reply or make a comment about a ferris wheel?

I found this band and their alter egos the old gods of asgard by playing the game Control.
