Courtney wasn't able to visit her dying grandmother during the pandemic so she didn't get to say goodbye in person. Her grandmother didn't like the harsh vocals so much and joked with Courtney about singing a song without screaming. So Courtney sang this entirely using her beautiful voice as a tribute to her grandmother.

The song was a tribute to Courtney's grandmother who had recently passed away. Due to the pandemic restrictions at the time, she couldn't say goodbye or attend the funeral. Courtney promised her grandmother that she would sing a "pretty" song at her memorial service and not the "scary screaming" she usually does. The video itself was a tribute to the video directors grandmother who was battling the late stages of dementia at the time. They got together and created the music video and lyrical content of the song at the same time. This song just hits me so hard everytime due to what I went thru with my grandmother. 💔Thanks for the reaction 💙

I lost my Dad to dementia a few years ago. It still hurts to think about that experience and the pain of losing him that way. I wish more could be done to help victims of this awful disease. Awareness definitely helps and I love that Spiritbox chose to share “Constance” with the world. I am very fortunate to still have my Mom. This video never fails to make me pick up the phone and call her and tell her I love her. And that is important too. Great reaction to a great song with an important message. 👍

Lost my dad a year ago to dementia also. It's hard to explain to a person that they're dying when they don't even know who they are. He had one last day of clarity before he died. I have no clue how it happened, but It was amazing, and we all got to say goodbye.

I was always under the impression that that was her husband, not son, on the beach who had died years prior. I always felt that that was the moment she died and had reunited with him. Not sure if my interpretation is correct, just always the feeling I got from it.

My thought as well, which adds a lot more weight to it, seeing him clearly at one of the last good moments she remembered him in. It’s been a couple years since this album came out but it still stings a bit to watch this video, even having not gone through the experience myself. Seeing it alone sucks, experiencing and seeing it would be a lot I think.

Ya, Dylan, the director said it was the husband. He told a story about how when his grandma was going through her dementia, she would see her sister outside the window and would get all confused and disoriented (I believe he implied her sister had already passed too, and her mind was playing tricks on her). So at the end of the video, she sees her husband and he becomes clear to her now and she remembers him again. So ya, kinda implying now she's gone and "with" her husband (wherever they may be).

"...like a shadow passing by, crashing into shapes and then fading with my innocence." The lyric I didn't know I needed, but now cannot leave me untouched. Loss sucks. Loss of mind, body or person leaves a wake. After the emotional build-up, the last close-up of Courtney at 5:22 when she appears to move her chin forward in attempt to swallow the feelings, just hits!

This one always hits me deep,as like Courtney,i had a grandmother and she also slowly faded away from us to the illness that this elderly lady in the music video has, alzheimer aka dementia. And thats not all,i also never got to be there one final time with her, before she passed on. Its the most difficult thing to go through for both the one that struggles with it,and the family and loved ones around them. I have younger cousins too that took it even harder, the day our grandmother didnt recognize them. Its soo difficult to process and handle..... A very scary type of illness,as there doesnt seem to be any real cure,or the one cure that exists is soo expensive, that only multi millionaires can afford it. I sort of look at it like with people that gets struck with ALS,i lost someone to ALS this 2nd of June that is just passed us.He was not a relative, but a streamer i have known for years, there people also talk about a possible cure, but its too expensive for most of us. I dont wish it upon anyone to experience someone you hold dear, getting alzheimer/dementia or ALS. It just drains you..... But all that put aside, what a BEAUTIFUL song! Courtney showing that she can own a song by just using clean vocals, just sad that she had to lose her grandma for it to happen. Them being in separate rooms, comes down to Courtneys explanation as to why she never managed to visit her grandmother one final time,to say goodbye as we had all theese massive lockdowns,so i think them being in separate rooms is to represent the pandemic.

I’m amazed how we didn’t see tears on this one; it’s one of my favourite songs from Courtney! It was a hard time for her not being able to see her grandma before she passed due to the pandemic! She sang it all clean vocals because her grandma didn’t really like her harsh vocals! Good reaction, I think that you got the storyline close enough!

To me, I see a broader interpretation of some of the lyrics where we see one wrestling with the slow, gradual extinction of life itself. "It's hard to lose and wonder why..." Which to me suggests recognition of loss and how it affects a person. For after all if all we are, are natural phenomena it wouldn't bother us so much if 'nature' with its ebb and flow ebbs to the point of death. Likewise, "pressure in increments..." further suggests that while death is one final instance of extinction, we witness the slow, gradual decline in our own lives and others we love in increments, not all at once. And the world itself and our bodies are like 'slow moving coups' seeking to undermine us, but coming from within us. In short, anyone experiencing loss feels this one and it hurts a lot. LOVE IT!

Would love to see you react to the band "Nothing More", they have so many great tracks & their singer is fantastic. Just prepare to be sad/cry in a few of their songs in a similar vein to "Constance" here. 😅 I'd probably start off with their track "This is the time (ballast)" because it's not one of their total heart wrenching one's & shows off their singers range & versatility really well. 👍😁

You need to react ARCHITECTS-MEMENTO MORI + GONE WITH THE WIND, cause the song is written by Tom Searle (architects guitaris) After years of treating melanoma disease which has ultimately been unsuccessful. Throughout this whole song, and parts of this album, the context of the song, Tom Searle is referring to himself and knowing that soon he is to lose his battle with melanoma . Tom , passed away after over 3 years living with cancer. Tom Searle and Dan searle (Tom brothers) was a member of Architects since 2004 and, Tom passed away on August 20, 2016

It's always heartbreaking to see someone go through Dementia, my Grandma went through it towards the end and I remember being in School and it was October so my Art Teacher told us to draw our biggest fear and so I drew a Skull and then around it I drew pictures of different objects and a house and things with Xs through it to cross it out, and my Teacher was really confused at what I was drawing and asked if it meant Dying because the Skull so I told her no it was worse and then told her about my Grandma and how I was afraid of having to go through the same thing she was and forgetting almost everyone and everything. I still think even as an adult that's the thing that I'm most afraid of because like Avenged Sevenfold says in the song Remenissions "A good friend once told me we're Memory, without them we equal nothing"

While the song was a tribute to Courtney's grandmother, the videographer had also recently lost his grandmother to dementia, and so the video is a tribute as well. The items disappearing in the video represent memories being lost. The photo of the elderly lady when she was young is the photo of the videographers actual grandmother.

The man the grandma keeps seeing isn't her son, I believe it's her husband, who (I'm guessing from the video that he passed away maybe years ago. She seems to be trying to keep hold of his memory and almost seems like she's recalling his memory for hope or comfort.

Oh god this song is so hard to listen to knowing the meaning. My grandmother suffered an embolism during the Pandemic and they wouldn't let any of come to the back in the hospital for her final moments. I was on the ground crying in the hospital waiting room. Shit was handled so bad when it came to tragedy during the pandemic. We weren't going to be able to have a funeral, but a family friend who owned his own chapel allowed the closest in the family in. We were able to finally gather and mourn my sweet Nana (who was terrified of the pandemic, so atleast she didn't have to continue her fear).

That man at the end wasn't her son, that was her dead husband, in the other side, after she died herself. At least that's how i understand it. Just before the end she doesn't recognize even herself, that's why it is completely different woman at her place. That very hard musical part at the end is her death. Suddenly she is at the other side, it is peaceful again, her mind is clear, and her husband has come to pick her up.

I believe she was sucssfully able to portray the sad reality of Alzheimer and dementia. Especially when she was singing about memories fading, my grandpa had dementia and it was hard on all of us. Dementia slowly deteriorates our brain and incurable. So I hope our scientific advancement can continue to research to find a way to cure dementia some day..
