Yes but it's supposed to be Symbolic as well. The big stone or whatever is supposed to represent his sins😮 So the deeper he goes into the water The more likely he's going to drown by the weight of his sins(stone), However if he comes out of it alive then he's truly Innocent😮😮😮😮
@godiswatching95012 ай бұрын
That’s not necessarily correct, you didn’t have to be found guilty to be executed in early America, when there was no true justice system. Being that they were Christians, all you have to be is accused of something, and if it was a sin, you were executed, and this was one form. The stone is the first “trial”, if you couldn’t carry it to the river, or lake, you were found sinful, and buried where you dropped the stone. Once you made it to the lake, you were dropped in, if you died, you were found sinful, if you somehow survived (never happened) you were found innocent. 😊

I highly recommend, "Dance with the Devil", "Anthem of the Angels" and "Breath." Given the priest and the mourners behind the man carrying the heavy stone by himself and struggling, I've always assume the man is being punished or is a criminal. The priest gave him his last rights at the end.

Great video! You’re the first reactor I’ve seen that paid any attention to the video. Thank you! From what I can tell, the entire ordeal is a funeral procession with the condemned man chained to the stone. His wife is dressed in black, and the daughter (I’m guessing) is the one that picks up the rose. In summary, the man bears his burden right to his watery grave while his wife stands back and lets society execute him for some unknown reason. So cold.

"The Lottery" is a short story by Shirley Jackson that was first published in The New Yorker on June 18, 1948.[a] The story describes a fictional small American community that observes an annual tradition known as "the lottery", which is intended to ensure a good harvest and purge the town of bad omens. The lottery, its preparations, and its execution are all described in detail, though it is not revealed until the end what actually happens to the person selected by the random lottery: the selected member of the community is stoned to death by the other townspeople.

The wise men wonder line always stuck out to me too. I take it as wise men (philosphers, politicans, etc) sit around pondering and thinking while strong men (the soldiers, warriors, etc) end up fighting and dying for the ideas (ideologies) of the "wise men".

There is still a common theme from Diary of Jane and many many other songs of their's. There is lament for a dead or separated love who has become "cold" or non responsive. In this video we see a man being executed by the church for adultery. Apparently the blonde picking the only colored red rose shadowed by the snake symbols her temptation and their "sin". Why she was spared and only he was sentenced is open for intrepatation. Maybe she was a minor and he took advantage, we don't know. The congregation follows in support though many weep. One of my all time favorite videos.

This was the 1st song I heard by BB and I have been a fan ever since. This song came out about 6 months after passion of the christ was playing in theaters back in the day. I always kinda linked the song to that and I think the video makes me believe even more it was inspired by that movie. I basically see the song as verse one just setting the scene and everything else a conversation between Jesus and the guy helping him carry his cross. So you have the emotion from Joseph of wanting to get this hell over with but at the same time knowing what will happen when they get where they are going. Jesus assuing that it's alright.

You witnessed an execution. The man was sentenced to death and that was the manner of execution that settlement used. The priest was giving him his last rites. His carrying the stone is reminiscent of Jesus carrying his own cross to his execution. For a good look at Ben Burnley's softer vocals, I suggest Ashes of Eden.

This was always one of my favorite songs/videos by them. I always took "wise men wonder while strong men die" to be the worst punishment that could happen to each. For a strong man it would be a physical punishment, right? Death. For a wise man it would be a mental punishment. Being forced to wonder. It would be the not knowing that really does the wise man in. Just my take on that line.
