Very interesting…we have a solid fuel hot water system that is gravity fed from a tank . We need more pressure and wondering if I can hook up to tank on the hill and gravity feed into it…I will have to extend Shepard crook 7metres .. is that ok? Thank you

8 - 10m from stove to F&E tank is best

That tee on the return I have never herd of a tung or tongue tee, is it a diverter or a swept tee please, I have also searched for a tongue tung tee I can find no info for that name. Usually a diverter tee is used were a pumped flow comes into a gravity return . Thanx for the video

28mm out 22mm in on stove. I have 22 in and out. Done it years ago when I was a lot poorer. Still working well 30+ years later with a home made boiler.

Good video. Too much hysteria elsewhere about the dangers of uncontrolled heat. In reality, if you follow basic principles, it's fairly safe. But please stop calling the 'vent pipe' the 'expansion'. In normal conditions, the vent does not operate, as you indeed state. During normal operation, expansion is likely to be less than 5% in volume so water will slowly expand up the feed. (You touch on this point, but a viewer could get the idea that water does not expand at all during normal operation as you keep talking about expansion and pointing to the vent). The vent, on the other hand, allows air to vent out during normal conditions, and steam to escape during overheat conditions and it is incorrect to call it the 'expansion'.

It shows the DIY fitters it is needed.... Its hard to film without script.... facebook.com/groups/372709123873867

@@cliveproctor943 Indeed. It was good that you explained it needed to be there, I just think it would be better if you used the right term else people do other research and cannot communicate in a universal language. I was trying to be constructive, though I appreciate you cannot simply edit a video as you could a written article, so probably more a tip for next time, eh? I know what you mean about scripts. I used to have a channel (since deleted by myself because I didn't like the way KZbin was going) and every other word was 'uhm' unless I had a script and had rehearsed. My hardest problem was that I'd be doing everything single-handed because the other hand had the camera in it :)

@@johnbull5394 When the water boils over, out of the open vent pipe (as its not fitted properly, or blocked) it is still a hot expansion of water... Trouble with trying to explain to DIY its importance, as some have not even fitted the pipe correctly. Thanks Clive

@cliveproctor943 Well yes, it is a hot expansion, but more due to the change of state from water to steam (the headline figure is 1600 x the volume, though I'm not sure that's technically always exact). Keep up the good work. I had a customer who once asked me what would happen if he fitted his stove without a heat-leak. As he had an uninsulated Primatic cylinder which was correctly vented and was piping in 28mm, I told him it wouldn't explode, but the boiler would start to boil all the time and I didn't recommend it. Then he did it to try and realised the system wasn't happy. Then a female member of the household, shall we say, paid me to put the heat-leak in that he should have fitted in the first place. Sometimes people think they can do it differently and get away with it :) .
