I would like to indulge my inner electronic music nerd and say that the 1997 Playstation game didn't just have some generic dance music, it was an absolute banger selection of techno and acid tunes from the absolute cream of the crop of electronic music producers , Mijk Van Dijk, Joey Beltram, Dave Angel, Scan X, Hardfloor as well as Japanese Maestro Takkyu Ishino who made the main theme. It's an absolute must for any techno fan to listen to this soundtrack.
@Vastad2 жыл бұрын
Your comment is 5 years old at this point, but just had to jump in and say I wholeheartedly agree. I would say this soundtrack and the soundtrack for the movie Hackers (1995) served as gateways to exploring electronic music of the 90s.

Just gonna say this: Oni is in my top 10 most favorite games of all time :| I'm very disappointed that Raycevick compared it to GITS because although visually its similar, it's different in every other aspect. It thrives not with story but with gameplay, the story is just a backdrop to give context for the reasoning for the gameplay. And because he didn't play past the second level's boss (which actually is literally the worst part of the game), he basically deprived himself of a phenomenal martial arts 3rd person shooter, which by the way, with every move-set unlocked over the course of the game allows for street fighter levels of depth, strategy and variety. Not to mention, the bosses in the last half of the game are are by far one of the best and most satisfying experiences in a 3rd person fighting game. Although, I do have respect for him playing the PC version instead of the horrible PS2 port. And ultimately, I don't mind if he doesn't like the game in the end as long as he puts as much time into it as he did with a lot of the GITS games which would then put him in a more respectful, qualifying position when it comes to judging a game as a whole. Also, what is up with the main character's hair? She looks like Wolverine. Her hair is sticking up a lot more than her original model. Must be a mod I'm unfamiliar with :\

Ghost in the Shell is about the complexity and the beauty of life. The Puppetmaster is an AI that argues neither science nor philosophy can define what life is, and it demands only the rights that all living beings possess -- the ability to die, and to procreate. It cannot simply copy itself, because children are not copies of their parents; children inherit traits and genes from their parents, sure, but they are much more than copies. The Major has a conversation about this with Togusa about midway through the film -- he questions why he was selected for the unit, and she explains that over-specialization breeds weakness. The Puppetmaster wants to join with the Major to create something new -- to marry her, in a sense, and have children. The music that plays in the beginning? That's a traditional Japanese wedding song, used here to represent the marriage of man and machine. But it also plays into the union between the Major and the Puppetmaster. The film is incredibly deep, dealing with questions of sexual identity and the meaning of life itself, and frankly, no video game about shooting people in kawaii tanks is ever, ever going to live up to that.

+Romano Coombs I love the way you put it, I noticed the way Motoko does that with the smaller characters and helps them grow. The first time I noticed was with the kids who were stealing organs, the way she scared that one kid stiff pretending to be a yakuza and then explained to them all how good they have it in life, that they should try to make something of themselves. That episode with the film director airing a film on repeat in his cyberbrain is one I remember well. At the end Motoko laments how she feels you can't live your life in your own shell, you've gotta get out there and see the world because it's the only way you'll learn and grow. I love the overall philosophy the show has towards cyberization, it's inspirational.
@GloomGaiGar6 жыл бұрын
Yeah great now turn that into a game.
@TheSchoolyD5 жыл бұрын
@Romano Coombs I'm honestly starting to hate the films' fanbase, surprisingly mostly because of the film itself. Motoko in the manga/SAC and even in recent films has not been this fucking moody and philosophical. I still cannot understand her reasoning for diving (in water) in cyberbody. I get what the director meant, but it's still not something she would do, even in that reincarnation. Movie was its own thing basically, and sadly it couldn't be further from the source material. What is worse is that it is the ghost in the shell people will remember for ages to come because it broke anime in general into the west. I know it's a stretch, but I'm even going as far as saying the half of the faults of 2016 adaptation came from trying to adapt the 1995 movie while asking manga creator for general advice. They are that incompatible.

How to make GITS game: - L.A. Noire and Heavy Rain's investigation and detective works. - Cel shaded visual. - Branching paths. - Splinter Cell: Blacklist's combat/stealth gameplay. - set in the SAC or Oshii universe. - use Kenji Kawai and Yoko Kano soundtracks. Done.

WonPorky metal gear combat would be a bit more fitting
@basic59266 жыл бұрын
I disagree with both of you. Blacklist had excellent stealth gameplay at times, but honestly lacked that satisfying punch that shooting someone should make you feel. The game threw way too many enemies at you which resulted in occassionally unavoidable confrontations. This was a bad choice if you compare the game to the best in the series, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, which never forces you to enter a gunfight. Aiming kinda sucked and everything can be stealthed, which resulted in a much better experience compared to Blacklist's action fiesta. Meanwhile, Metal Gear combat is a very broad way of describing a combat system. The combat in Metal Gear changes with nearly every iteration which leads me to believe that you are thinking of the latest installment, Metal Gear Solid V. While MGSV had great gameplay, it only worked because it is MGS. The series is partially way too goofy for it to work with GITS. Meanwhile, as cliche as it might seem, I'd imagine a Deus Ex type concept would work for both combat and general gameplay. The way Deus Ex handles your stats and augmentations would fit in very well with a GITS type game where you don't play an established character, but instead craft your own version of a pre-imagined character in a similar way to how Deus Ex or The Witcher lets you. And for fuck sake, don't cel shade it. Cel shading wouldn't fit with the rain-slick look of GITS and would be way too loud visually.
@attilasedon95936 жыл бұрын
my take on it: - Metal Gear Solid 4 stealth, and fast-paced, adrenalin rush shooting w/o regen (like COD, HALO, CS, F.E.A.R) and you can choose how would you do a mission - Realistic 3D graphics - Either a smaller focused open world, or a linear game. - L.A. Noire like detective work - Good music - I dont care makes it. - Great AI (like something from F.E.A.R.) - Engaging story, world

@@XBullitt16X 1. I know it the comment is 3 years old..that's the reason why I replied to it..to pull your legs. And 2. No being like cyberpunk 2077 is a yes and a no..if we are going to base the game on the gits universe then yes, for we make our own story and narrative and how we see transhumanism But if it's Major's then no a linear story will be fine for we know her thought process, changing it based on how we feel via options and branching paths and not her own feelings(the writer) makes it disconnected from the points the anime was trying to make. Now to cyberpunk 2077, enjoy the game but it is good you are not in denial of its game breaking bugs and problems.

So here is my second comment haha Aside from the reviews, there is a reason why your channel is growing....quality! I know it is just a simple phrase, but I can't think of any other words to label your work. It just clearly shows that you actually put time into writing and voicing a clear and precise script! The pacing, explanations, subtle pauses, lowering or raising of voice are in my opinion some of the best I have heard. It truly shines as you watch a 30 minute KZbin video and feels like you wanted more! Again I must praise the editing! Your transition slides are the best in the biz! I love them so much lol I know its nothing crazy, but they are so creative, unique to the video topic, and help organize what could be an utter mess into a fantastic video that is easy to follow! Now again I don't want to write up a whole novel on your comment section, but I did want to point out what really stood out to me on your work, but I do need to add how you tend to have this pattern of throwing in an impact moment to create a point such as when you quoted the author in this one. That my friend is pure gold and just shows not only to me, but probably every one who views this video, a true individual who's passion has the strength of Superman. And one more thing I would love to point out, seeing the progression of these games from old to new is also something so cool to see and hope you do this again for other projects in the future. oh wait and one more thing, the research behind this video was also perfect lol AND one more thing, the credits on these videos keep getting better and better lol Love ya bro! Well, you sort of asked for someone to get upset at you. You did indirectly call Ghost in the Shell, "weeb garbage".
@peoplespest1547 жыл бұрын
Well, damn. You posted what I did 24 hours earlier. xD As for you KommissarBanx, the woman is actually something called a Psycho. Basically a person that got so high on their advantages deriving from cybernetic enhancements that they started to view humans the same way humans view insects. Pests you tolerate. Though the moment they piss a Psycho off even a little he starts squashing the little bugs. Cause it's not like they are thinking, feeling beings. They are just obnoxious little pests. As for the sexualization, if you'd watched GITS you'd probably know that her emphasis on her body derives from an existential crisis. She deliberately exaggerates her own sexuality and femininity to be able to identify as a female at all. After all, her body is entirely artificial, she could swap it out for a man's body at any time without it making a real difference in anything but appearance and physical output. So there's a lot more to it than just the representation, although marketing surely factors into it.

Very detailed and indepth video! Liked it very much. It's a shame that this highly regarded genre still hasn't seen a respectable video game adaptation. Here's to hoping for the future!

The only game director that comes to mind that'll do this series justice is Yoko Taro. His latest game, Nier:Automata, the themes and use of the medium would be great for GITS
@tvsonicserbia51407 жыл бұрын
The psp game was made by the studio that made Drakengard
@radpunk51446 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. It looks far from what Yoko Taro is doing in terms of games.
@TheGoblinFury6 жыл бұрын
Akatsubasa His games are very different and uniquely Yoko Taro, the existentialist themes of Nier Automata are also found in Ghost in the Shell. If anyone could write a compelling GiTS narrative, it would be Taro.
@radpunk51446 жыл бұрын
masterchief01852 Well I still disagree. His writing is often twisted, with fucked up and crazy characters, and with a style that implies a non-linear storytelling. Also ok, he may have been tackling the themes of existantialism and AI that gain conciousness through cogito, but the main theme of Yoko Taro that is in all of his games, is murder. And I can't picture this wacky director doing a game like Ghost in the Shell, that should be really serious and clinical about his subject, with an emphasis on contemplation. Also, in terms of gameplay, I don't see how he could nail the feeling of the section 9 working as a team, like professionnals and with a slow pace. Since the dude is just doing stylish beat-them-ups
@TheGoblinFury6 жыл бұрын
Akatsubasa I never mentioned gameplay, only narrative. And even within that, exclusively themes. And while I agree Ghost in the Shell is far more clinical, to say that simply because Taro's personal projects are a bit out there he couldn't write a narrative that would fit within Ghost In the Shell seems a bit narrow minded. Taro has a clear understanding of transcendental and existentialist themes and has talent writing strong, complex characters. Questions raised in Automata about AI and Humanity are very similar to ones in GiTS. And its not like there isn't a place for some out there stories in GiTS. Stand Alone Complex and the manga got weird at times. Its doesn't all have to be Oshii's more serious interpretation - which is also my personal favorite. I respect where you're coming from, and gameplay wise I completely agree. Although I don't see why a non-linear structure couldn't fit in Ghost in the Shell. I recall some SAC episodes that played with structure and perspective. But I do think he could write a compelling story. Look at some of his short stories and stage plays. The ones written for Automata are extremely contemplative and cerebral, just for context of his ability outside of a game.

Ooh, I remember playing a demo of that first game on the PS1 way back when. It was pretty fun for my non-gamer, Fuchikoma-loving self. I was even gifted the soundtrack to it a while later. Interesting music, very industrial and created by some well-known artists of its genre at the time.

It's not technically GitS, but I had to admit I was expecting to see something about Oni from Bungie in this. The game is so clearly inspired by it, and may be the best not-really-but-actually-Ghost in the Shell game I can think of.

That last point really hit home. I feel like that's the reason the 2017 movie was actually decent (not a masterpiece, but certainly the best live-action adaptation of an anime I've ever seen). It understood the source material and optimized itself as a live-action movie for more casual movie-going audiences. Now if only we could get a game that does that.

The (possibly) ideal Ghost in the Shell game: A top-down Shooter with a beautiful Anime art style. Gameplay will be simple but solid, putting emphasis on player choice (If there's a Hostage Situation, you'll only have a few seconds to make a decision which could change how the story progresses) and Storytelling. Gameplay will be sorta like Hotline Miami, but with more intense Cyberpunk visuals. As for Story, you'll be a new character that will sometimes interact with the known cast depending on the Mission. I'm thinking for the final mission you'll work alongside the Anime's Protagonist to take down a larger threat, aiding in her Mission rather than it being the other way around.

this is a great video! I think a developer like Creative Assembly would make a good Ghost in the Shell game. Creative Assembly have a certain approach to research and attention to detail that really allows them to capture the look and feel of their worlds. Looking at Alien Isolation, Total War Warhammer or their historical Total War titles, and those game's development process, one can see the effort put in.
