"He's already doing octaves" Its a pretty sick riff but as a guitar player I can assure this is almost certainly way harder on violin. Especially if you want to play the piece with the same energy as a guitar player. Fair play for nailing it
@IssamUAhmed Жыл бұрын
Yeah octaves are v easy on guitar. Just like playing double stops or chords or harmonics, all stuff you'd learn pretty early on
@ultimatesoup Жыл бұрын
I play both guitar and violin... can confirm they are WAY harder on violin. If you are even the slightest bit off on violin it's super obvious whereas you just have to hit 2 frets a step away and 2 strings down for MOST octaves on guitar

Well done, Ray. Excellent adaptation to the violin.

I hope we also recognize that the music of Polyphia is being played on a Stradivarius. A freaking Stradivarius. It is now part of the instrument's history. An addition to its legacy. Glad to be living in a time where classical music has been made more approachable yet not lose its virtuosity. In a world where music is created by algorithms and redundant lyrics, musicians like Ray and Tim keep it alive by technique, interpretation and innovation, and it is so gratifying having musicians like them who, through their music, engages our brain to more activity than any other endeavor within the time span of this video. This just reminded me that Tim Henson actually grew up playing the violin until around 15. In an interview, he talks about how his teachers sort of made him hate it growing up because they were physically abusive (I think they hit him across his hand with a bow if he made mistakes??) but that he's grateful he had the opportunity to learn because it taught him discipline. Love how this turned out, this series is so fun!

Would love to see a challenge where you take a bunch of classes and try to learn other stringed instruments in 24 hours. Guitar, cello, erhu, etc. I've been playing guitar from a really young age and when I tried my hand at violin when I was a kid, I felt like I had a step up on most of other students. The bowing was obviously completely alien, but all the left hand stuff came relatively easily. Would be awesome to see what a world class violinist can do going the other way!
