The difference in BB and Rayleigh is that Rayleigh went there determined to even die fighting. He knew that even with his haki couldn't win against BB but he would surely made him go full power and probably get him close to death. BB went there thinking that no one could stop him. He was ignorant. He didn't had on his mind the new powerfull pacifistas and definitely he didn't expect to find there Rayleigh. He was scared because he actually thought that dieing there was a good possibility because he had to fight both pacifistas and Rayleigh and he wouldn't come out alive. He didn't get there determined that he might die in the process. That's why he acted like he did. Meaning he left and avoid further conflict with anyone else. Bottom line is that Old Rayleigh is very strong but not as strong as BB. Just remember that Shanks who is also very strong and master of advanced haosoku got a fkin scar while fighting BB. Even on duels with mihawk haven't been hurt before. BB is dangerous and both Rayleigh and Shanks acknowledged that.

Not quite See Blackbeard was on wb's ships so he knows how terrifying prime Rayleigh was obviously he is old but guess what happened last time Blackbeard underestimated an old person? Power aside, confronting both of them is a concept simple to anticipate due to both being present for Ace's execution and some of the few who could meet Whitebeard head-on. Drama aside, it's telling how after Marineford, Blackbeard he Jewellery Bonny pinned down yet immediately ran away when Akainu surprised him. This episode had the same scenario, with only Rayleigh who subsequently acknowledges his odds of defeating Blackbeard are low. Akainu himself is good at bluffing. A little extra sprinkled on, in a stare-dow with Shanks, Blackbeard took the option to leave calm and carefully. Here, he's visually panicking once Rayleigh makes such an overt threat. Threatening a Yonko guarantees retaliation since they cannot afford to back down without an answer, and most are very aware of the need to maintain their positions. -Big Mom and Kaido answer any incursions to maintain their niches and strength. -Whitebeard put on airs with Ace hunting Blackbeard towards Shanks. -Shanks recognized he couldn't meet Luffy in Wano due to Bartolomeo attacking islands under the Red Haired flag. Right here, against somebody with the personal strength of a Yonko, Blackbeard's composure drained away and he high-tailed it outa there. Somebody as conniving and calculating as him failing to spot a bluff, and run without a thought about his position as a Yonko.... That says volumes under scrutiny.

Blackbeard may have two super broken devil fruits, but he's never had to fight seriously. His victories were against the brats Ace and Bonney, the dying Whitebeard, and the leftovers of his crew. He ran away from Shanks, Akainu and Rayleigh, experienced fighters who could kick his ass. This lack of experience in a prolonged battle will doom him in the future.
