Rayman 1 Level Editor/Viewer Update (real-time editing, support for GBA/DSi/Jaguar)

Here's a progress update for our Rayman 1 level editor, showing real-time editing and support for the remaining games. It's still a work in process.

Thanks! 🙂 It's becoming possible in Rayman 2 with the new modding tools there, not sure about other games though. Would be interesting seeing it for UbiArt since that seems to have a lot of modding potential.

Ah yeah, they included a demo of the Rayman 2 2D prototype in the PS1 version of R2 :) It's pretty neat, and shows some cool concepts for how the game could have been! They also started cleaning up the previously messy R1 engine :P Good idea! I've added it now :) Too bad he never made any more tracks, they are really amazing! I would have loved to see his new takes on the rest of the tracks. I'll always remember the amazing soundtrack he made, which was a big part of my childhood.

I'm actually a bit shocked now, because I hadn't realized until now that Rémi passed away last year already; losing the fight against that 'dragon' ... :( Great stuff, but for sure I'm disillusioned now ... Same here, and I don't think I would have been as much a fan of the Rayman series without his compositions! If I see a chance for a giveaway, I'll be thinking of his work!

Hi RayCarrot : first thanks for the awesome work. I have a bit of issues when trying to use the editor : i did the directory stuff load the project : I get on the editor but it gets stuck on loading. ( im on rayman forever maybe it can cose issues)

Do you get an error? Also make sure you set the correct directory. For Rayman Forever this would be the /Rayman directory for R1, /RayKit for Designer etc. I should also note this is still very work in process, so expect a lot of bugs and such right now.

@@RayCarrot the only thing i have is this : i dont know if this could be the problem : System.Windows.Forms.dll assembly is referenced by user code, but is not supported on StandaloneWindows64 platform. Various failures might follow. UnityEditor.BuildPlayerWindow:BuildPlayerAndRun() i did had error about event.csv and directory error but i managed to get rid of them : so now it lunches without those red errors but it stays at loading. Its a good possibility that i have something on my side preventing it to go further. Just wanted to try no worries if it's not working for me right now i'm very patient :) Keep up the good work and take your time. Oh yeah to be more precise : game is set to rayman pc 1.00 : level is 04 pink plant woods : directory on rayman 1 pc 1.00 : goes to D: GOG galaxy/games/rayman forever/rayman : Or raykit for designer

Hmm i restarted the editor now without making changes i have a directory error ( directory not found exeption could not find a part of the path ""c ay ay .xxx : but now im kinda confused with where did i made the direction wrong. i dont want to bother you tho. As i have the directory error i bet the loading getting stuck to only be an issue with my computer.

Windows Forms isn't referenced so I'm not really sure what you mean. Regarding the .CSV file you should leave all that as is or it might break something. The .xxx error sounds like you're trying to load the PS1 version. For the PC version you should use PC 1.21.

@@RayCarrot OK thanks a lot, i will try some more. I saw that the. Xxx error also pop when using designer /fan. So I guess something on my side is messing things. I'll try to make this work. Don't bother with me tho i don't want to take you're time. I'll find somethint eventually

I didn't understand if it's just a viewer or you can edit and play the level. How do I go about playing the level? Do I need to have a version of the base game and modify existing levels? Is it possible to create multiple layers and concatenate them?

@@RayCarrot I tried to load the game folder but I can't find any levels... I selected the folder that contains the ".lev" files of the game "Rayman 60 new level" How do I open an existing level if it doesn't appear on the right screen of the program??

I'm not sure I understand what's going on. You imported the levels from other Rayman versions into the editor? Was that difficult? And there's even a different graphic style for the GBA version with less colours? Is the goal to simulate all versions on their respective systems?

No, the editor can load maps from any version. The GBA maps are being read directly from the GBA rom etc. When editing a game you can't import data as you're editing a specific version.

You mean in the editor? Well I'm currently in debug mode + recording at the same time, so all of that slows it down. But then again it's not meant to replace the game itself.
