Some information: - His health is set to 200 in the final game (I edited it to 5 for the video), but you can still hit him without modifying the game! The problem is once his health goes down to 0 it is set to go back to 1 due to the object type flags. HOWEVER... that code runs AFTER the main object function. So it is possible to actually defeat him normally, and thus end the level, if you hit him during the very last frame of his animation (I somehow managed to do it once, but then never again lol). - The code for locking the scrolling to the boss arena is unused, but I restored it for the video. It does however do it in a very different way to other bosses, so I think this boss would have moved around more in the level and not be confined to one small area. He has a bunch of movement code. - Once he's defeated the game will just finish the level without a victory animation or anything. No other boss does this. Probably a placeholder, or a leftover from before the victory animation was implemented. - The reason why the boss appears to be defeated before his health is depleted is because there's usually a boss icon covering the left side of the bar. The way the health bar works is by shifting it to the left for each hit.

What a nice discovery, and thorough analysis! 👍 I indeed counted 5 'yellow teeth'; indicating you'd not even be halfway defeating him ^^ Also makes sense the boss area would have been bigger, because it's boring, and at the same time tricky this way 😁

I always did think this section of Bongo Hills was weird and that this enemy sticks out like a sore thumb. I wonder if they just ran out of time or didn't think it was interesting enough to be a full mini-boss.

Probably the latter since he was still going to appear in the last part of Bongo Hills. This enemy also appears in early SNES concept arts, so could still have been an early boss idea though!

Could be! As for the health bar, it's so it can be a single sprite for the full bar rather than one for each hitpoint. Then it moves it off screen to the left (with the boss icon covering the left part of it) so only the relevant part is shown.

Rayman Redemption did actually turn this enemy into a boss, so yeah it basically has this fight restored by coincidence :p Reg. a speedrun I'm not sure which one you mean. I've seen some a while back where they abuse the save system to warp to the end which is pretty fun to watch!

The mobile version is identical to the PC version. Like all other versions he was just an obstacle there, not a boss.
