A very nice, nostalgic video. Especially your soundtrack choice, chills were experienced multiple times. Rayman 2: The Great Escape for PC was the first ever game to truly captivate me, make me fall in love with games, and greatly influence my taste in a lot of stuff. The butterfly effect of this goes as far as the fact that I'm an indie game developer now, exactly because of how briliant that game was. Seeing the game getting stripped down to components by speedrunners, videos like this one and my own, more professional perception is both bittersweet and cathartic, really makes me motivated to pass on the torch and try to create something people would get invested in.

Never before have I considered how impressive it is to start out with one 2D series installment and then to immediately make the transition to 3D for the second game, and to make it quite smoothly at that! That would be like as if Super Mario World had been the first Mario game Nintendo ever made and then four years later they came out with Super Mario 64.

11:00 Oh my god, thank you! For years I thought I went insane. I played the PS2 version as a child, and after some time lost access to my PS2 and therefore the game. And ever since that day, every remake I purchased, like Rayman 3D, only ever had this portal selection menu. I always wondered, "wait, wasn't this an actual world level you could freely walk through?" and somehow I never found anyone explaining that difference online. Rather, everytime I saw this game again, be it speedruns or gameplays, they always played on a non-PS2 version and each time I thought I lost my mind, remembering a hub world level, that never actually existed. Thank you for restoring my faith in my own memories again. And thanks for this great comparison. Some of those version differences I didn't even notice when watching gameplay. Like the blue lum vs bubbles when swimming.

Rayman 3D had a pretty weird glitch where a trampoline didn't have a bounce effect on it, so it was impossible to get to a Lum cage
@BigAlvideos1015 жыл бұрын
Actually, in that section, you can use one of the enemies in mid-flight to "bounce" yourself up to that same Lum cage, and once you get to it, it saves and everything! The only thing to keep in mind is that if you try to exit the level via the hole in the ground that warps you out, the game will freeze/soft lock. However, since the game saves once you collect the Lum there, you can pretty much just shut off the 3DS and turn it back on and you'll still have that Lum! I saw it done in a KZbin video!

@@TheGeras666 Yes, I know, but the physical version (and I think the GOG version) has support for DirectX, though it's very picky and won't work on every PC, while the 3DFX API is more compatible and easy to use for these old games thanks to nGlide and Digi Voodoo. Although, going back to your original question for a moment, I'm also curious why the guy didn't show any footage from the PC version, as both the physical and GOG versions are dirt cheap (though if you want to play this on a 64-bit OS I recommend the GOG version), and both nGlide, and Digi Voodoo are also easy to get and setup.

British Media Bully That’s just semantics and kind of irrelevant. The fact remains that the experience from the N64 version is a strict downgrade from the DC version. The only reason to get the N64 version over the DC one is if you don’t have a DC (or if it is significantly more expensive). We don’t give any other form of media a pass because it’s older, you’re not going to say, “I have to rank this experience 4% more enjoyable because it’s five months older.”

I dunno who that Nitro Rad is cos I'm old but pretty neat that he did a cameo thing. Rayman 2 is a such a neat game. Didn't realise how different each port was. Some of the changes seem almost arbitrary but I imagine it was more to do with scope. Like, the Dreamcast's map was probably intended for the original releases but never finished in time. Also noticed the jail cell at the start on PS1 has a metal door rather than energy beams. I would say that was a technical thing but the PS1 was pretty great at transparencies. Maybe there's a Rayman multiverse where each one is a little different. Well done on getting this video finished. I know it was a lot of work just finishing each of the games to get the footage. Glad to see you back!

Fun sidenote: Rayman 2 on GBC is mostly the same game as the first Rayman GBC game. The boxart is the same but with a different background color, the music from the first game is reused, the graphics are mostly reused (incl. the Comic Sans), and functions practically the same. The differences is that Rayman had some new sprites when climbing, has a battery save, the cutscene art took a nosedive in quality, and overall it's made by a different studio. If I were to add one more game, that would be the GBA port of Rayman 3. Yeah, but hear me out: It's mostly a 2D demake of Rayman 2, but with hoodlums stuffed in there way late in development. It's a weird fusion of Rayman 2 & 3, and the only Rayman game where you actually see Rayman shooting out his fists, instead of leaving a "3rd fist" that other games had.
