Castlevania is one of my favorite franchises and the fact that you did this review of both bloodlines and 4 in such a way that it made me want to go and replay these games immediately is a testament to the appreciation you have for them as well much love and respect dude thanks for a quality review

hmm, if you're playing on a retro handheld thing it seems the Dreamcast version is gonna beat the GBA one.

The problem with Genesis was the GEMS sound driver and sadly Konami used it for this game. Then you go and listen to something like Rocket Knight, which has really good use of FM synth, and understand what the Genesis could do. Games like this gave people the idea the Genesis had poor sound, but it was all the fault of western sound designers. Listen to Batman on Genesis, another game changer.

Why didn't they include the Sega Master System and Game Gear versions of Aladdin in the Aladdin Lion King Jungle Book Collection? Those two versions are the only one where you could play as Aladdin in his Prince Ali outfit. Even the Sega Genesis and Super NES version doesn't had that (well the Super NES version had it in the flying carpet bonus level but that's it). I would had prefer those two over the garble looking Game Boy and GBC ports which looks very terrible.

I think the colors are actually much more bright and vivid on the sega vs the nes. The opposite if what you saw. Or maybe it's just that the graphics are much better on the sega so the colors appear better. Just look at the crowd. Sega is clearly more clear and crisp and better colored. Fast forward to NBA jam tournament edition and sega is all time great

SCIV is an example of a game being "more than the sum of its parts." Bloodlines is a very measured experience. The upside is arguably tighter design but less risk-taking and overall surprises.

Grew up with the PS1 and it was one of my favorite games on the system. So it's kinda funny its considered the worst version. But also its kinda lame there's no definitive version.

"You ever borrow a game from a friend and accidentally delete their save?" - No, but I legit lent my copy of Crystalis to a friend who then lent it to a different friend who then deleted MY save. That being the first line of this video was freaky.

Although Rayman 3d scratched the itch back when it came out, but the one thing that always irked me was that you heal all of your health and lose nothing when you die, invalidating the entire original difficulty of the game, making it lose a lot of enjoyment getting through it.

11:00 Oh my god, thank you! For years I thought I went insane. I played the PS2 version as a child, and after some time lost access to my PS2 and therefore the game. And ever since that day, every remake I purchased, like Rayman 3D, only ever had this portal selection menu. I always wondered, "wait, wasn't this an actual world level you could freely walk through?" and somehow I never found anyone explaining that difference online. Rather, everytime I saw this game again, be it speedruns or gameplays, they always played on a non-PS2 version and each time I thought I lost my mind, remembering a hub world level, that never actually existed. Thank you for restoring my faith in my own memories again. And thanks for this great comparison. Some of those version differences I didn't even notice when watching gameplay. Like the blue lum vs bubbles when swimming.

Didn't play the GBC version but the music, while different, doesn't sound so bad to me. Quite a different vibe but still ok by itself (considering the GBC sound chip is not his strongest asset, remaking the original tunes could've been much, much worse..). I dont mind more hints during the game, some parts are hardcore to figure out in the original. And the hero being a prophecy figure is already there on NES. The wise men are waiting for his arrival and heavily supporting him in his quest. But the screen size is a deal breaker. I cant even imagine the boss fight against that ninja bouncing everywhere. Also apparently the final boss is different between the two versions? Spoiler: You fight Draygon and then the Tower Core to save the day in the original, but only Draygon in the remake. More climactic this way, but it's still one part of the game "missing".

I've played through Both and although my love for the NES one is greater I do have to say: SPOILERS: Switching the last bad guy to the end after destroying the tower core was a nice touch. Where as in the NES version the attack on the tower's core was an anticlimactic ending.

To sum up some versions that I know: N64 - the original PC - the original but better (my personal favorite because it's so balanced) Dreamcast - almost like the original but added some content PS2 - added way too much content PS1 - removed way too much content

I'm always gonna be an advocate for Revolution standing above all the others! From what I've played and seen, there doesn't seem to be anything the other versions have, that Revolution doesn't, apart from different styles! Plus, Revolution adds more content on top of that! Also, your arguments about Dreamcast Ray 2 having better graphics and camera angles really feel, like you're TRYING (and failing IMO) to find anything wrong with Revolution. Now, granted I have only played Rayman Revolution and Rayman 3D out of all these, but I have seen other people play/review all the other versions, most of them also saying the Dreamcast version is superior to all of them, some even taking Rayman Revolution's extra content as a point against it (which just confuses me to no end). Through my multiple playthroughs of both versions I own, I have never ran into any of the issues you said Revolution has! Rayman 3D feels pretty much exacly, like you decribed it, so I don't feel I need to say much here, as I think you said it all pretty well, so I'm just gonna get to my points: 1. The graphics in PS2 look stellar and smooth, compared to all the other versions (not to mention the beautiful shading)! 2. The extra content really connects the entire world of Rayman 2, gives you things to work towards, and creates a very steady progression system, that all the other versions lack! 3. It fixes all the issues the other versions have! (like the combat system, and awkward backtracking stemming from the linear, level-based design of the others to name a few) 4. Cutting out sections that feel like padding, and relegating some of the unreasonably difficult sections to optional content! (like the notoriously hated on-rails rotating chair section for example) That's all I can think of off the top of my head! If there's anything you think I missed, feel free to let me know!

I would play quite a bit w/ my two brothers on the N64 version of the game, still have my copy of it all these years later and still boot it up to play from time to time. Dark Legacy was a nice improvement but also left out what made Legends so good like showing the amount of the special power-ups you had. I had a copy of Dark Legacy that didn't have health bars for Golems, Gargoyles and bosses but then got a second copy that fixed those issues. Still holding out hope for whoever has rights to these games to port them to modern systems.

N64 version was the first version released. Windows was a slightly better-looking version. Dreamcast version has many bonuses and improvements. PS1 version is considered the worst one, but it does at least contain that 2D Rayman 2 Demo not on any of the other versions. PS2 version is usually considered the best version all around. If I had to rank them, I would say buy the PS1 and PS2 versions, and either an N64 or Dreamcast version depending on which console you own (or want to own). Personally, I like the PS1-exclusive demo, but prefer the Hall Of Doors design to the Isle Of Doors design, so prefer N64 version over Dreamcast, however Revolution did not work for me, mainly cause I absolutely HATE the new hub world. So personally, I would rank: N64/ Windows. Playstation 1. Playstation 2. Have not ever played the Dreamcast version (haven't played the Windows version either but it's virtually the exact same as the N64 version).

Funnily enough I'd say Rayman 3 for the GBA is the much more complete version of Rayman 2 in 2D. It has very little to do with rayman 3. I think either they were already working on a Rayman 2 GBA version and then Rayman 3 got announced and they hastily added a couple of black lums or they were hired to do a Rayman 3 for the GBA, but never got given any material on the console game, so they just made Rayman 2 again.

Isle of doors was such a major downgrade both contextually and tonally. The Hall has way mroe of a magical spooky factor and shows elements that are in each level in its presentation. I'd say the PC version is the best as it retains everything from the N64 and looks great!

Eric, I think I love to play Dr. Mario 64 because it is a lot of fun!! I've played this game for months, but I think I played it in moderation and I played it on N64 Switch Online on Switch. Queque is my favorite music from Dr. Mario 64 because it's always fun and it is a lot of fun!! Everyone knows my favorite music from this game!! It's just a techno beat music.
