Rayman 2 PC 100% Part 19 - The Iron Mountains

9:55 Let me tell y'all the story about how I found my way through this area. When I first arrived at this place, it was pitch black. Back then, I didn't know anything about turning up the brightness on my PC. There is a wooden bridge up there, but since it was dark, I kept stumbling and falling through the gaps. And then, I actually devised a way to make it to the other platform: I use my projectile attacks. Since they provide a small amount of light, I would spam them on the bridge, then use the tiny illumination to spot the gaps. It took some painstaking effort, but I eventually made it. I was only 7 back then. It remains 1 of my proudest achievements today. Sometimes good video games force you to be creative in ways that you'd never imagine. Rayman is 1 great example.

Nice bro that happened to me but not that issue i was afraid to fight to that level when a pirate is hidden into a barrel so i throw many projectiles to wall to make them crash with wall and return to shoot that pirate

@@rubenfernandez3578 Oh yes. U mean that Barrel Pirate in The Whale Bay? Yeah it also terrified me when i first encountered it, but I got over it soon.

I had the exact same trouble with Rayman and dark areas, for months it was all too dark haha

Thank you, That is what I was looking for in my run to obtain all lums and cages :) I could never imagine that other lums are under the platform where you have to use rocket to get in there! :D

+Ethelion Sadly enough, no :( In the PS1 version you get a bonus 2D prototype level once you collect a certain amount of lums, though the other versions don't have any such awards.

RayCarrot Oh no:( Since I was 6 yo I thought there is some kind of special reward for it. And now after 12 years when u reattempt to finish the game and collect all lums and cages I found out that there is no reward for it. Anyway thanks for your help. Keep recording videos bro :)

Man, this level is rough to find all the Lums without a guide. I'm not a huge fan of this level compared to some of the others. The level's pacing just seems all over the place. The end section with riding the pirate ship just seems tacked on and just gets a bit tedious (especially if you have to revisit the level). 9:57 The 3DS (and I assume the Dreamcast version as well) randomly added a Robo-Pirate fight here). Also, at least in the 3DS version, I noticed the Plum doesn't always load which forced me to miss some Lums. The 3DS version unfortunately is very poorly optimized as I'm watching videos for the other versions.😒

Yeah I agree. From what I've heard this level was basically combined out of leftover locations from other levels, so I'd imagine that's why it seems rather messy in its design. It's also a shame that there was no fourth temple for the mask, but oh well. The part where you rescue the Globox kids is quite cool thematically, but it's quite tedious due to how slowly you move yeah.

@@RayCarrot That makes sense. I'm guessing Ubisoft wanted to get the game out the door for release, so some later level development was rushed or cut. Yeah, I would have loved like a final Sanctuary where you find the fourth Mask (possibly even have a final Guardian?). The Sanctuaries were usually pretty interesting in design. I do like the narrative idea of finding Uglette's kids as well, but I wish it was tied to a more interesting section. Like maybe a final platforming challenge that requires you to break open Cages with each set of kids? I think the platforming sections are the strongest part of this game, so it would be a nice highlight before the final levels.

@@mattb6522 The PS2 version did have a fourth guardian, but it felt really rushed so I don't think they improved much by adding it there sadly. They even gave him a subtitle which included the name "Recyclus" as he basically uses the same design as the first guardian :p

@@RayCarrot Well, I guess they tried. 😅 I think Rayman Revolution is the only version of Rayman 2 I haven't tried, but I heard some good things about it. What version of Rayman 2 is your favorite?

@@mattb6522 I honestly prefer the original PC the most, but it might be because it's the first one I played. I like some changes made in Revolution, like the new detail added to some levels, but I feel in general it lost a lot of the atmosphere which made the original so good. Too many new pirate fights, the hub worlds feel empty and many of the changes are rather inconsistent. I know a lot of people like it a lot though. The PS1 version is interesting, but rather lacking in quality compared to the other versions. I'm also not a big fan of the voice acting. What about you?

On Dreamcast version, if you go left here, there is a yellow/orange diamond you can collect idk what it does tho

Why doesn't the fourth mask of Polokus have a guardian? I mean in the non-PS2 versions. Maybe the guardian was killed offscreen by the pirates?

My theory is that the temple where it was guarded collapsed, killing the guardian. That's why a baby Globox found it while mining in the mountains. But I think it was actually a time constraint for the developers. There were a lot of changes made to the core structure of the game. At one point it looks like Jano was meant to be a guardian, but it's hard to tell.

I think the Guardian and the Mask were separated at some point, and the Mask was just lost. Baby Globox found it in a cave not many people visit, plus he's small so he can fit in tight crevaces.
