This game scared the crap out of me as a child. The music, the color scheme, how thick some of the "nasty" liquids looked, the constant threat looming over you... It was overall just an uncomfortable setting, which made it so much more memorable. Then I got to the cave of bad dreams and my 8 year old brain melted and gave up.

The feeling of being alone all the time from Rayman: Revolution was very scary and ominous for 7 year old me. I spent 2 weeks purposely not even progressing the story so I could actually experience the happier setting of this game, such as playing football with the globox kids. I completed the game, but there were 10 lums I could never find! :(

This game's artstyle is legitimately timeless. When I played this as a kid some 15 years ago, the atmosphere genuinely scarred me. I had a very real fear of The Cave of Bad Dreams when I was young. That just goes to show how well this game achieves what it sets out to do. And the music! THE MUSIC! My god! Visuals are only half the experience. The music in this game compliments each stage so perfectly. It's a true sin that Ubisoft hasn't done another 3D Rayman game since Rayman 3. They hit it out of the park with these games.

Anyone else amazed at how well this game has aged?
@Burro..5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say surprised is the word, just glad. A lot of old platformers didn't really age well, some stuff that worked 20 years ago can be really tedious nowadays. Nice to see rayman 2 is more about the fluid platforming and less about collectibles.

@august elmelund nielsen The camera is a bit janky and the combat can be a tad annoying but the platforming itself is actually still somewhat good, the sliding sections and the missile ones being the only real problematic points. I don't know exactly how these events work, but I assume it's based partially on demand, popularity, and just what timeslots are available. Final Fantasy probably gets more views than Rayman and they were likely working their schedule around it, whereas they were looking more to include Rayman in-between other runs, where a hour or two is harder to squeeze in.

Rayman 2 was my ultimate childhood game. I have so many vivid and fond memories of it, as well as memories of being absolutely terrified by it. I find it a wonderful thing to see that a lot of people seem to share that sentiment. Sadly I never finished it as a kid. Not that I was specifically bad at it, but my disc was damaged in some way and would not load the Foutch boss fight. Instead, a warning would appear that the disc was unplayable, but the warning was typed in the in-game fond and showed a pirate face in the background. Since I didn't speak english, I didn't understand the message and thought it was part of the game and I desperately combed through the first half of the game in order to find some secret that I missed. I was heartbroken when my dad finally translated the message for me. Bought Rayman Revolution in high school and finished it then. And while I loved it, I was a little too old at that point for the game to have the impact on me that it had when I was a kid. Thanks for the run, great stuff!

Man, Glackum speed running Rayman 2 absolutely dissected this game apart! This was fantastic seeing my favorite 3D platformer in a different light. Especially some of those skips that show off the whole view of the level. Such a underrated gem. Makes me disappointed that they never made a sequel in the style of Rayman 2 yet. I am not sure about the future of Rayman since his creator left Ubisoft to do his own thing, while Ubisoft still owns the rights to Rayman. (I think.) I fell in love with the nice platforming Rayman 2 does. I may have been late (I played this in 2014.) to the Rayman party, but better late than never I say. I love this game.

This game has ALWAYS stood out to me every time I reflect on all the N64 games that I played. Each was fun and amazing in its own way, but Rayman 2 had this unmatched dark, mysterious atmosphere that none of the other games had. Not to mention, the music was so different from any other game of its kind. It was more subdued than your typical 3D platformer soundtrack, and it went against the super happy go lucky trend from Banjo and Mario like games. There really isn't another game like it from its time.
