for a WIP, i think this looks awesome. I remember trying out the fairy council version of this, felt refreshing. I know al ot of people say they feel like the shaders dont fit, I mean in a sense I do agree, but at the same time It still kept its cartoony, wimiscal look. so I think its OK either way. I would love to play this one day for when it really works...

The lighting is a bit too extreme. It creates a very realistic look in terms of "oh yeah, that's what you would actually see through a camera lens if you stepped out into a sunny day from a dark interior", but I think it defeats the purpose of the toony, fantasy style/aesthetic the original game was going for. Not gonna lie, some of the lighting effects look awesome, like the beam from the green power-can actually colouring its surroundings in that sharp green glow, or the sun rays bouncing off of the dust through the window, but I'd scale down the contrast between the natural light outside and the darkness inside. Other than that, this is looking great! Can only imagine how the most visually impactful levels, like the Tower of Light or the Leptys Altar, would look like given this same treatment!

I have to agree, bumping the original game resolution up makes the game look updated and not dated. But i'm sure a good environment artist or level designer can do something much better with modern tools!

I'm not exactly sure tbh, i was thinking of implementing most of the main mechanics from the rayman games just to practice my game dev skills then add some of the most iconic maps and just share it, but i may also use it to make my own levels. Only time will tell but for now i'll just focus on polishing and implementing all of the main mechanics.

I Think this is shit honestly. Mainly cause the lighting makes colours be washed out because the lighting on the textures is waaay to bright.
