Finally thank you! Also a fun fact. When Cruyff was 37 he got into a fight with Ajax board so he went to their main rivals Feyenoord. He won them the league for the first time in 15 years at the age of 37.

@TheGiorgi7 It's well known in The Netherlands that Cruyff would often overrule many decisions Michels made after he would leave the dressing room and apply his own gameplan in the Dutch National Squad and Ajax. Total Football was Cruyff's brain child and he has the managerial skills and succeses where ever he went as a captain and coach to prove it. His footballing skills are all on film and if you don't believe me watch Maradona talk about him and The Dutch National Squad in 74 or any other Legend who saw him play.

For anyone who argues or is unclear on why Cruijff is so celebrated, as a player he introduced a method that is nowadays seen quite common, he was a full package, great midfielder, strategist, team leader and topscorer. Not only did he leave the greatest mark on the game itself, he also changed the approach of management and of course his greatest work is turning FC Barcelona into a hallmark club which has produced legend after legend in his footprint. For Dutch people he also had a strong presence in the goodwill and social development debates and hugely impacted the language by the way he talked, which was often full of mistakes and he himself was quite confused by how people wrote books and thesis on his Dutch (whereas footballers are often notorious for their lack of vocabulary). People sometimes argue that he didn't have a goal rate as high as Pele, but Pele was just a very effective midfield phenomenon, whereas Cruijff brought more to the table than just his field abilities. That is what separates Cruijff from pretty much any other player in history. When it comes strictly to the 90 minute game he may still be the greatest innovator, but much of his in game records have been broken, though not by a large group.

Great video. Cruijff is one of my favorite historic players. I would highly recommend the "Football's Greatest" episode on Johan. Rinus Michels should also be mentioned in coaching Cruijff. It was Michels who created the total football philosophy, Cruijff perfected it on the pitch.

My favorite player of all time, Neymar is my favorite player in the modern game but there’s just something about Cruyff. Smartest player on every pitch he stepped on, skills and tricks are fun but you can’t teach football intelligence & he might be the best in that regard ever. The way he moved with the ball, that only comes around once in a generation. Pele and Maradona were fantastic players but I think it’s fare to say Cruyff is the best/ most influential player/ coach with how he played then how he changed the game tactically. I was 6 years old when I saw the WC against Argentina in 1974. I was a little dutch girl sitting around the table with her father and his friends in Rotterdam. Rotterdam had a soccer-club called Feyenoord. We looked at Johan Cruyff during the World Championship we unfortunately lost. Despite this loss I saw Cruyff and I looked at him with my mouth open😱I was totally flabbergasted. During the full match I didn't move. He was a sort of Superman and Jesus in one man. After the match I heard Cruyff was from the soccer-club Ajax. The most hated club in Rotterdam. Feyenoord and Ajax were/are like Real Madrid and Barcelona. So my father and his friends (real Feyenoord fans) couldn't admire Cruyff openly...But I could! And I did😅 In Rotterdam I think I was the only one who applaused for Ajax...and for Cruyff. He was my one and only hero😍 After the sunday-matches at monday I arrived at school, happy and feeling very well, with a big smile when Ajax won. Deep silence in the classroom...😂 I accepted the bullying, the harsh words, even fights😅 all for him. JC 🌟

As much as I love the game, I never learned about Cruyff until I just finished reading the book, “The Barcelona Complex,” which I recommend everyone read. The author has Cruyff as a central part of his book, and talks much about his career as a player and a coach. The author shows how crucial Cruyff was in helping form the game as we know it now. How he helped make FC Barcelona the mega giant of a team they’ve become today. It also mentions at the end its potential downfall that we currently see with the team. But if Cruyff never joined Barcelona, we wouldn’t have seen Messi, Pep Guardiola wouldn’t have played or coached the team either. It was an amazing read and a clear understanding of how Barcelona came to be just because of Cruyff.

There’s more to a footballer than just raw talent. That’s why I would never consider Maradona the best to have ever played the game. Cruyff and how he modernised the game is much more significant than anything any other player has done in history.

Maradona was mesmerized by Cruyff and the orange team in 1974, being 12 or 13 years old at that time! As was the whole world, in sheer admiration, because here was something new. They were the best team in that period as Cruyff was the best player in the world. He did not care much about that title, he allways talked about the game, in the microscopic detail.

Superb video, one small critique, that goal shown at 2:18 is from his time at Barca not Ajax, known as the Phantom/Ghost Goal! I think it was against Atl' Bilbao. Also Barca were mid-table when he joined but after cCruyff joined they never lost again that season. You also missed the fact he returned to Ajax in his 30s helping them win the league again before being considered "too old" so he joined Feyenoord on a free and won the domestic cup double in his very last season! Great to see Cruyff get some more credit, he took Rinus Michels philosophy and improved it later on. He was also one the few players to retire at the top of his game at 35! A true legend.
