When he passed away from lung cancer in 2016, the whole nation of the Netherlands was in pure shock and grief for a full week. He was arguably our most famous and honored sportsman of the country post war. Beloved by just about anyone. Especially by people that support Ajax. At that club, my club he is a total legend and his presence is still felt in our style of play today. See our CL semi final run in 2019. That was Cruyff’s doing

I know plenty of people who did not like him one bit and I am Dutch (and not from Feyenoord). There were plenty of Barcelona fans feeling he same, due to his arrogance. Also because he was always into trouble and forced Willy van der Kuylen and Janvan Bevere from PSV ou of the 1974 squad. Mnd you: Van der Kuylen was probably the second best player in The Netherlands but also very modest and without a doubt Van Beveren was our best goalie. But Cruyff needed a fight. And that happened almost everywhere he went: great things on one hand but almost always with a downside and that downside meant victims...He is without a doubt the best football player we ever head for sure. He is in my top three actually. What is more amazing to me that surely the Death of Cruyff made a huge impact, but amazingly the death of Maradona was headline news for weeks and we could see documentaries about Diego even a year after his passing. NLs is one of the many footballnations in the world. It is the nr1 sport (well in winter it is probably icespeedskating).

Cruyff only played a friendly game in the current Ajax stadium that is currently named after him. Ajax played in de Meer stadium and their bigger games in the Olympic Stadium until 1996. The editing could have been done better in that aspect.
