Hi Andy - if you want to manually create waypoints by adding in Lat Long individually - how do you then "Create" a Route. Thank you
@Raymarine2 ай бұрын
Most people construct routes point-by-point, touching turn points with their finger on-screen. At any point you can add an existing waypoint from the waypoint list, or create a new waypoint at a specific lattitude/longitude, by long-pressing on the chart. A popup menu appears with options to Place Waypoint or Add Wpt from List. Choose to add from the list. The waypoint list opens, and on the bottom right is a button to create a new waypoint at a latitude/longitude. Touch it, enter the coordinates, and Axiom will add that specific location to your route. If you have multiple specific sets of coordinates you may wish to enter them all manually first through the waypoint manager, then when building the route, choose to go to the waypoint list where you can pull them into the route sequentially.

Great video very explicative . I would like to know in what case shou i use RESTART XTE function . Thank you
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Hello Armando. Cross Track Error (XTE) is the distance how far you are off of your plotted course line. If you were in a narrow waterway where it was shallow or hazardous at the edges and it was imperative to stay on the plotted course, knowing how far left or right of track you are can be critical. In open water, if there is no danger to the vessel, you can use the Restart XTE function to zero out the cross track error. When you touch the button a new line is plotted from your boat to the destination, and that becomes the new track to steer to. If you are following the course with your autopilot, this will give the pilot a fresh course to steer to.
@adamkessler28493 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jim for the informative videos. I just want to clarify as I think you covered this on this last video. When I put in a route and then ask the chartplotter to follow that route, my boat often takes a hard turn, even attempting to go in the opposite direction. Should I ask it to "follow from here" as remedy to that problem? Thanks.
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Thank for watching, Adam! When the autopilot follows a route, its important to know what the cross track error is as the pilot is being engaged. The pilot's priority is to get on the plotted trackline and minimize cross-track-error before it turns in the direction of the next waypoint. Follow-from-here allows you to start a route from a waypoint other than the first one. If you have already passed some of the waypoints in the route you'll definitely want to use that feature otherwise the autopilot will be steering for the first waypoint of the route.

Is it possible to select multiple/all waypoints in a route and assign the waypoints to a group? This would allow you to hide the waypoint group. Otherwise when you hide a route, the associated waypoints are still shown on the chart. Having a lot of waypoints on a chart becomes confusing especially to new crew! Thanks for these presentations and for your replies.
@Raymarine7 ай бұрын
Yes. You can multi-select waypoints and perform bulk changes to them like assigning to a group, or changing their symbol. Go into your waypoint library either through the chartplotter's main menu, or from the homescreen by going to My Data...Waypoints. Select the ALL WAYPOINTS view and there is a button there for Multi-Edit. Touch it and you can check-off however many waypoints you want to change, then assign them to a new group.

Can you hide routes and waypoints showing only the current route or no route at all? And if there are multiple routes visible, can you switch routes by clicking the other routes?
@Raymarine5 ай бұрын
Yes. You can control which waypoints and routes are visible on-screen by going into the waypoint list or route manager while you are in the Chart app. Launch the chart app, then touch Menu...Waypoints, routes, tracks...and then select Waypoints, Routes or Tracks to display the manager. For Routes and Tracks you'll see a show/hide control near the bottom. This allows you to change the view status of individual routes or tracks. If you set one or more a "hide" status, they won't be shown on the screen unless they are active. In the Waypoints menu, the show/hide control applies to groups of waypoints. The reason for this is it would be very cumbersome to individually turn on or off the visibility of individual points once you have more than a handful of them saved. You can define groups to categorize your waypoints, and then apply the show/hide status to that entire group. Keep in mind there is a pre-defined group called ALL WAYPOINTS in there. As its name implies, that group covers ALL waypoints. If you set that group to HIDE, the ALL of your waypoints will be hidden on the chart display, unless it is actively being navigated to, or part of an active route.

Hello Jim Is it possible to generate a autoroute when route planning using Navionics from a starting point not were your vessel is. Thanks Jim
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jeff. Yes, you can begin a route anywhere on the chart and then auto-route to the destination. Long press on your desired starting point and select Build Route in the popup menu that appears. Axiom will plant a green start flag icon where you touched. Next, you can scroll the chart to your destination and then long-press again. Select Autoroute to here and Axiom will construct a route between those 2 points. If there happens to been an existing waypoint already at the destination, you'll see an additional item in the popup menu "Autoroute to wpt" which will do the same thing, just using that already existing waypoint as the last waypoint of the route.

Thanks for watching George. Yes, you can link Axiom with your ST4000. You will need an accessory we make called the SeaTalk to SeaTalk NG converter, part number E22158. This device translates the older SeaTalk protocol your pilot speaks, to the newer SeaTalk NG/NMEA2000 language spoken by Axiom.

Hello Mike. You can connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to Axiom. It works quite well. From your home screen touch on the clock and then select Bluetooth Settings on the menu that appears. Turn on Bluetooth with the toggle button and Axiom will begin searching for nearby devices. Put your mouse or keyboard into pairing mode, touch it when it appears on Axiom, and you'll be connected. If you download the LightHouse 3 advanced operations manual from our website there is a list of keyboard shortcuts on page 41. Many common Axiom functions are linked to the F-keys and other keys on the keyboard and mouse. You can get that handbook PDF here: raymarine.app.box.com/s/3t839g2xf6nko4n0h9re535140rknnpz/folder/21066102633 I'll paste the shortcuts in here too, though the KZbin commenting doesn't allow for much formatting of the text so this may be hard to decipher: In addition to the usual alphanumeric keyboard functions the keyboard provides mapping of the MFD’s physical buttons, as follows: • F4 - User Programmable Button (available on Axiom Pro MFDs) - Press and hold - Choose action for button • F6 - Power/Shortcuts - Press and hold - shut down • F6 • F7 - Home • F8 - Event marker / Waypoint • F9 - Menu (App specific menu) • F11 - Switch Active • F12 - Pilot • Esc - Back • Enter - OK • Up arrow - UniControl Up • Down arrow - UniControl Down • Left arrow - UniControl Left • Right arrow - UniControl Right • Trackpad - Touchscreen / UniControl directions • Trackpad + Left trackpad button - Pan chart area (Chart app) • Trackpad + Right trackpad button - Pan chart area (Chart app) • Left trackpad button - Select / OK - Press and hold - long press (touchscreen) • Right trackpad button - OK - Press and hold - long press (touchscreen) • > - Increase MFD brightness (when Shortcuts page is displayed) / back sonar scroll-back bar in Fishfinder app • < - Decrease MFD brightness (when Shortcuts page is displayed) /forward sonar scroll-back bar in Fishfinder app • + - Range / Zoom In • - - Range / Zoom Out • Pg Up (Fn + Up arrow) - Range / Zoom In • Pg Dn (Fn + Down arrow) - Range / Zoom Out In the handbook you'll see referenced a particular ruggedized Bluetooth/Mouse trackpad combo unit called the iKey Keyboard. This is the keyboard that we certified for use with Axiom, mainly for the US Coast Guard and our first responder customers. In my experience any standard Bluetooth mouse, keyboard, or combo will also work. There is a microUSB accessory connector on the back of Axiom and Axiom Pro models. If you plug a USB OTG host cable in there, you can convert that plug to a standard USB connection, and then you can use a regular USB keyboard or mouse (wired or wireless.) Of course, if you do that the accessory port is no longer available for an external card reader. Axiom XL units have a normal USB host port on the back. You can connect a mouse/keyboard in there too on those units.

I know you're not the Navionics guy - but had two questions. When you auto route a set of waypoints, (I know the chart will take in consideration the draft of the boat), but do you know what the buffer added to the draft depth is the programs will add for determine the routes? Also, You mentioned the "!" that will appear on some of the waypoints for areas of concern. When I click on those in Navionics, they don't tell me what the concern is, (i.e. Depth, submerged rock pile, etc). Any idea how to identify what the "concern is at that ! mark? Thanks for the help.
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hello Craig. I will check with our engineers to confirm, but I don't believe it adds any buffer or safety factor other than the draft you specify in the boat settings. The depth soundings on the chart are all referenced to Mean Lower Low Water (which is the standard) so they represent the nearly worst-case with regard to shallow water. The "!" callouts do indicate nearby hazards to be aware of, but unfortunately the routing algorithm does not call them out by name. If you put your cursor in that vicinity, long-press and select Chart Details it will list all of the chart-related items near that point. That should help to identify what it is concerned about.

Any ideas? I have pictures. thank you.
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Hello Germán. Your A50D does offer a chart offset option that can be used to correct for any minor discrepancies between the GPS and mapping. You can inject up to 1000 meters of offset. You'll find it in the Chart Setup menu. Press and hold the Page/Menu button, highlight Chart Setup and press to the right to enter. Down the menu a ways you will see Chart Offset. Turn it on, and then you can adjust the positioning using the trackpad to adjust North/South and East/West corrections. Its important to realize that any offset you are seeing is caused by some inaccuracy on your chart chip, and it might not be consistent in all locations across the area it covers. Errors should be reported to Navionics for correction.

When doing wireless sync between LH/Axiom and Navionics mobile, with both having active subscriptions, how are duplicates handled? Does LH send all the marks associated with routes to Navionics? If so, the number of marks in Navionics becomes very large and confusing. The only way to group marks on Navionics is by icon. I have 601 non-route marks in navionics mobile now and it took awhile to parse them from the 6200 marks that were there.
@Raymarine7 ай бұрын
Hello Jim. When items are synced from Navionics to Raymarine, they are saved to the Navionics card into a folder as a GPX file. You can manually select to import waypoints and routes in bulk, or individually. If Axiom senses duplicates on the import it will ask what you want to do. You can create a duplicate, overwrite, or skip. When the sync goes in the opposite direction, the Navionics Boating app only syncs items that have been first saved to back to the Navionics card. That triggers the sync and it is imported. This appears to be an overwrite function, as i believe storage of "Marks" (waypoints) in the Navionics app is tracked by unique name. In my testing of it, it never gave me any options and it handled the sync on its own. I didn't see any duplication happen.

@RaymarineInc: I have a powerboat with an axiom. How can I search for a marina BY NAME which may be many nautical miles away (so Axiom's search nearby feature doesn't find it) from the boat's current location and then autoroute to it? @Raymarine6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and submitting a question, Jeffrey. You can still use the Find Nearest search to look for a distant marina, but what you need to do first is pan the chart into the general vicinity of that location. You can be zoomed out fairly wide to do this. Using the locations you mentioned, on my Axiom here I have my boat sitting off the coast of California. The chart I have inserted is the Navionics+ North America. I panned the chart up so I can see a very wide area of the Pacific Northwest, from Oregon to the San Juan islands where I know Roche Harbor is, approximately. I long press in the center of that area, select More Options...Find Nearest....Port. I just typed in "Roche" and hit search. It took about 20 seconds, but I had Roche Harbor, Roche harbor Resort and Roche Harbor Town Docks all returned as results. I touched on Roche Harbor Town Docks, and then there is an option there for "Autoroute to." Give that a shot on your system and I think it should work for you too.

Hello Paul. When you create your first waypoint of the day, touch the options button and assign it to a group. You can also create a new group at this time, if needed. All other waypoints will be assigned to that same group. We have a new feature in the works for our next release (a few weeks away) that should make this even easier for you. We'll have more details on it soon, but essentially you'll be able to configure the system to automatically create a new waypoint group at the start of each day, thus simplifying this for you.
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. Be sure to update your system to the new LightHouse 3.15 Guadeloupe. There is a new feature in there that specifically answers your request called Daily Event Groups. Go to your waypoint list and switch it on there. From the chart application go to Menu...Waypoints/Routes/Tracks....Waypoints. Look on the right column and there is now a switch labeled "Create Daily Event Groups." When you turn that on, every day Axiom will create a new waypoint group for the day automatically, and that day's waypoints will be automatically dropped into it.

Thanks for the great content. Really informative. When I follow a route on my chart plotter occasionally the system skips a waypoint and jumps to the waypoint one after the next along the route. This seems to happen when there is a safe direct route to the waypoint further away and the system might have decided to literally cut a corner. I find the behaviour really strange though especially as it happens pretty much on every route that I set. Am I missing something?
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hello Lars. Check the settings for your waypoint arrival radius. I assume you have an Axiom. On the Home screen touch Alarms...then the Settings Tab and scroll down to Waypoint Arrival. The waypoint arrival alarm can be silenced by turning off the switch there. For now, I suggest you turn this on so you'll receive an audible and visual alert whenever a waypoint is reached. Below the on/off switch there are 3 different rules for arrival radius. If the alarm is turned off, waypoints will still advance according to those rules. The first one, Arrival Radius, is the setting for when a route is being followed by the MFD, but its not beeing steered by a Raymarine MFD. The second one, Pilot track mode radius, is the value it uses when the MFD has pilot control enabled, and the pilot is following a route. You can choose to have it use a different arrival radius if you want. The third one, Search route radius, is for rare occasions when you are using one of the Search and Rescue patterns to search for someone or something in the water. I am thinking that maybe you have the alarm turned off, and the arrival radius value set larger that you want it to be, making it look like it is skipping waypoints.
@larsklawitter4233 жыл бұрын
@@Raymarine thanks a lot for the swift reply! The waypoint arrival alarm had been on and both the arrival radius as well as the pilot track mode radius had been on 185m. I checked one of the instances when the MFD had skipped a WP (I had taken a photo of the screen, showing the scale) and the waypoints were all significantly more than 185m apart. I’ve reduced both values now to 100m and will try again.

When we select follow route our axiom locks in the heading and follows this heading when autopilot is engaged, but does not take into account set so follows the heading but won’t go to the waypoint. Any clues what is happening there?
@Raymarine2 жыл бұрын
Hello David. It sounds to me like your autopilot is going into locked heading mode (steer to heading) rather than Track mode (track to a waypoint.) If you have the autopilot integration turned on in Axiom, it will ask you whether or not you want to activate the autopilot in track mode whenever you specify a waypoint or route as the destination. If you go to Home...Settings....Autopilot you can turn on Axiom's pilot integration. Its also possible to initiate track mode on your autopilot controller. First bring the pilot from standby to automatic (locked heading mode) by pressing the Auto key. Then, with a waypoint or route active on Axiom press Menu...Mode...Track on your pilot controller. The controller looks to the navigation network for a destination and then you'll get an audible alarm and visual confirmation on the controller for the bearing it intends to turn to. Press Track to confirm it is safe to turn and proceed and the pilot will navigation to the next destination. Upon arriving at your destination, if there is another waypoint in sequence, the pilot will alarm, display the new course, and await your confirmation before it turns. While waiting it will maintain the course it is currently on. When safe to turn, press Track again and the pilot will turn to the next waypoint in sequence. At anytime you can touch Standby to return to normal hand steering control. Touching Auto or Cancel will return the pilot to locked heading mode on the current locked heading. When the pilot is in Track mode, it will take set and drift into account as it navigates to the next waypoint. If the wind and current are considerable, you may see the pilot steer the boat slightly into the wind or current to compensate, keeping the boat tracking right down the rhumb line to your destination.

Currently the Navionics Boating app and Axiom will automatically exchange data when the app detects that your device is connected to Axiom's Wi-Fi network. Its important to know though that the waypoints and routes coming from the app to Axiom are not automatically dropped into Axiom's waypoint and route library. Thanks for the video. Never got an email for the fremantle update. Went ahead and did that today. Hopefully it fixes the phantom restarts that have been an issue for me since doing the original fremantle update

Hello Russ. Glad to hear you found the update. Sorry to hear about phantom restarts. That should never happen. Shoot me an email if it is still giving you any trouble. james.mcgowan@raymarine.com.

I just purchased an axiom 7 about a week ago. Why can't I change the ship position on my charting from center to the bottom of the chart? The choice is in the menu but it is not highlighted. Thank you.
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hello Timothy. Double check that you have not put the system into True Motion or Auto-Range modes. Vessel offset is not compatible with those modes. You find them in the chart app. Touch Menu....Settings....View & Motion.

Is there a way to upload your GPX waypoints/routes to Axiom wirelessly without having to Navionics?
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hello Robert. At the present time, no. GPX can be transferred over Wi-Fi by Navionics boating, or, you can transfer GPX files via microSD cards.

How do I enter the coordinates in Raymarine manually
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
In your chartplotter app go to Menu....New....Waypoint and Lat/Long. You'll see a screen that allows you to type the coordinates in directly.
I am having a problem with waypoints. I have discussed this with a tier 2 tech but we have not found a solution. I had upgraded to the latest lighthouse version 4.87. 1. When you hide a route, it does not hide the waypoints associated with the route. This leads to confusing mess on the screen and it is potentially dangerous, especially to less skilled navigators. 2. The solution was to hide ALL waypoints then when you show a route the waypoints associated with that route will also show. This was a good workaround except there are many waypoints that we need to see that are unrelated to routes. For example, we have scuba, fishing and hazard waypoints that we need to see. 3. The next idea was to rename the waypoints or add a comment on them so that I could then sort them and add them to a group such as scuba, fishing or hazard. When I tried to sort the waypoints, the sort option is greyed out. 4. I then tried a system reset, a power hard reset, then installed an earlier version of lighthouse 3.16.84. None of those things corrected the problem with sorting. 5. I have 2363 waypoints. Is there a limit to how many waypoints can be sorted? 6. Is there any way to sort/group waypoints outside of lighthouse, then import them as grouped waypoints? I could easily work with my normal pc charting software Rosepoint Coastal Navigation to do that.
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
For points 1, 2 and 3, consider sorting your "always need to be on" waypoints into groups. In the waypoint manager you can create groups for Scuba, Fishing, Hazards, etc, and then re-assign those waypoints to their respective group categories. You can then show or hide them based on their group assignment. This leaves you able to turn off all of the other route-associated waypoints so they are not visible unless their route is active. You can have up to 10,000 individual waypoints. You can also have up to 200 Group names defined for sorting them. We support the import and export of routes and waypoints using GPX files, which should work with Rosepoint software. You can create a GPX file for export, or import one, through the My Data menu on the Homescreen. Touch Home...My Data....Import Export, and you'll see options to both save your data (to a microSD card) or import data (from a micro SD card.)

Thanks Jim, That's the solution I ended up with. No one seems to know how many marks cause LH to not be able to sort so I have to export in very small groups. 1. Will LH recognize a duplicate mark from name or lat/lon when importing from sd card? 2. I think the large number came in during an earlier sync with Axiom. I have not set up the sync link again yet.

My auto piolet will not stop turning us around to follow the last rout how do we stop it?

Hello Jane. It sounds like you might need to expand the arrival radius around your waypoint a bit more so the boat is actually breaking the radius and the chartplotter and autopilot are advancing to the next waypoint in the sequence. If you have an Axiom chartplotter go to Home....Alarms....Settings....Waypoint Arrival. You can change the arrival radius there. You can also manually advance the waypoint to the next one in the sequence from your plotter. While in the chart application touch Menu...Navigation....Advance Waypoint.

Can i put in a larger gb micro sd card in before downloading the platinum + card instead of useing the small 16gb card it comes with???
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sawduster. Navionics cards are pre-programmed and encrypted to the microSD cards they provide and can't be transferred onto another card. Axiom reads the Navionics chart data from the card while its plugged into the unit.

I learned how to set the autoroute which is awesome. On my GPS, I can find the distances between waypoints (DTW) but can't find how i track the progress to my ultimate destination. I am sure it is there. What is it called?
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. In Axiom's data library there are options to display the Route ETA (time and date) , Route TTG (time to go), or Route ETA (time only). These values could be displayed as a floating date item over the chart (or any other window.) You could also add them to the Data 1 or Data 2 swipe-out-sidebar, or you can display them on a dashboard page. One data item that seems to be missing from our library at the moment is a Route Distance Remaining. I have this logged a a feature request and I'm hopeful we'll see it soon in an update.

@@Raymarine Thank you for this answer. I also found a field under navigation called Distance to Go (DTG) which shows the balance of trip which I set. It worked once, but then failed to work. How do I get this field to work?

The position and movement of the boat icon comes from the GPS. The orientation of the bow of the boat icon is set by your electronic compass (if you have one.) Often that is part of your autopilot. If your boat is crabbing or oriented incorrectly you may need to align the heading on your compass or autopilot.

I want to remove unused installed apps. After long pressing on app and clearing app data the app icon still remains.

Hi Chris. Some of the apps are removable, some are not. With the long-press those that can be removed will have a menu option "Uninstall Application." I will check with our product team to see if there is a way to remove any others.

excellent presentation - despite being a 3yr user of axiom, i still found this a good refresher and rediscovered some things .. its still a little confusing the sync between axiom and navionics boating… in thedirection boating app to axiom: you use an intermediate step - well covered in video, however in other direction?

and a suggestion for next? tutorials .. the LH3 firmware update process (options) and particulary with networked (multiple) axioms… including the recent “gotcha” that requires? an additional sdcard in networked devices? to get them to update succesfully. … ive had some frustrating experiences with recent updates
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg. In the other direction it is pretty much automatic. A route that exists on Axiom, but not on the Navionics app, will sync automatically to the app when the mobile device connects. Touch Route....My Routes Archive on the app and those routes should be visible after that initial sync completes.

We'll get a refresher in on updates, for sure. There is another update coming shortly for Axiom systems (3.15 Guadaloupe will be the name.)

When adding a waypoint the system gives it a name ex. Waypoint 123. This is fine, except the name is too long and occupies display area. Better would be Wpt 123. At the moment there is no way to multiedit all waypoints into wpt. Have I missed some feature?
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jukka. If you want to bulk-edit the names of your waypoints you'd probably want to export them from your MFD and do it on some PC-based management software, then re-import them. Currently the multi-edit allows you to change the symbol assignments, move between groups, or delete multiple waypoints at the same time. I will feedback your comment about the length of the default name to our product team.

Can one import routes from google earth Kml file?
@Raymarine3 жыл бұрын
Hello Marty. Present we don't accept KML files, but you can use a 3rd party tool to convert KML to GPX pretty easily. There are some free websites that can do the conversion "in the cloud" or there are inexpensive or freeware software tools that can do it too.

When you say Navionics “syncs” with Raymarine, that’s really not true. It exports data to the external SD card. You then have to manually import the data from the card into the MFD. I hope the product team decides to add true syncing functionality which exists in other MFD brands in the market. The extra steps of having to import/export is a pain in the butt. Particularly when you’re on the go. Please catch up to your competitors with this functionality!!

Thank you for the feedback Jeff. You're right in that it does require a manual import of the data synced to the Navionics card into Axiom's waypoint and route library. I'll make sure our product team sees this.
