Jim, you and this channel are an absolute asset to Raymarine and clientele. My local rep, great guy (Mike Surdyk, Pacific Northwest), is setting me up with an ECI100 so my 2023 Suzuki DF350s will talk to my 12” Axiom Pro and both 9” Axioms. I had no idea I could customize the side bars with engine info. I love the idea of taking up minimal space to show critical motor temps, pressures, etc. Thank you!

Good Presentation and overview of how the systems work together. Just went through this with a 2007 22' lake boat w Volvo Penta I/O 5.0 GM based engine management computer. Motivation for my install was need for accurate rpm and speed data. Inoperative Speedometer and lack of confidence in OEM tach. Started with FoxMarine gateway projecting via bluetooth to my android based smartphone. Of course this gave me the itch to put in a MFD and spend more $$. Some head scratching along the way to get it to fit on my small dash area. Turned out pleased with this gateway feeding my Axiom 7.

Hello Jim, I have a Volvo Penta D1-30 and the Raymarine Axiom MFD. To get the data from the engine to the MFD, do I connect the Raymarine ECI 100 with the Y loom cable E70241 to the engine MDI multi link plug?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Ricardo. The cabling you'll need depends a bit on the age of your Volvo Penta system and what cabling method was used by your boat builder to install it. Volvo's EVC (electronic vessel control) system is their network that carries data between engines, displays and controls. Raymarine's ECI-100 is a gateway device that can be connected into the EVC system, creating a SeaTalk NG/NMEA2000 data connection. The ECI-100 also provides opto-isolation between the SeaTalk NG/NMEA2000 network and the Volvo EVC network. This is required by Volvo to protect their network from any possible interference. Most recent Volvo Penta systems utilize a Multi-Link hub to connect together various Volvo components. These hubs have 6 connections. The hub is normally yellow in color. Empty ports will normally have black weather covers installed in them to keep debris and moisture out. 1 port on the hub needs to be empty to plug in the ECI-100. You'll make that connection using a Volvo Link cable, part number E70240. It has the Volvo connector on one end, and a NMEA2000 DeviceNet connection on the other that will connect to the ECI-100. Older Volvo Penta systems did not use Multi-link hubs. Instead, those systems were cabled together using Volvo engine bus cable. These Volvo engine bus cables came in fixed lengths with ends that plugged together allowing you to combine them for longer runs, or create drops to plug in components. If you have this kind of system then you will use the E70241 Y-Loom cable to create a drop to connect the ECI-100 in. The other port on the ECI-100 is a standard SeaTalk NG spur connection. Use a spur cable (supplied in the kit) to plug into an empty spur port in the SeaTalk NG network. There are some illustrations of ECI-100 in a Volvo Penta EVC network in our ECI-100 installation guide: www.raymarine.com/multifunction-displays/accessories/engine-interfacing/eci-100/

@Raymarine
@Raymarine 2 жыл бұрын
Ouch! This is a tough one Tracy. With a lightning strike, pretty much everything onboard the boat that is electronic becomes suspect. Often it is necessary to go component-by-component through the system to determine what is actually working, and what is not.

I appreciate for your video. I've installed today the same configuration as described at 30:36. My MFD is Axiom XL 16/Yamaha F200XCA/6YG/6YC and digital throttle connected to Command link plus hub.Everything works the same as in your case but I can't see the gear data on the Yamaha page. Is there any way to get it ?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. You should see the transmission gear indicator just above the tachometer in a small circle. The indicators are F (forward), R (reverse), N (neutral) or - (no data detected.) If you are not seeing that, I would start by making sure your Axiom displays are updated to the latest software version. That will ensure you have all the latest changes in your system. If the transmission gear indicator is still not showing after that, I recommend having a Yamaha dealer check that your gateway electronics have the latest software installed as well.

@@Raymarine Thanks for the reply. The first thing I did when I installed the Axiom XL 16 is to update the operating system to the most recent one, which is LH4.5.84 at the moment. However, it still doesn't display the gear position in the circle you mentioned. Could this be related to an engine issue, such as the absence of an optional sensor for the gear position or something similar? And would you recommend that I perform a full factory reset of the MFD after the Lighthouse upgrade before reaching out to the Yamaha dealer regarding this issue?

I have a Sionyx nightwave camera which is absolutely great. How can I display the image on my Axiom 12's (classic) ? I now have them on a tablet via bluetooth, but would be great to have them on the Axiom
@Raymarine
@Raymarine Ай бұрын
Hello Dave. This is a bit of a tricky one. Your Axiom 12 supports only cameras with a digital, video-over-IP output. The Sionyx Nightwave camera uses Wi-Fi to connect to its app, and basic analog video to connect to external monitors, MFDs, etc. Your Axiom 12 and the Nightwave camera are not directly compatible with each other for this reason. Our Axiom Pro, Axiom XL, Axiom 2 Pro and Axiom 2 XL models do offer an analog video input on them, but unfortunately the Axiom and Axiom+ models do not have analog input. There is a solution to this, but it requires sourcing some 3rd party hardware and then configuring it to work with your equipment. Axis Communications is a company that specializes in CCTV security camera equipment. The made a device called the M7011 Video Encoder. This small network device converts the output of analog video cameras to video over IP. This device, with the proper firmware installed, works great on the Raymarine network. We used to recommend it all the time for owners of older FLIR night vision cameras that had the same issue as you; analog output camera to a digital only chartplotter. The hitch is that this M7011 encoder is discontinued, and the firmware revision it needs to run on the Raymarine network is an older version that is not supplied by the manufacturer anymore. This encoder is still available online from many different vendors, however they are becoming more and more scarce as time goes on. This scarcity is also reflected in their price. Looking online right now they are going for about $300. Please feel free to email me at james.mcgowan@raymarine.com and I can fill you in on how you'd need to set this up to make it work with Axiom.
@davedavids9619
@davedavids9619 Ай бұрын
@Raymarine thanks for the explanation. Am not a computer wizard, so getting equipment to work without the correct firmware will be impossible for me. I guess the only thing for me to do is to keep it on my tablet, pity. Could be a good idea for Raymarine to adapt the same technology as Sionyx (amplifying existing light next to infra red. It is affordable for all of us who don't own a superyacht and it functions perfect. Just in rainy weather the image is limited, but otherwise crystal clear. It has made our night passages so much safer. I also have the Cam 300, but that image is severely limited compared to Sionyx. Thanks again for eplaining.

Owner of 2xAxiom 9' and 1 x Axiom 12' in my boat with dual CAT 435 Hp. Everything intergrated good. On navigation, when I put "go to" waypoint, the system draws a direct line to the waypoint and does not "plot" the optional route. If I put manually the destination point, then it plots the route but with no data (distance, time, ETA....). Can we do something about that???
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the show! I think the feature you are looking for is automatic routing. The "GoTo Waypoint" command always creates a direct point A to point B destination, and does not take into account any obstacles. If you are running C-MAP or Navionics charts on your system you should be able to long-press on your desired destination, and then select "Autoroute To Here" from the popup menu. The routing algorithm will take into account your boat's draft, beam and height* and plot a favorable route to the destination using the navigation aids, depths, etc. on the navigation chart. If you run Navionics charts, they do need to be activated and on a current "Freshest Data" subscription. A 1-year subscription to the program is included with every new chart purchase and can be renewed after that. You can activate your charts on Navionics.com. *C-MAP autorouting includes vessel height along with draft and beam in its calculations. Navionics only uses draft and beam. ETA, Distance, etc. is available on the swipe-out sidebar, or you can add data overlays to the chart with that information.
@panagiotiskostopoulos3130
@panagiotiskostopoulos3130 3 жыл бұрын
@@Raymarine Thank you for your answer. This is exactly what I am asking from your software people to fix, the option "go to" waypoint should NOT create a straight line, it should take into consideration obstacles. I have Navionics charts all updated etc etc and the only way to get close to what I am looking for is to ask the "go to" to plot the line and give me distance, ETA etc etc and then go manually to my destination, place a pin and then ask "autoroute" to draw the optimal line. Problem is that the data I see are from the go to straight line, so not accurate. If the "go to" plots a correct route taking into consideration the obstacles and boat details, we could with one action have our route with correct data.
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback on GoTo Waypoint. I'll have a chat with our product team and see what we can do with it. Since you are running Navionics you should be able to simply long-press on your desired destination and select "AutoRoute to Here" from the popup menu. That function should do exactly what you are asking, if I am understanding correctly. It will create a route from your present location to the destination, taking into account obstacles.

How would I set up a repeater for inside the sailboat for an axiom chart plotter? Can I use an iPad or other tablet in conjunction with the app? How much control can I have with such a tablet if possible?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 8 ай бұрын
There are a few ways to setup a 2nd station inside the boat. Option 1 is to install an additional Axiom display of any size or style and connect the RayNet high speed network from it back to your original Axiom. This option gives you full, independent control at the 2nd location. Admittedly though, this is the most expensive option, and it requires some wiring too. Option 2 is to use a mobile device like a phone or table running the Raymarine app. The app is free, and available for Apple and Android devices. You'll link your phone or tablet to Axiom's Wi-Fi hotspot. The app will repeat whatever is on the Axiom's screen, and you have full touchscreen control from the remote device. Option 3 is to use Axiom's Miracast video streaming capability to stream the video output wirelessly from Axiom to a compatible Smart TV or monitor. Miracast is an HDMI over Wi-Fi technology. Most Smart TVs support it. You can also purchase low-cost Miracast HDMI dongles that will plug into any screen with an HDMI port to make them Miracast compatible. This lets you see Axiom at another location. If you want to control it there too you could connect a wireless mouse or mouse/keyboard combo to Axiom's Bluetooth adapter. That is how I remote-control the Axiom I use in the studio for the Raymarine Live broadcasts. When a mouse is linked to Axiom you'll see a mouse pointer on-screen.

Hello KMT. I see Westerbeke offers NMEA2000 as an option on many of their diesel generator sets going back to 2008 or so. I don't see much related to their gas models though. I was doing some digging and see that their EFI gas models to have a diagnostic port that can be read with a Windows PC and their software. That means that they are outputting something...what format its in is to be determined. I just sent a B2B message to a contact as Westerbeke to see what information they might have on this. Hello Joseph. You probably have our e-Series, eS-Series or gS-Series screens on your boat. These units run our LightHouse 2 operating system. Engine data connects using NMEA2000 data, and will come into any Raymarine MFD through its SeaTalk NG or NMEA2000 port. This video might be helpful to you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXbXhql7pdpjhdk The MFD featured is our Axiom-series products, but the way they connect to engine systems is the same as for prior generations of products too. Is there a connector for a Tohatsu 6hp 4 stroke outboard?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Tim. I don't see any mention of data capability on the smaller Tohatsu portable outboards. Their larger models mention a system called TOCS (Tohatsu Onboard Communication System) which is a CAN bus network to support optional gauges and instruments. They specifically mention that system is NMEA2000 compatible. We'd be able to take TOCS data and display it on Axiom's engine pages in the dashboard app. The TOCS web page got into a bit of detail about which of their motors offer the system. You can see it here: www.tohatsu.com/marine/int/accessories/gauges.html If you want a relatively simple solution to get some basic engine data from your outboard, take a look at this unit from Yacht Devices: www.yachtd.com/products/outboard.html

@Raymarine
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
Engine data is displayed in Axiom's Dashboard app. Before you open it though, go to Home...Settings...Boat Details and scroll down to the Engine section. Set your engine manufacturer to "Other" and tell Axiom how many engines you have. This will ensure that the Dashboard page for engines is setup to display the proper number of engines. Exit back to the home screen and touch Dashboard. You may need to scroll through its available pages until you get to its engine data screen. NMEA 2000 engine data should populate those gauges. Axiom also has a NMEA 2000 data reader for diagnostic and troubleshooting. Go to Home...Settings...Network...Diagnostics...NMEA Devices & Messages. The YDEG Device should be listed there, and if you touch on it you can see the basic data it is sending.

Jim, I bought a commercial tour boat with older Detroit Diesel 8V-92-TAs. Can I integrate with Axiom? Also would love to speak with you regarding drone integration.
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary. Many of the Detroit Diesel motors support J1939 engine data. If your motors have any kind of electronic instrumentation connected to them now, that is most likely what they are using. You'd need to use a J1939 to NMEA2000 adapter to make it work. If your engine instruments are all analog gauges then you could use one of the analog to digital conversion products, though they need a bit more setup. Feel free to shoot me an email to james.mcgowan@raymarine.com about drone integration.

Garry, did you get it figured out? I also have 8v92, but I don't think it's about the engine in particular: we can buy transduceres that output NMEA 2000 and it'll integrate. A more subtle problem might be that (per the manual and online docs) there's no high temperature transcucer interface built in. For the exhaust gas manifold, you'll want that (and I do too!) to get early warning if any number of cooling mishaps occur.

Thanks Jim really great video and very usefull. My question is; what do i do on my sailboat if I want to monitor my Yamaha 4JH110 and Cummins Onan Marine QD genset on my dashboard. Is it possible to achieve this. Would be great even if we can do this on separate custom data pages. That way I can see whats going on with my Engine and also with my genset. I think I can connect with using YatchDevices. For Yamaha :"Engine Gateway YDEG-04 with Raymarine SeaTalk NG connector" with the option of "Yanmar 4JH adaptor cable" and for Cummiins Onan "YDEG-04 with Raymarine SeaTalk NG connector". Would Axiom Pro enable to configure these 2 different engines so I see them on my Axiom ?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching the show, Oguz. What you are looking to do should be possible. Axiom will see each engine as a separate NMEA2000 device. You would need to build some custom data pages in the dashboard app to see everything. I do suggest getting in touch with YachtDevices to make sure their gateway will work with each of your devices as desired. That is really the critical part of the connection. Once the data is made available on NMEA2000, getting Axiom to display it is fairly easy. One note, on monitoring the generator. At the moment we don't have very many data fields for the generator-specific electrical stats. Things like the AC output voltage, frequency, etc. We'll be able to read all of the common engine data values for it though. Things like RPM, oil temp, oil pressure, hours, coolant temp, etc.

Using Actisense EMU-1 and an Axiom +, can I set up alarms for the engine data coming through NMEA2000? Like high temp. low oil pressure etc. I currently use a Garmin unit and it is not possible there. I can view the data, but there is no option to set up alarms for the NMEA2000 data. Also, can I add the NMEA2000 data on the map screen on an Axiom? I think so but want to be sure.
@Raymarine
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
Engine alarm thresholds would need to be configured outside of Axiom. Typically the engine system or engine gateway device would be where this happens. You may want to check and see if they can be configured in the EMU-1. NMEA 2000 data can be displayed on the map, or any other screen on Axiom is a couple of different ways. If you swipe in from the left edge of the screen there is a sidebar with 2 data panels. Long-press on any cell and you can edit the type of data presented there. Axiom also supports up to 4 floating data items on any display page. Touch Menu...Settings...Page Settings...Edit Data Overlays...Add. From here you'll see the data library where you can drill down through the different categories of information and choose what to display. Once added to the screen, drag to move it anywhere. Tap the item and you'll see some options for resizing the item too. Touch SAVE to save it.

Hello Nicholas. Your CAT engines pre-date NMEA 2000 electronic data, so you might have to rely on a 3rd party solution to convert any electronic data from your engines to NMEA 2000 format for display on Axiom. As a starting point, a big determining factor will be whether your current CAT gauges are analog or digital. If they are digital, it may be possible to use a 3rd party adapter from someone like YachtDevices to get a data feed for Axiom. If your gauges currently are all analog, then you'd need to look at an analog-to-digital option like the ActiSense EMU-1, Noland RS-11, or other options. These are much more complicated to setup. Feel free to send me an email to james.mcgowan@raymarine.com and please include a few shot of your helm and current engine readouts.

Hello Douglas. From what I can find online, it appears that NMEA 2000 support is available only on 2005 and newer 115 to 200 horsepower ETEC motors. The connector on your ECU is most likely the diagnostic service connector. I have not seen a gateway device for your engine, unfortunately. It might be worth posting an email to the team at Yacht Devices, as they have some options for J1939, J1708 and other common engine protocols. It is possible that your generation Evinrude outputs one of those, but I can't find many details online about them. Where they support so many different data protocols, they may have some familiarity with your situation. yachtdevicesus.com/

If your boat has a Mercury VesselView display of some kind onboard, that may be the source of the datastream feeding to Axiom. Many of the later model VesselView displays do support NMEA2000 networking. There would be a spur cable fed from the back of that display plugged into Axiom's SeaTalk NG network. The data is carried from the engines to the helm on Mercury's SmartCraft network. SmartCraft links together your engines, throttles, gauges, and other Merc-specific hardware. Sometimes there is a Smartcraft hub inside the helm that links many of the Mercury devices together. Depending on the capability of your engine display, there could be an optional VesselView NMEA2000 gateway providing data to Axiom. This is a black-box device (no screen, just some LED status lights) and it would similarly also be plugged into the SeaTalk NG network.

There are some settings there where you can configure the maximum RPM for the tachometer, and define a custom red zone too. I will do a bit of research on the temperature gauge. I don't see a control to adjust it. If you could, please shoot me an email to james.mcgowan@raymarine.com so I can get back to you with a better answer on that.

Hello Efrain. Yamaha offers a NMEA2000 gateway device that will provide data to Axiom and also activate our built-in Yamaha app. Its commonly called a "6YG" gateway, and your Yamaha dealer can get you one, or you can find them online too. Here is one example online: www.simyamaha.com/command-link-plus-and-command-link-n2k-gateway-kit-with-pigtail-wire-6y8-82521-01-00-6yg-8a2d0-00-00kit/

Hello Matt. Sorry to hear that the touchscreen is giving you trouble. Adding an RMK-9 or RMK-10 to the network would be your best bet. Unfortunately the C125 can't remote control the a128, but the RMK-10 can remote control both of them. It does plug in using a RayNet Ethernet cable. Assuming your 2 screens are connected to each other already, you can plug the keypad unit into an empty Network port on either one.

I would like to ask you: I have made the installation from Yamaha to Raymarine but the autopilot does not work because I get an alarm "the satellite signal is weak" I think it is because the Yamaha GPS hits against the Raymarine GPS, is it possible? What do you recommend me to do? Disconnect a GPS? Which one? Thank you very much in advance, Best regards.

Hello Eugeni. I'd need to know a bit more about your system setup and the position of your antennas. It sounds like you have a Yamaha system with a joystick controller in it, so we don't want to disconnect its GPS receiver as it is a critical part of that system. @Raymarine
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
Hello Pedro. Unfortunately in some Yamaha installations the fuel tank level is not sent over NMEA2000. Most of the time these types of installations had an analog fuel level sender connected to the OEM Yamaha gauge that was interpreted separate from the rest of the engine data. You might be able to change your tank level sender to a NMEA 2000 compatible unit if you have access to the top of the tank. We particularly like Oceanic Systems brand NMEA 2000 tank level senders, but there are others too that can do the job. Just look for NMEA 2000 compatibility. The Oceanic Systems ones can be calibrated from your Axiom display, where other brands would need to be externally calibrated.

Hi Garrett. You'd probably want to have a chat with a local marine electronics dealer before buying anything, but it should be possible to use one of the analog to NMEA2000 digital conversion systems to get some data from your engines. The Noland RS-11, Actisense EMU-1, AlbaCombi Translate are all possibilities. The most important thing to know about any of them is none is a plug-and-play solution. You will need to find the analog sending units and lines on your motors, identify the signaling wires, and then connect and calibrate them on the electronic converter. Once installed and configured these systems do work pretty well, but they are a bit of a project to get setup.

Hi Jim, first thanks for the very detailed explanations. May be I missed among this bunch of info but I have 2 questions. Can we see the range data on MFDs? I mean I’m headed to X, consuming 156 lt/h , imagine there is still 110 miles to my target and I am not sure if the fuel on board (X%) is sufficient to make me reach my target? Or somehow do we need a calculator?😊 My second question is, on Axiom can we do autorouting? I.e. Just enter the starting point (Istanbul) and the arrival point (Antalya). Does Axiom generate an auto route like navionics mobile app? Thanks in advance and have a great weekend. Cheers, Hakan
@Raymarine
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Hakan. Axiom can estimate your remaining range. In order for it to do this it needs to know how much fuel you have onboard, and how fast the fuel is being consumed. The calculations are made using a combination of Axiom's fuel manager, plus from live fuel consumption data from the engines or a fuel flow sensor. Assuming you have all the right hardware in place and connected go to Home...My Data...Fuel/Trip...Fuel Setup. There you can setup the fuel manager, tell Axiom how much fuel the boat holds, and signal to it when tanks are full. Axiom then uses the burn data from your fuel flow senders to estimate the range. Fuel range can be added as a data item to any screen, either on the data sidebar or as a floating on-screen data item. In the data menu its under the Fuel Category, called Distance to Empty. There is also Time to Empty. Axiom support automatic routing, but only with either Navionics or C-MAP electronic charts.

Hello Nick. The connection between your engine and Axiom is done with NMEA2000. The data should shown in the Dashboard application on its engine page. You might want to double check how the connection is made. The cable from the engine won't plug directly into Axiom. Rather, it will connected into a NMEA2000 or SeaTalk NG backbone that is powered and terminated. If you're still having trouble getting it all connected up please open a ticket with us over at raymarine.custhelp.com with a detailed list of what components you are using (especially from Suzuki) and how you'd connected them to the Axiom's network.

If you go into the Dashboard app and access the engine data screens there you will get just about everything you would expect. RPMs, gear, temperatures, pressures, fuel burn (if your engine outputs it). You may or may not get tank levels depending on whether or not your tank senders are part of the engine's digital network, or are analog inputs. The actual Yamaha app on Axiom won't show you anything with ECI-100. That app (per Yamaha's requirements) looks for the presence of the 6YG gateway before it will show a full data set.

Is Evinrude an option for the future or will it not happen?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Rob. Most newer Evinrude e-Tec engines support NMEA2000 networking. Evinrude makes a NMEA2000 network cable, their part number 764164, that plugs into the engine's ECU and feeds data directly to the NMEA2000 or SeaTalk NG network. The engine pages on Axiom's Dashboard application can display data from the engines. These pages are pretty full featured and have nice graphics. If you look online you might commonly see that cable listed as being for Lowrance or Simrad, but it is simply a NMEA2000 connection and works with Raymarine and other NMEA2000 compatible display brands too. I don't think we'll see an official Evinrude app like we have for Mercury and Yamaha since they decided to exit the marine space not too long ago. Those apps were developed in partnership with those engine manufacturers.

I got the Axiom to show the data from the engines (Cat 3406E) using the Maretron J2K100 and the Cat connector cable to an NMEA backbone. I'm trying to configure the display to get information similar to what's on the Cat display screens. Are there any templates built into the Axiom that I can use for this, or, if not, can I customize each screen to show multiple dials and numbers with the description above them (eg battery voltage) instead of the linear types of gauges that are shown in the default configuration?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
Hello Paul. The engine dials can be customized to some extent. It is also possible to start with a mostly blank page and program the values you want to see into it. By default, Axiom is going to want to display all 4 engines on one display. If you want to break out each engine to its own individual display, that should be possible by re-assigning the sources for the values programmed into each item shown in the display. This is done by long-pressing the item and editing it to pull from the proper engine. If you need help with this I suggest giving our support center a call, or opening a ticket with our team over at raymarine.custhelp.com.

@Raymarine 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Albert. For most Volvo Penta engine installation you will need to use either a Raymarine ECI-100 universal engine interface module or a Volvo Penta engine gateway to get at the engine information. Either of these devices will plug into the Volvo EVC network and provide a NMEA2000 data stream that connects to Axiom's SeaTalk NG network. Our ECI-100 handbook shows the setup specifically for Volvo systems starting on page 25. raymarine.app.box.com/s/s2bajpvqjoiflgsqzx3o/folder/1787229147 You'll need to locate the Volvo multi-link hub inside your helm. This 6-port helm will normally have an empty port on it that can be used for the engine data gateway device. If you use a Raymarine ECI-100, it will plug into it using a Volvo link cable, part number E70240. The Volvo link cable plugs to the hub, then the other end screws into the ECI-100. The other port on the ECI-100 will use a SeaTalk NG spur cable to plug into the Raymarine network. If you use a Volvo Penta factory engine gateway, it will also have 2 connections. One fits into the multi-link hub, and the other will tie into the Raymarine Seatalk network through a A06075 DeviceNet adapter cable. In both instances, power to the engine gateway is provided by the networks already installed. On your Axiom display you'll set the Engine Manufacturer to Other, and the number of engines to 2. From there, go into Axiom's Dashboard app. The app should pre-set itself for a dual engine display and your data should be visible in the app when the engines are on. If its still giving you trouble please feel free to drop me an email at james.mcgowan@raymarine.com or open a ticket with our support team at raymarine.custhelp.com and I can get our engine team in touch with you.

Hello Richard. If I am looking at the same engine online as you are referring to, that one is challenging, but possible. Those don't have any native digital outputs on them. I am not sure what they even have for analog gauges but if there are any at all, you could use a box like a Noland RS-11, Actisense EMU-1, or Alba Combi unit to convert analog signals to NMEA 2000 digital. Worst case, you could get some very basic information using YachtDevices' Outboard Gateway for Petrol/Gasoline Engines. This engine gateway has a basic coil wire that wraps around a spark plug wire to read the ignition pulses and provide RPM, alternator voltage and engine hours. There are options for it to also read add-on temperature or pressure sensors. You can get the details on it here: www.yachtd.com/products/outboard.html

Does ECI100 comunicate with Volvo Penta 2008 EVC-C electronic control system?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 8 ай бұрын
The ECI-100 is compatible with Volvo EVC-C, EVC-D and EVC-E systems. It should work with your 2008 system too. In most Volvo installations there will be a Volvo Multi-link hub into which the ECI-100 will plug int using a Volvo link cable. We have that cable available under Raymarine part number E70240. Some older Volvo EVC installations don't use the Multi-link hub system, and instead use loom cables to connect devices. For those systems you will need a Volvo Y-Loom splitter cable (E70241) and Volvo link cable (E70240). We have illustrations for how the connections are made, a full compatibility list, and the engine parameters supported all documents in the ECI-100 installation guide, available online here: raymarine.app.box.com/s/s2bajpvqjoiflgsqzx3o/folder/1787229145

@Raymarine
@Raymarine 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Brandon. You'll need a 3rd party gateway device that converts the MAN diesel data stream to NMEA2000 sentences. NMEA2000 is the industry-wide protocol used for marine electronics devices to communicate with each other. There are a few different manufacturers that offer these kinds of devices including Yacht Devices, Maretron and Boning. Here are a few examples of these gateway devices: yachtdevicesus.com/products/engine-gateway-ydeg-04 www.maretron.com/products/j2k100.php www.boening.com/ahd-ap-n2k.html?&L=1 Their gateway will generally plug into the engine's databus, and translate the diesel-specific data to the NMEA2000 protocol. The output of the gateway connects to your boat's SeaTalk NG/NMEA2000 network where Axiom can pick it up and display it. You'll want to reach out to these vendors directly and be prepared with some photos of your MAN engine displays, and perhaps some photos of the connections on the back of them so they can suggest the right plug-in cable adapters to work with their device.

Hello Newton. You will need a Yamaha Command Link NMEA2000 gateway. This is commonly referred to as a "6YG" gateway as that is the first 3 digits of its model number. Your local Yamaha parts dealer can get you one. 6YG-8A2D0-00-00 is the part number. This device will plug into the Command Link hub inside your helm, and provides an NMEA2000 data output. Run a Raymarine A06075 DeviceNet to SeaTalk NG cable from that output into your boat's SeaTalk NG network. On Axiom go to Home...Settings....Boat Details....Engine Manufacturer and select Yamaha. Finally, you'll need to add the Yamaha Command Link app to Axiom's home screen. On the home screen long-press on any tile and select Customize to enter the page editor. Choose a Fullscreen layout, and then in the list of apps touch the Yamaha app. Touch Next....edit the name of the app if desired on the next screen, and touch SAVE. Now, the Yamaha Command Link app will appear on your homescreen and you'll receive data from your engine. The layout you'll see on Axiom will look very much like what you see on your Yamaha 6YC gauge now.

Similarly, older generators could be retrofitted using an analog to digital converter. All of the running parameters can be displayed (pressures, temps, RPMs, etc.) We do support most of the generator-related NMEA2000 PGNs (sentences) too. Most likely you would build out a custom data page in the dashboard to display this information.

Jim, Great Job. A question not on engine data. My quantum 2 radar paints stationary targets 10 degrees to Port. Could i rotate the black puck in the EV1 a few degrees to starboard to solve problem? Thank you, Mike S.
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike. There are a couple of things to check to solve this. First, make sure the radar itself is actually mounted facing straight ahead on its mount. Adjust if you can, or, you can electronically calibrate it in the next step. Second, you'll want to electronically check the radar's bearing alignment. Typically you'll point the boat at a distinct radar target that is some distance away and find it on the radar scope while you are in head-up mode. When the bow of the boat is pointed at the target, the ships heading marker line on the radar scope should pass directly over the target too. You can align the radar image to compensate for any inaccuracy using the Bearing Alignment setting found in the radar's settings menu. Radar App....Menu....Settings.....Installation....Bearing Alignment....and you can dial it in while watching the scope. Once you have done the bearing alignment you can be certain that the bow of the boat and the scanner are aligned properly. Now you can calibrate the compass heading itself. Generally the compass heading being out of alignment is more going to be an issue when running the radar in North Up mode (as the compass is the reference for where North is.) Compass mis-alignment will also throw off the overlay of AIS contacts on the radar scope. When the boat is on a steady course and moving at a fair speed (10 knots or so) in an area with little current, compare the compass heading to the GPS course over ground. They should be within a few degrees of each other. Rather than rotating the EV1 in its mount, its better to calibrate it through your autopilot or MFD. The main factor that impacts its calibration is the boat's magnetic signature (deviation.) Calibrating it allows it to figure out the deviation curve for the boat (it is not constant on all headings) and gives a more accurate readout. A final offset adjustment to the heading value can be made to dial it in too.

I have a yanmar 4JH3-TE in a 2003 sailboat with axiom+ MFD. is there an interface to that engine that will hook into my network to display engine data on the MFD?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Marty. Most Yanmar engines that have any kind of electronic controls, monitor, or display of their own communicate using the J1939 engine data format. Its an automotive-industry CAN bus protocol common on diesel engines. Maretron, Noland Engineering and Yacht Devices all make J1939 to NMEA2000 adapters. Another way to get data is to use the Noland RS11, Actisense EMU-1, or AlbaCombi analog-to-digital converter. These devices tap into the analog signal lines that go to your current Yanmar analog gauges. The analog signals are programmed into the converter, and it outputs NMEA2000 data. These require a bit more setup, but they work quite well.

By older boats, would these solutions to older boats apply to Hino 220 diesels?
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 3 жыл бұрын
From what I can find online it looks like Hino diesels communicate with either the SAE J1708 or J1939 protocols. This makes sense as their marine diesels share architecture with their truck and heavy equipment diesel products. If your diesels have any kind of electronic monitoring its most likely utilizing one of those protocols. Yacht Devices makes adapters for both J1708 and J1939 to NMEA2000. This is an example: www.yachtd.com/products/j1708_gateway.html I recommend dropping them an email with the particulars on your engine and they may be able to provide a mostly plug-in solution. If your motors don't have any electronic monitoring, then something like the Actisense EMU-1, Noland RS11 or Alba-Combi analog-to-digital conversion units would be a solution.

Hi Mark. There are a few manufacturers that offer kits to do exactly that. They integrate with the analog sending units from temp sensors, pressure sensors, etc. You program each channel to tell the system what it is measuring and how best to display it. The box then outputs that data as NMEA2000 digital data that works on many different types of marine displays including Axiom. The EMU-1 is a great option and there are a few more too. Please let us know how it goes for you!

Hello Jim, I have SeaBoss 19´with a Mercury 115hp fuel injected 4-stroke dating back to 2008. Can I integrate my older Raymarine A50D using the same hardware & cables for the Axiom you mentioned in the video? what is the aproximate cost of doing so? Great video, congratulations. Thank you.
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 3 жыл бұрын
Hello German. Thank you for watching our Raymarine Live series! The A50D has a different power cable than Axiom RV so you will need to change that out. The transducer your A50D is using now can be used with Axiom. You can use it as the only transducer, or, you can use it along with an Axion RealVision 3D transducer. If you want to use only your existing transducer you'll need to order transducer adapter cable A80488 ($60 US). This will give you 2 sonar channels on your Axiom, identical to what you have now (50 KHz and 200 kHz at 600-watts of power.) This adapter takes the 25-pin RealVision 3D connection on Axiom down to 7-pins, which your current transducer has. If instead you use transducer adapter A80491 ($110 US) you can utilize both your current transducer as well as an Axiom RealVision 3D transducer. I run this setup on my own boat and love it. This is a Y-Cable adapter that lets you simultaneously connect both a 25-pin RealVision 3D transducer and a 7-pin Airmar 600-watt transducer. You'll have access to 50 kHz at 600-watts, 200 kHz at 600-watts, CHIRP DownVision, CHIRP SideVision and RealVision 3D. It makes for a very powerful setup useful both in shallow and deep water. In this configuration you do lose the 170 to 230 kHz CHIRP channel from Axiom, and, the water temperature reading will come from your OLD transducer and not from the newer Axiom RealVision 3D transducers. The Axiom RV models range in price from $999 (US) for the 7-inch Axiom RV (no transducer included) to $3429.99 for a 12-inch Axiom RV bundle with the RV100 transducer and Navionics charts in-the-box.

Thanks for watching the show! We are working to get that feature implemented ASAP. I am hoping we'll see it very soon. With many other types of data you can choose between multiple sources of the same kind of information. For example if you have 2 GPS receivers you can choose which one feeds your Axiom system in its data source selection menu (Home...Settings....This Display....Data Sources.) Currently, water temperature is not a source that can be selected. Instead, there is some hard-coded hierarchy in the system that forces it to choose from available temperature sources. We know that many anglers have more than one transducer with temperature sensing, so we want to make those sources all identifiable and selectable. Hopefully we'll have more news on this soon.

Hello Palle. A 1987 model engine probably does not have electronic data output, so I think your only option would be one of the analog-to-digital systems. The Actisense EMU-1, AlbaCombi Translate and other similar devices and tap into the analog signal feeds that run to your current instruments, and convert them to digital NMEA2000 data. I am sorry the EV100 did not work with your setup. Were you trying to populate engine data in the Yamaha app, in the Raymarine dashboard app, or both? Similar to what happens with Mercury engines, Yamaha also requires the use of their gateway hardware if you want to use the official Yamaha app on Axiom. The ECI-100 gateway offered by Raymarine will pass basic NMEA2000 engine data and display it in the Raymarine Dashboard application. The engine-manufacturer-specific apps (currently Yamaha and Mercury) won't respond to the ECI-100. They are looking to see their own hardware on the network before they will display data. The advantage of these setups is they can also provide access to extended proprietary engine information, diagnostics, and advanced controls.

@Raymarine
@Raymarine Жыл бұрын
Hello Peter. Our Axiom displays can read engine date in NMEA 2000 format. That is a marine industry standard format that allows many different kinds of marine devices to communicate with each other. Most likely your 1998 Cummins diesels probably do not output NMEA 2000 information natively, but don't worry. There are aftermarket options available that can help. Many marine diesels natively communicate using an automotive standard called J1939. If your engines have any kind of electronics instruments or controls currently, they are most likely J1939 devices. A vendor called Yacht Devices offers an engine gateway device and plug-in wiring harness that can read J1939 information and translate it to NMEA 2000 for display on marine network devices like Axiom. I suggest getting in touch first with Yacht Devices and let them know exactly what motors you have and they can suggest the proper gateway device and wiring harness adapter. You can find them here: yachtdevicesus.com/collections/engine-gateways Once you have the engine gateway installed, its as simple as plugging it into the boat's SeaTalk NG or NMEA 2000 network, and then doing some basic setup on Axiom's boat details menu. There you will tell Axiom how many motors your boat has. Engine date will be displayed in Axiom's Dashboard application.

Hello Pedro. I recommend using the Yamaha 6YG gateway for this. By using that gateway you'll be able to see data in both the Yamaha app, and in Axiom's dashboard app. If you use the ECI-100 for this, and not the 6YG, you'll only have access to data in the Dashboard app and not in the official Yamaha app. You will not need the E70242 cable or the ECI-100 for your installation. The Yamaha 6YG comes with the correct connector to plug into your Command Link hub, and it also has a NMEA2000 DeviceNet connection. Use Raymarine A06075 Device Net to SeaTalk NG to make the connection between 6YG and your Raymarine SeaTalk NG network. The Yamaha app on Axiom should come to life as soon as that connection is made.

There are two different cables from the engine that give engine data, one public network NMEA 200 cable that only shares the boat's gear (F, N, R), and battery volt output. The private data cable from the engine is the STNG (6 pin) male ended data cable, and this private data gives RPM and detailed fuel flow data and other stuff. Obviously I want to be able to display this private engine data on my axiom, as well as still leaving the little Evinrude gauge intact to read the data as well for other important water pressure data and other information that may not come across on my axiom... Hey Jim. Thanks for the great show! Any info on integration of a Beta 50 with Axiom? Thanks!
@Raymarine
@Raymarine 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter. I see online that Beta Marine has partnered with Actisense to make NMEA2000 engine data available to MFDs like Axiom through a NMEA2000 module accessory. The Actisense EMU-1 is being used in-line to convert the analog gauge signals to NMEA2000 digital. It is tapped into the lines between the motor and the monitoring panel. It appears to work with either their C or CW-series engine display panel. There is some detail on the bottom of this page: betamarine.co.uk/seagoing-control-panels-3k/ I also see some entries on this interface module in the Beta Marine "Mid Engine Range" catalog. Your Beta 50 is part of that range, and from the description it looks like your engine uses the C-Series engine display panel. I suspect the EMU-1 could be made to work with other engines and panels in their lineup as well as it is directly reading the analog signals off the engine's sensors and converting them to NMEA2000. You'd need to figure out the wiring and configuration of the EMU-1 though to get it all setup. I have not seen it for myself, but I imagine the advantage of getting it from Beta Marine as a kit is that it probably seamlessly plugs into the control panel's wiring harness without too much fuss, and is mostly pre-programmed. Once that module is installed you'll simply run a NMEA2000 to Seatalk NG network cable (A06075) from the module to an empty spur connection (white) in your SeaTalk NG network. Axiom should detect it right away and begin showing data in the Dashboard app. If you haven't already done so you'll want to go to the Boat Details tab in the main setup menu and tell Axiom how many engines you have. It uses that to pre-populate the engine display page appropriately.

@Raymarine 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Eric. I am not 100% certain about your motor just because of its age. From what i have read online, Yamaha did not add CommandLink and NMEA2000 data capability until their 2005 model year. If that is the case we would be able to make use of Axiom's built-in Yamaha app. It might be possible to get engine data through another method, though that becomes a bit more of a project depending on how it is done. If there is any electronic data at all available from your Yamaha motors, it might correlate to one of the automotive, industrial or diesel-based engine data protocols like J1939 or J1708. Companies like Yacht Devices make adapters that can work with many of those systems. If your boat is fitted out with a bunch of analog gauges, its also possible to use a device like a Noland RS-11, Alba Combi, or Actisense EMU-100 to read the analog signals going to each instrument and convert them to NMEA2000 digital. This is not a plug-and-play solution, and often the reward for doing so is not worth the effort involved in doing it. Another way to do it, probably the simplest of all, but also with the most basic data, is to use something like this Outboard Motor Gateway from Yacht Devices. It can pick up engine RPM by sensing the pulses on a spark plug wire, and converting them to NMEA2000 data that your Axiom could read. www.yachtd.com/products/outboard.html

Hello Dana. We'll need to know a bit more about your boat to give you a full answer. What year are your engines, and what gauge package, if any, is included with them? Are your existing gauges electronic or analog? Some Cummins engine systems, marketed along with MerCruiser, are compatible with the Mercury Marine SmartCraft system. If your engines fall into that category you could use a SmartCraft NMEA 2000 gateway to access your engine data. Many of the newer Cummins engines are compatible with a new system they offer called C Command Connect. Depending on what level of C Command your boat has, some of them have a built-in NMEA 2000 gateway that you can plug into to access engine data. Not every C Command has it though. This Cummins web page explains it a bit: www.cummins.com/engines/c-command-connect Feel free to email me more information at james.mcgowan@raymarine.com and I can try to point you in the right direction to get started. If you can take a few photos of your helm and your current engine gauges, those can be helpful for identifying what you have now. If there are any Cummins modules or boxes visible in your engine room, snap a photo of those too. Your local Cummins engine dealer should also be able to advise you on what is needed specifically for your engine setup. Once you get the NMEA 2000 data output setup, connecting to to the Raymarine network is very easy. Your Raymarine displays receive NMEA 2000 data and engine information is displayed in Axiom's Dashboard app. If you haven't done so already there is a short engine configuration menu in Axiom's Boat Details menu (Home...Settings...Boat Details) where you specify how many engines you have.

Hello Boris. Element can display data from Mercury engines when connected using NMEA2000. Element does not have the same built-in VesselView app that Axiom has, so you will be viewing the data on Element's engine dashboard pages instead of in a dedicated Mercury VesselView app. If you already have a VesselView instrument on your boat, it may have an NMEA2000 network connection on it. Many of the newer ones do. You would connect it to the SeaTalk NG backbone using a DeviceNet to SeaTalk NG adapter cable, part number A06075. Your Element display would also need to be plugged into the SeaTalk NG backbone using another A06075 cable. If you don't already have the SeaTalk NG network installed and running we offer a starter kit, part number T70134. If your VesselView display does not have a NMEA2000 connection then you would need to order a Mercury SmartCraft NMEA2000 gateway accessory from your local Mercury dealer. It plugs into the SmartCraft network and creates a data output for a 3rd party device like Element. Be advised though that this is going to be expensive, for little return if you already have a VesselView display on your helm anyway.

Hello Ramón. Axiom reads engine data in the industry-standard NMEA 2000 format. Most Caterpillar marine diesels support a protocol called J1939 which is similar, and can be converted to NMEA 2000 using an engine gateway device. Raymarine's ECI-100 Engine Interface Converter supports conversion of Caterpillar J1939 information. In order to use the ECI-100 with your CAT engine, the engine installation must already have a CAT Marine Power Display (MPD.) That is the electronic display from Caterpillar that displays engine information. There are a few versions of the MPD including a color version, monochrome version and a mini version. When that display is present, that means the engine itself is wired for electronic instrumentation and monitoring. Engines without an MPD are not compatible because they don't have the necessary factory wiring harness present to support electronic gauges. You will need 1 ECI-100 (E70227) and 1 Caterpillar 12-pin Link cable (E70305) per engine. I strongly encourage you to take a look at our ECI-100 handbook which has a section specifically on CAT engines, before you purchase anything. That handbook is available on Raymarine.com here: raymarine.app.box.com/s/rvhycb6x1brzo64921k5tsqwv2ica3j6/folder/1787229145 The CAT3196 is a popular engine that has been in production for a long time, so there are lots of them out there with and without the necessary wiring harness installed. Definitely do your homework before you start purchasing components to be sure you have the right items onboard to start. Feel free to email me photos of your current installation and CAT displays if you need help. james.mcgowan@raymarine.com.

I think you might want to look at one of the engine gateway options from Fox Marine: fox-marine.com/ I believe that generation of Mercruiser used the Marine Electronic Fuel Injection (MEFI) system and they likely have a gateway device that will work with your motor's electronic control unit. Axiom can communicate with Volvo Penta engines and display engine parameters in its Dashboard application. You can use the Raymarine ECI-100 Engine Interface, or, you can also use the Volvo Penta Easy Connect interface kit to provide the NMEA 2000 data stream to Axiom. The Easy Connect interface is a relatively new Volvo accessory that also has some Smartphone integration in addition to providing the NMEA 2000 interface. You can learn more about it here: www.volvopenta.com/en-us/marine/accessories/easy-connect/ If you use the Raymarine ECI-100 instead, you can check out the installation guide for it here: It contains illustrations for how the connections are made, a full compatibility list, and the engine parameters supported: raymarine.app.box.com/s/s2bajpvqjoiflgsqzx3o/folder/1787229145
