for someone like me who doesn't game at a desk but in a bed in front of a 55inch TV this it very good idea! lugging a big ass black widow around is a pain and gets kind of in the way and most games beside like mmorpg would easy manage with 20 keys. a mouse like key board you can operate with out taking anymore space then the size of your hand is a nice feature. portability and small is a big plus feature for me that I think most people forget when looking at the aspects of this.

The question you should ask yourself is: "Why should I use a regular keyboard if I can use a special keypad for gaming?" I mean that regular keyboard was not designed for games, it is a legacy, a grandchild of a typewriter. I hope that more and more gamers will use specialized equipment. This market is just starting to evolve in the right direction.

I'd get this for portable gaming. Laptop keyboards suck and bringing a full sized one just isn't practical. This seems to be a good compromise.

The "best" is entirely subjective. The only way you can determine what type of switches you will like is by trying them out. Personally, I like Cherry MX Blue for typing and MX Red for gaming. I originally thought I would hate red, but I've tried them, and I've grown to like them. If you've never tried a mechanical keyboard before, I recommend MX blue, because it's a good in-between for typing and gaming, and is most likely the least expensive.

This is not ''for gaming only'', I use my Nostromo for work such as adobe programs and the shortcuts and programmable macros are incredible inside those programs and save me a lot of time.

Nice review. Interesting tidbit on your view regarding the console to pc transition, as that describes me. I'll probably play more rpgs and leave my fps on console and from my old days playing korean mmos, I remember always hating the layout of mykeyboard and how awkward it was to use skills( I havent played one(or anything on pc for that matter) in years so it could have just been my small, child hands). The price is hefty, but I think I could shell out 100 (+/- 10%) for something to use in multiple games. People spend that sort of money on arcade sticks that can only really be used in one(two) genre(sidescrollers too I guess). Once again, thanks!

I liked your review. As you said some kind of games like shooters don't benefit as much as RPG, as for example WOW. For me is very very very useful to have this thumb pad, so I can easily set each direction to Ctrl, Shift, Alt,... When you use a normal keyboard your thumb is just used to jump. This way I have more fingers free to cast more spells.

All my synapse settings are on my hdd. I disconnected from the cloud since that communication was causing so much jitter in my games. Obviously, they won't be available for me if I happen to sign in to someone elses synapse with my naga but doubtful I'll need to do that anyway! Lol. I shudder at the mention of macros though. To my clan, it's like saying bomb in an airport! XD Oh, and I've heard that desktop work such as digital editing and photoshop (same thing right lol) and whatever is enhanced using something like the Orbweaver. That's what I heard anyway.

Hey I wanted to know if you could use this keypad for basic game functions and spell bindings, hot keys, etc. Because I believe I would actually benefit from this if you can bind any of these keys for in game functions. SO, please let me know, because I would do well with having a product like this. I mean I understand that you said you can change bindings from your videos. ps I love counterstrike go I was thinking of this game when looking into getting a pad. But I too have a qfr with blues and browns, and I also have a leopold fc660c topre switch keyboard which is a bit more comfortable and compact that the Quickfire. Well, let me know what you think

Surely the point of this peripheral is to use the 8-direction joystick for more fluid movement as akin to a console controller? Clearly the way you use WASD you don't need that function but I'm guessing many buy this for that purpose.
