the Minilite is also a copy though of the original Compomotive ML-series. they are though not made anymore and have not been for eons and are not road legal as they are made of composites. This is why i love the US. i V8 swapped a 4cyl Foxbody and paid hella cheap insurance. Did the same with a v6 Firebird, and swapped turbo and awd in an Eclipse. All they do here is check that the VIN on the title matches the VIN on the dash. Built not bought ftw!
@jaydunbar75386 жыл бұрын
Keegan Johnson problem is then if you wreck it they also won't pay for the mods, they will only pay for that cheap 4cyl. Unless your only keeping liability anyway then it doesn't matter.

Gemini's don't really cost that much, that guy has a super low km factory original Sandpiper (which was just a model variant really, nothing particularly special about it), and even then he's kidding himself that he'll get that much for it. It's worth, like, 15 grand tops. Hell, the guy who built the CDT homologation cars for racing is selling his personal TG model, it has loads of mods and is a 100% unique car (only one was ever built) and he's only asking 18 grand. There's quite a few other Geminis for sale, all for well under 10 grand.

As a German this all seems fairly standard to me. For some reason the people doing the legal stuff try to throw as many stones as they can right in front of your feet (or was it wheels? :D) or they just outright forbid the use of your vehicle on public streets. The import rules might be a little softer though, I never checked.

Might be a dumb question, but you know a bunch of welders and machinists. You have the spacers and wheels, why couldn't you weld those spacers to the inside of the wheels and then turn the welds back on a lathe? Seems like a super easy fix. Doesn't really affect functionality, and it's definitely safer than just using spacers. Could even repaint after the work and they'd look factory. If the wheels are steel and the spacers are aluminum, what's stopping you from having steel spacers made up and doing the same? You'd have them in a few days and you can still switch to your custom jobs when they show up in January.

The process to get a car rego'd in Australia is austounding to go through. In Canada you can just import a car, basically get the tires aligned and assuming everything is in working order get a safety, then after that is done you could literally swap a ferrari engine in, put 1 foot wheel spacers on it and never have to get it checked ever again unless it was in an accident.
@tehDmez6 жыл бұрын
Depending on the state I guess. Places like Cali are usually pretty shit to import a car to.
@SoggyCardboard556 жыл бұрын
Yeah to get it registered in New South Wales your car needs to be inspected to get a blue slip (piece of paper saying it is safe and Roadworthy), then you need to pay for compulsory third party insurance (compensates people who are injured or killed by your vehicle) and then you line up for hours at the RMS to pay for rego. It's super expensive too (can be up to $1000 AUD)
@comethiburs23266 жыл бұрын
aint that bad. registering in belgium/france goes from 2 to 5K depending on how modified the car is. they can even ask for road tests.

My state, Missouri, in our county, a car has to pass a basic safety inspection, plus have at least liability insurance and property taxes paid to license a car. In Iowa, our next state up, NO safety inspection is required, as long as it has four wheels and a engine, they are like, sure! We'll get you plates in a jiffy! I worked in a garage as a tech, and some of the cars I saw come in, well, let's just say I have seen better and safer cars in the junk yard.
@Incurafy6 жыл бұрын
And that's why we have strict safety laws in Australia. Sure, it might be easier to get an absolute piece of shit registered in other parts of the world, but do you really want to be doing 100 down the high way with one of those next to you? The people who call our laws bullshit wouldn't say the same if a wreck killed one of their family members because the car shouldn't have been on the road.

catfish552 yes they should put a 4g63 engine in 2sexy, As these engines are capable and reliable, plus with a good exhaust setup it sounds rather meaty.

Can you post the model file for the speaker mount?? Honestly I'd would love to use them when restoring a Datsun. I'm sure plenty of others would too! Edit: and the head unit cover. It looks really slick.

Well here is the interest they asked for! If they went open source it would be perfect since anyone could have it 3d printed anytime. If they do plan on selling it then I'd like to know where.

frankly you could of uploaded the full 2 hours of sitting there... and we'd sit there and watch . cause you guys are that awesome !!
@TheFootbaldd6 жыл бұрын
Not sure If you are referring to my comment; however, What I mean was that you could skip the headunit all together. Get a 2x4 or 8 DSP module, and you could use a front end for example a Raspberry pi with an off shelf TI dac (if analog DSP, otherwise I2S into the DAC). You could put that all behind the stock faceplate with simple power and volume control. Use AD hoc WIFI for remote operation without any display from your phone. With a configuration like that it would look stock, skip the debate-ably poor performing bluetooth, and have a kick ass DSP with programmable cascaded FIR filters and time alignment.... Not to mention bi-amping and impedance matched amp-speakers. Btw I really like the build. One day I might get into a Z. Keep up the good work.

Why is it such a ball ache registering cars in America and Australia?! I'll never complain about cars in the uk ever again! We got it easy!
@GraxCat6 жыл бұрын
America is only like half as bad as the UK when it comes to registering cars though. In states like florida anything with 4 wheels can be registered. Im hoping more states take that approach, cause seriously, fuck red tape
@nekoroms6 жыл бұрын
Here you basically cannot mod a car at all..only small stuff like wheels and tires and bodykits..if you increase power then it becomes a true pain

Parts of America are ridiculously lax. I drive my spec miata race car on the street sometimes, insured and registered as a stock miata lol it has a full cage, straight pipe, harnesses, fire system, etc

I'd reckon that One problem kept him from getting it registered. Seemed like The Day That Never Comes. Oh well, at least The Memory Remains.
@jeepsterdaddy376 жыл бұрын
Why don't you just use the wheels that are on it now to get it registered and after its legal put the wheels that came on it from Japan with the spacers. I doubt cops will pull you over to check for spacers. Or am I wrong about that?
@andersjjensen6 жыл бұрын
The problem with that is that if they get in an accident the insurance company can rightfully deny coverage because the car is illegally modified.
@NathanSGuitar946 жыл бұрын
That and hundreds of thousands of people will know it's running spacers, not a wise thing to do when MCM is one of KZbins biggest motoring channels

What if you welded the spacers onto the wheel? Therefore making them into the wheel
@comethiburs23266 жыл бұрын
the load on the bearings would still be wrong. add the risk of breaking the studs, the fact that insurance WILL say fuck off if they see them on your wreck... i'd say get a proper offset, or custom, one piece extended floating brake rotors.
@Iain2406 жыл бұрын
That's actually not a bad idea at all. The welds wouldn't be structural but technically they wouldn't be spacers any more. As far as I know modifying your wheels is allowed.

Thanks! I feel your pain and your joy. I once cut a sunroof hole in a fibreglass kit car so I could send the panel off for testing, to make sure it exceeded Marine Standards. Then I got a Rebodied Vehicle Certificate, which is easy to say, and my daily driver was the only VW/Explorer ever registered in Queensland. I drove The World's Coolest Car (IMHO) for years, then moved to NSW and couldn't just transfer the rego, so I parked it in a paddock, partly because it was properly dangerous to drive.
